I once dated a black woman...she happened to be light skinned but it didn't matter to me how light or dark her skin was. She resembled Halle Berry and the sex was always very hot & steamy, we're still good friends.

 

i think in the UK, the older generations dont like it, say i came home with a black girl or saomeone like that, my mum and dad would be like 'hey!' but my grandparents would be like, why is he with her. There not rasist but it just they way they was brought up and the way they was told.

I say if you find something inside your partner that you like you should keep going with it. After grazing through these responses they seem to pretty much all say the same thing, so i'm going to divert a little bit.

the fact of the matter is a lot of people do mind, or you wouldn’t have to ask. As far as partners go I’m pretty open; pink is pink. But as far as a serious relationship or when I plan to have kids, I’d be really reluctant (I expect the bad responses it’s cool.) Reason being I’m most comfortable within my own culture and can best raise a child without the baggage and confrontations that will undoubtedly arise from a multi-ethnic upbringing. The idea of everyone “eventually being the same” is great and all, but I’m not going to cure cancer, and I’m not going to end war, I don’t even vote. So I’ll stick the realm of my life and direct influences when making my decisions. I’d give my kids the smaller sphere of “same right now” to live in.

As for SC, one of my best friends lives there (old military buddy,) and I know it is an issue there. I can’t speak for the black perspective (I’m sure you can,) but I know I heard more than once guys there explicitly saying they didn’t want anything to do with a girl that sleeps with black guys. Additionally, I had to listen to shit for days when I tried to bang a black girl there.

Yeah it would be nice if this wasn’t a concern, and I’ll prob get hit with happy feely hate comments. But if I asked a serious question, I’d want people to tell me the truth not want what they thought they are supposed to say or what they think I want to hear. I’m not saying don’t do it. I am saying you know there will be extra tribulations.

Don't fret my man. I'm your everyday, casual, white, country boy from West "By God" Virginia of all places, and my girlfriend is half Black half German. We are greatly in love and are engaged to be married, quite soon actually. I'm not from the deep south such as yourself, but alot of the people here have the same ideas as other southerners about what is "right" when it comes to interacial dating. Those times are FAR behind us. If I catch a weird look from someone when I'm with my girlfriend, (and I get it from black men just as much as white) I just look at it as jealousy of my happyness "outside of the box", so to speak. Just do you and thats all anyone can ever ask for.

I find the whole woman of my dreams notion as over-romanticized ideals brought on by movies and fairy tales. I think a lot of different people could potentially make me happy. I’m not one to pine over the one who got away. If however it were possible to have an absolutely perfect person for me, she wouldn’t bring that kind of baggage to the table.

You, being of mixed race, can most certainly attest first hand to the complications that arise from this situation better than I. I in no way wish you weren’t here, but that’s completely a philosophical idea that could be argued: someone else is now not here because you are, or you’d simply be in a different shell, or any number of similar ideas.

Point I’m trying to make: I don’t think it’s cowardly at all. I think it’s thinking objectively to maximize happiness. I didn’t say I wouldn’t consider it, I simply said I’d be reluctant.

 

I wonder why people are so obsessed about the one thing in thier life they had absoutly no control over. The phrase "Pride in color" never made sense to me. Why be proud of something you had nothing to do with, try being proud of something we have accomplished for ourselves instead of worrying about what our fathers, grand fathers and so on has done.In short people that worry about the color of a persons skin are shallow or not smart enough to concer yourself with.
I know white women that only date black guys and i tell then it is just as wrong to dismiss a guy based on color, there is a word for that it is prejudice (to pre judge).
However i also know you can't help what you are attracted to but to only date people of a specific race is still limiting your options based on something so trivial as the color of a persons skin.
By the way i lived in the south most of my life and some do have a problem but not near as much as in the past so keep in mind these kind of changes will never happen over night, give it time. As long as you two are cool with it who cares.
Also my wife has had a few black boyfriends over the years. When we would go out to clubs it was the black women that would give her looks too, basicly saying bitch what are you doing here.
