I know little about either. I have an iPad. Two, actually. I read ebooks on them. I also use them to vist this site and surf the web in general. I get my email. I take pictures. I shoot movies. I program my DVR when I'm away from the house. I read USA Today. When I see bad weather I pull up radar maps and determine if I really need to take cover. I look up major league baseball scores and standings. When I go golfing, I have a golf course GPS app to help me. I have a calendar with appointment reminders. I can communicate with my daughter who has an iPhone 4 through FaceTime and do video chat. I can listen to my library of songs and watch video on YouTube. Watching a slideshow of photos is nice. I can play games on here too. I only have a few dozen apps out of 300,000 that have been developed.

Did I mention that I love my iPads mine are equipped with 3G so I can do this stuff here in my house, at the Dr. office or out on a boat.

I have a Kindle... Sort of a late Christmas present from my wife even though I was not particularly keen on getting one she said "I needed one" what when I have a book in hand everywhere we go..

Interface- Pretty easy I think a brain damaged lab mouse could manage it. The controls are cumbersome and take some getting used to.

Support- Oddly this is probably the best thing about the kindle.

Issues- it apparently only comes in black and white so no lookie at porn on a kindle it just doesn't work. in fact trying to look at anything other than e-books is really kind of annoying... but if you would like to handcuff your daughter to a more morally restrictive device... this would be the one. That's not to say that there isn't plenty of smut in print... you just can't peruse smutty pictures and vids. actually the software is pretty limited which allows you to do only a very few things.

 

I'm still enjoying my Sony Reader. The problem is that almost all of these little devices only are able to read files from their own outlet: Amazon for the Kindle, iTunes for the iPod 4G Touch.

Speaking of the iPod Touch - an absolutely perfect display - as well it should be for $300. The Sony Reader can and will accept Word files as well as the ebooks from the Sony store and from Project Gutenberg and runs about $100.

Advantages and disadvantages on all, but I have not regretted the Sony.

Lolita, in the novel, was 12-years-old. When the movie was made (in 1962) it was decided that 12 was FAR too young and pretty, teenaged Sue Lyon played Lolita. In the remake, 12-year-old Dominique Swain played Lolita. The movie was FAR too hot to find a U.S. distributor and was only available on home video. I saw it. They did "everything" but showed nothing.

 

I saw the 12-yr-old Dominique Swain film a few years back on Showtime. Even though they didn't show anything, it really turned me on...And NO...I did not go out and rape or molest any young girls!

Lolita plot...
In 1947, Humbert Humbert (Jeremy Irons), a European professor of French literature, travels to the United States to take a teaching position in New Hampshire. He rents a room in the home of widow Charlotte Haze (Melanie Griffith), largely because he sees her adolescent daughter Dolores (Dominique Swain), also called "Lo", while touring the house. Obsessed from boyhood with girls of this age (whom he calls "nymphets"), partly because of an early sexual experience and tragic loss, Humbert marries Charlotte for the sake of access to her daughter.
Charlotte is killed when she is struck by a car moments after she discovers his preference for her daughter. Lo also reveals to Humbert the name of his nemesis, Quilty, whom he hunts down and murders. After being chased by the police, Humbert is soon arrested and sent to prison. Here's a question for any readers out there. I've ordered a Kindle and expect it to arrive in time to go on holiday. In the past Anais Nin has been recomended as a good erotic author, but I don't know where to start; does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should read first? The idea that I can be reading erotica without anyone knowing really appeals to me

Lubrican (formerly Beating Off Bob) writes stories (many, many, many) that are more romantic than pure sex. The sex scenes are well written and (dare I say it?) tasteful.

I'm personally upset with him because he has not posted any new stories recently, but he says that he is deeply involved readying some of his stories for the Amazon market.

Kindle

Cija, I just LOVE my kindle. Got it several months ago and enjoy reading everywhere without the hassle of printed matter. Mine just has the wi-fi, but with it I can view what is avaliable on Amazon and even D/L the first chapter of something to see if I'm interested enough to read/purchase it.

I have found that the prices for some old, classic stuff is quite high ($5-10) but have seen some things for 99 cents too. Doing a search online for certain titles, I've found lots of stuff for D/L via torrents- things that would probably be like the Anais Nin stuff. So far, I'm working on going through some classic erotica like:

Fanny Hill
My Secret Life
Romance of Lust
Venus in Furs

Classics! I'm still looking to find Autobiography of a Flea - one that I snuck read so many years ago. <grin>

There's a LOT of .mobi format stuff for the Kindle. I also found a program where I can convert other formats to the .mobi format.

I gotta thank Don for his input when I was looking to get mine. And I'm glad I got it, even though it wasn't the Sony like his. I'm sure you'll like yours. If you want some tips or info on anything, PM me.

I've given serious thought to converting my stories to .mobi format also, but my subject matter probably wouldn't pass the censors at Amazon or any other public seller. I may just do it for the fun of it (yeah I'm a geek) and make them available on my own website sometime. I've got a nice following on another site that doesn't censor subject matter.

Just as a note- because of the change in policy, and other very frustrating things, I'm no longer posting any of my stuff here. I decided also that since my subject matter isn't welcome here that there is no reason for me to enter any of the writing competitions either. I have correspondences with many of my readers on the other site, so I don't feel that it's worth my time to contribute to a site where my writing is not welcome.

I would have just removed this site from my bookmarks if it weren't for the wonderful friends I've made on this forum. Like Don, ejls, Jack, DC and many others. So I continue to peek in regularly on the forum to see what's happening. I mentioned in other postings long ago that this site would start losing contributors by attrition due to admin's lack of concern and the new censorship policy, and that it would snowball. I've seen it happen on other sites where the admins made choices that make the members feel unwelcome. Well, I feel unwelcome here and will not post my work. Hopefully, the admins can make their money on the porn vids side and keep the site going, but I won't be a contributor to their efforts. I know it's no great loss to them, but it's another flake added to the snowball.

When the mods and admins can piss off someone as genuinely nice and thoughtful as Donb, you KNOW they've made a mistake.

Woo hoo got my Kindle! I LOVE it! It did take me a while to realise where the charge indicator was. Now I'd better be careful not to bankrupt myself buying books. Do I buy a few before I go on holiday, or try to find a wifi network when I'm there?

 

By all means try to be prepared. If your luck is anything like mine there will be no wifi available.
