Do you think that person with mental illness will have sex drive? If so, how they get satisfied?

I think that the type and severity of the illness would be a huge factor.

I have been out with a few girls that I would now class as insane but their sex drive seemed to be pretty good, obviously their medication was working during the appropriate time.

You may have friends with mental illnesses that act so normal you don't even realize it. So many different levels and types.

I've been on some meds that complete destroyed my sex drive. I work with my doctors to come up with a solution that helps me mentally and physically. What is the sense to be mentally sound if you can't enjoy it? It goes towards the quality of life. They have also made strides in medications to prevent weight gain from the meds. This is also a factor to the quality of life. I have been at this for a long time. I am a on a regiment of meds that keep me relatively sane and physically functioning. The fact that I can answer this question with such clarity should give you my sincerity towards this.

There are a lot of folks out here that have so many issues that sex becomes a lowered priority on their list of things to do for the day due to the mental health issues. With the help of trained professionals and a healthy dose of proper meds, most folks can regain their sexual appetite.

there are people with a huge sex drive that are mentally ill.
there are laws in place that protect them. some schizo-affective people
have a huge sex drive. but, they can come out of it without warning.

i had several patients' that were like that. one was an asian woman, who
would talk about wanting to have an ORGASM out loud in the emergency room. they had to sedate her, do to her offending the other patients
( including children ) who were in the E.R. being seen as well.

another lady, was there for a psych evaluation, for her sexual ordeal.
MASTURBATION. she was a school ( high school ) teacher who was caught
by another faculty member for MASTURBATING in school. not sure where she was when she was caught. but, that's what her paperwork said.

she was well kept up, 40 y.o. at the time, singled mother and had a
condo. in a very nice area. i had care of her temporarily, until we
transferred over to the psych staff. she told me she was very horny

and she couldn't get enough sex. she wanted lots of sex. she had no
STD's at all. other than this need for lots of sex. she even expose herself
to me too. she had a very nice body from head to toe.

5'7' . i wanted to fuck her. but, i have to watch myself. being in these types of situations can get you fired or jail. you don't really know the whole history in these situations.

plus, it's unethical and professional to getting involved with a patient(s).

I saw a person who met with an accident and got some parts of his brain removed... He cannot recognize people (even his own parents/brothers) but can dress, eat etc. His speech is troubled, you wont understand what he wants to say. I was wondering what happens to his sex life. This is why I ask this question... Pity him

 

It's tragic

 

I lived with a woman who suffered with a mental illness. It was also untreated. As she simply refused to seek help. So she had a lot of difficulties living on her own. She was 44 yrs old and still living at home when we met. Her mom had passed away and her dad was ill and in a nursing facility. But her father was still paying the property tax, utilities, etc. Her siblings lived in CA, so we had the house to ourselves.

But I literally had to negotiate my way through so many obstacles, before I could get sexual with her. Her condition simply didn't allow her to act like a normal person would, and it definitely lowered desire for sex. So it took a while to win her trust, let alone a sexual relationship.

But it was two of the best years of my life. As she did become affectionate and even enjoyed the sex. She was the first woman I shacked up with and that makes what we had special.

 

Of course they have normal sexual feelings.
Some meds such as anti depressants do lower sex drive.
There are so many forms and variations of illness.
Some cant control their moods, some cannot maintain relationships.
Some would do harmful things without meds.
Some may be quite normal if they are on their medications.

One guy I grew up with did get involved with a woman with mental illness.
He did not really notice at first. She seemed to be a bit of diminished capacity but otherwixe seemed normal.
He got her pregnant and that made his life complicated afterwards. Hence it became a regretable experience.

 

In my situation, she also had very low self esteem as a result of her condition. "In women this causes them to feel insecure about their bodies, feel less desirable, doubtful about their sexual confidence, and insecure about participating in sexual activities.”

This was definitely true with us. Which is why it so long before things got sexual. "Depression and/or high levels of anxiety, often override sensations of pleasure in women. The emotional toll of negative thinking and low self-esteem worsen sexual dysfunction, as most women may experience no interest in sexual activities."

 

It seems to me there are some mentally stable people that don't have a strong sex drive. My sister was mentally ill and was quite promiscuous. I see this as two separate things with many variables since we all have different natural chemicals, hormones etc. And as was mentioned, there are so many different types of mental illness.

 

I've know some women who suffered from severe depression and had off the charts sex drives.
I have no training in that field but I suspect the same chemical imbalances that cause some mental illness can increase or decrease the sex drive.
I say that because the women I've known who had mental illness and a high sex drive seem to have lost that drive once they were under medication.

 

My wife is paranoid schizophrenic and her sex drive went from very active now has no sex in just 2.5 years. She now has absolutely no interest in sex at all.

 

I had a fling with a woman who had some issues that weren't being adequately addressed, and her sex drive was off the charts. In fact, that was part of the problem - she wouldn't take her meds because they completely killed her sex drive and ability to orgasm. And having seen how much she enjoyed sex, I have to admit I might make the same choice.

 

Forgive me. But I'd like to post this song as a tribute to my two year relationship with a woman who struggled with a mental disorder. This song is so eerily similar to what happened. These lyrics could literally have been written by me. As it so vividly describes what I was feeling after the relationship came to an abrupt end. (No she didn't die or anything bad like that.)
