Similar background myself and I have had my share of second bests. I learned very quickly, hit the biggest really hard and the others will usually back down. Does not always work though and have ended up in hospital myself a couple of times.

As for killing we've had this question before and I would kill to protect my family.

To answer the main question, yes, I'm former military.

The first case, my training would kick in and they would not attack anyone again.

The second case, my female companion asked that I not kill the asshole, begged actually. I honored her wishes. Not sure whether he was ever able to have sex again though.

Yeah, I could. The majority of the time I would try to disarm the situation to keep things safe until police arrived. However, if I feel there's no way around it, I'll kill the person without hesitation.

If a person were to kill someone I truly cared about (especially my wife), it would take constant restraining from someone else to keep me from hunting the bastard down and killing him myself. The jail time would be worth it.

 

That said, I did come close once.
A fight started by this drunk punk for no real reason. I thought I was going to die, so I fought like I never fought before.

I somehow managed to get behind him with in a chokehold with my knees wrapped around his ribs and ankles locked.
He was thrashing hard, but I just squeezed the bjesus out of him.

The look of horror on this punk's buddy's face as he shrieked "He's turning blue. He's turning blue." Funny thing, that guy was just standing around as I was choking his friend.

I let go. The guy just lay there, puking and gagging. As I just stood over a guy bigger than me, I remember, he looked so fragile.

Yeah it wasn't fun. I don't know what I would've done had I not seen that look of horror in the buddy's face.

This was back in 1995 in another country. Never been in a fight since.

The majority of people who answered yes to this question are full of shit. Maybe a handful of people, including KevinFlynn could actually do it. The others are grossly overestimating themselves though.

Every douche likes to think he can kill somebody, like he's some kind of primal, dangerous alpha male. It's all a major part of being a douche, thinking you're capable of more than you're really capable of.

The few people who can actually kill somebody, excluding military service, probably know better at this point and probably have a better handle on how to hold back and control themselves than every douche pretending he's some dangerous guy.
