I have to disagree - a real writer will take the time to proof their work, after using spellcheck. The others (who I don't consider writers) just don't give a rats ass.

I may be showing my age, but it takes me forever to figure out what my daughter means when she sends me a text. It's hard to believe she's an A-student in English Lit.

Why the same old spelling the same old way every time? Try something new, you might experience life that way.

 

We each have our own way of expression. I speak well, but my writing skills are not as great. The best way to grow is to make a mistake. If not knowing how or when to correct the mistake then spelling is the least of your worries.

 

It's the importance of caring. The odd mistake is fine, "Hey gurl I LOVE ur titss wanna chat???!!!!?!" is deleted.

As for artistic license, the rule seems to be that you're allowed to break the rules once you understand them. For example, when i don't capitalize singular first person pronouns, i'm doing so with understanding and intent, not ignorance.

 

Practice does make perfect, bettin' you don't need much practice.

I keep Dictionary.com as a button on my browser. If I'm the least uncertain of spelling or a meaning, I look it up.

My grammar has worsened in the last 10 years, I partly blame the tens of thousands of posts I have read on the Net. A negative osmosis of a sort.

 

It's not spelling per se, but the use of words that sound alike. e.g. where, wear, weir; there, their, they're.
However, bad spelling can destroy the story line, and the line of thought the author is trying to convey. Also, most bad spellers have other problems when trying to get an idea across, b.c. they don't know how to use the language correctly. Or how to paragraph, comma, semi-colon, colon, or use any other punctuation.
