  2. Hello,

You can now get verified on forum.

The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

I need to be able to recognize you in that picture. You need to have some pictures of your self in your gallery so I can compare that picture.

Please note that verification is completely optional and it won't give you any extra features or access. You will have a check mark (as I have now, if you want to look) and verification will only mean that you are who you say you are.

You may not use a fake pictures for verification. If you try to verify your account with a fake picture or someone else picture, or just spam me with fake pictures, you will get Banned!

The pictures that you will send me for verification won't be public

    Best regards,

    not really krieg
    i dont think so

they don´t care how much you pratice

they care about how you act and how you deal with your enviroment
they meditate, yes, but the pratice of your actions is what it counts for future reactions of others that deal with you

i had a beatufull book on this ... but i lend it ... and never saw it again :(

Buddhism is not a religion it's a way of life.

who said i plan on giving that up?

P.S that fat monk is actually Budhi from China not Siddhartha Gautama Buddha originally from Nepal who started the movement. a common misconception.

How about you kiss my shiny red ass?

Just kidding. Peace and love and all that jazz.

Religion is a way of life.

I have a lot of respect for Buddhism. But in some parts of the world Buddhism is as Christianity is to us. It's religion and is used to encourage superstitious practice. . . a kind of pre-conventional way of 'thinking'.

But I have studied Buddhist (and other spiritual) teachings since I was about 15. And I like to meditate with them at my local centre.

But why restrict yourself to one particular philosophy? Why not broaden your exposure and forge your own unique way.

What have you read of Buddhism?

Why does Buddhism appeal to you?

    How do you practice it?

I love the concept that we all have a seed of goodness within ourselves that we should learn to nurture, rather than the Christian concept of Original sin - it doesn't matter how good we are, we are all paying for the sin of Adam and Eve. What a negative basis for existance :(

What I like about Buddhism is that it allows you nay, it encourages you to do just that. It's more of a guideline than a doctrine. Gautama Buddha himself said:

“Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.”

In truth it's a very realistic philosophy. The 4 Noble Truths are just that, very true and quite simplistic if you really consider them.

    1. Life means suffering.
To live means to suffer, because the human nature is not perfect and neither is the world we live in.

    2. The origin of suffering is attachment.
The origin of suffering is attachment to transient things and the ignorance thereof. Transient things do not only include the physical objects that surround us, but also ideas, and -in a greater sense- all objects of our perception. Ignorance is the lack of understanding of how our mind is attached to impermanent things. The reasons for suffering are desire, passion, ardour, pursuit of wealth and prestige, striving for fame and popularity, or in short: craving and clinging. Because the objects of our attachment are transient, their loss is inevitable, thus suffering will necessarily follow. Objects of attachment also include the idea of a "self" which is a delusion, because there is no abiding self. What we call "self" is just an imagined entity, and we are merely a part of the ceaseless becoming of the universe.

    3. The cessation of suffering is attainable.
The cessation of suffering can be attained through nirodha. Nirodha means the unmaking of sensual craving and conceptual attachment.

    4. The path to the cessation of suffering.
There is a path to the end of suffering - a gradual path of self-improvement, which is described more detailed in the Eightfold Path.(which I won't get into now)

I see what you did there. :excited:

i'm in the process of reading up as much as I can gather. I plan to meet with a friend of a friend who practices it soon to have some person to person discussion.

It appeals to me because it makes sense and stimulates intellectuality

I'm quite new to the philosophy so I'm working out just how exactly, to practice it. I can tell you now that I do NOT plan on becoming a monk.

I assume, then Inc, that you will stop prozelytising about the truth of evolutionary theory? That is, after all, one of your great hobby horses, yet you cannot have experienced the proof yourself, directly.

Your books and your articles are nothing more than 'the authority of your teachers and your elders'.

And, really, I cannot see you 'unmaking sensual craving'.
