Not European myself, Colombian in fact, and in this country we're quite uptight about it too. I guess it has to do with the religious background of our society and the fact that we're an uderdeveloped country.

I think in general the European countries are much more open about sex than the rest of the world. The difference in culture between them and the USA goes back to our puritan roots. Sex has always been a taboo subject to be kept behind closed doors. I'm not saying the US population isn't hypocritical about just that it puts forth a good face.

No I've always been fascinated by the Latin culture in Central and South America. There is a very strong Catholic influence on everyday life, including government in many countries. The female is considered subservient and looked up as a saintly mother. There is an expectation of purity still. Yet it is still the norm for a man to have a mistress and not suffer any social stigma.

 

sex is not a taboo here in europe, even in portugal (where i´m at), spain, or italy that have a major catholic "presence".

Portugal is a country that just 36 years ago lived under fascism (with all the cultural ostracism envolved), and just this year legalized gay marriage. my generation, that grew up after the revolution, is performing a few changes of oppinion in this country, letting things to B open and discussed, and the previous generations (our parents, grandparents), are mostly acompanying that process.

yep, sex is something U can almost discuss with grandma at christmas dinner

althouth we have nudist beaches since i can remenber as a kid there is still some reluctance towards things like... for example, swinging.

it´s not the sex eden some people in other regions migth think, but, yes, i believe there isn´t much hipocrisy around here

 

Interesting I must say the least. When we had the campground we at first were taken aback by the European casualness, but after meeting many we both felt more natural around them. Instead of what I would call now, an uppity attitude, when the Europeans came into the store we both felt more at ease in our conversations with them as the subject of sex isn’t stopped by language barriers.

 

I'm English but live in France. I've had 6 English partners, one Polish partner and two French partners. There seem to be no differences here between the people I've slept with in the sense that 2 or 3 dates and we're in bed having fun. But from other forums on the internet I get the impression that people from the US are very uptight about sex and young people in particular seem to spend a hell of a long time 'dating' and 'hanging out' (whatever that is) before getting down the business - and even then so many of them seem very stressed about the whole business.

The sex is the same when we all get down to it, it seems the the USA citizens are more concerned about love?

 

pretty much laid back about most things in aus... including sex... well most of the people i know are anyway

 

In the Netherlands, we're quite open about it. The younger generations, that is. Elder people and religious fanatics are not (or less so).

 

No country can be more uptight than India. Here its like sex doesn't exist and still we have an exploding population.STORK??

 

lol.... just because a couple enjoys "non conventional" sex in their relationship doesnt mean that they do not love each other.
