if they are of legal age then leave them alone. if they are under age then i think something should be said.

 

both are under age ( 15 /12 ) & yes we had words......not screaming shouting words....but controlled calm words.......but how do ya get through to em ????

But my impulse is certainly to talk to them (hopefully calmly) about the dangers involved. Ask them, for example, if they really want their words or pictures sent to everyone at their school.

I got one question for all the parents reading this post, and i am judging u. I have no kids and no intention, and im not trolling. I am a gamer, and play 18+ games and hate to see 12 yr olds playing and servers making rules like no swearing "for the kids". well they shouldnt be playing, and as I see it, if i was 12 my parents wouldn't let me have something like an I-Phone to sext on cause its not age appropriate, my question is why do u think they should have an I-Phone each? You havent heard on the news enough about pediphiles or something???? what the hell people, hey here's an idea take the fucking phones away till they are 18, their little 12 yr old friends dont need to get ahold of them that bad they need anything more than a basic cell phone. The reason they beg and bitch for one of these things is so they can do shit behind the parent's back with more "privacy" but they dont know the whole world can get that shit.

 

Sexting is just the new generation way of flirting. Nothing changes just the technology.

In the 50's they said Rock & Roll was gonna ruin the youth.

In the 60's and 70's and 80's they said TV was going to ruin the youth

In the 90's with the rise of the internet same thing was said.

2000's up just more access to technology

What did we all do when we were young? By the time I was 5 I was already flirting and having a good time time with classmates even though i was inexperienced. before my teen years I had already seen and done a lot with women.

So with that said, you can't bullshit me or anyone especially the law makers and government who think that you have to be 18 to do anything. Its stupid. What did we do in the old days. we found the old mans magazines, videotapes, or hell one night at a friends you just went exploring.

It is a natural progression, it is human nature. The only thing we or anyone can do is just warn them about the dangers, to use protection. After that back the fuck off, there's not a damn thing more you can truly do.

btw..if either of them are sending nude photos.. you need to get rid of the phones NOW.. **they can be charged with distrubution of child pornography...and whoever they are sending it to..can be charged with possession of child pornography. Serious charges for little kids who's parents are too effing lazy to watch their own kids instead of giving them a device to keep them occupied.

If they are under age I would explain the potential dangers. You never know where things sent on the internet will wind up.

 

My kid has a cell phone and it's a basic one. it can make phone calls and you can text. the texts are closely monitered by me. i do random checks on any texts and haven't found anything that even mentioned sex. If there is anything that is not appropriate then there will consequences.
The big problem is a lot of parents want to be their kids "friend".

 

Because WE didn't have a cellphone at 12 is no reason for them to not have one. I'd remove privileges of having one, but in this day and age...not having a cell phone is the same thing as not having a TV in the living room. Thier cheap, easily available, and if you don't get them one YOU can monitor, they'll just get themselves one.
And wtf with not being around adults? at 12? my god...by 12 I was doing my own thing most of the day and checking in with my parents. Going over to friends and then going out to the park, or over to the pool, or to the mall. I for damn sure wasn't hanging around at home with parents. Much less 15. And I wasn't raised by horrible parents, I love them very much and I know they love me. Over protecting your child is just as bad as neglecting them. Not every person in the world is a pedo, teach your children, not keep them locked up in the house.

They need a way to contact home, and if you don't have a cell phone, you're screwed. The payphones have been removed from most towns, the old "Quarter in a shoe" is a thing of the past.

Anyway, I'd explain what could happen...if it happened again I'd remove privileges somewhere, I'm sure you know the drill, games, tv, phone in the house, bedroom.

 

I don't think there's anything wrong with a teenager having a cell phone. What if they're somewhere without access to a landline and need to call like 911 or something?

 

I think it depends of how you look at it...

For some of us, the idea of NOT having a phone for the kid is the best solution...

Me, for example, I have bought a mobile for my son since he was 7 years old...

Both my wife and me were "awfully" busy and going in various places.

The teachers in school knew our mobile phone numbers, that's right, but we still considered useful to give our son a mobile phone.

Maybe our decision has "endangered" him, but, fortunately, nothing wrong / bad happened.

Maybe we weren't the best parents around the world, but we also haven't been the worst - it can be seen when someone meets our son...

Personally, I consider it also depends on the "material".

If the kid is good, or bad...

I've seen kids who, no matter what, are just "trouble" - you practically cannot deal with that - I've seen and talked with some unfortunate parents...

+1 , but you can't say WON'T ..that all depends on their family structure and how well they listen to their parents. ya i'm sure you all will say KIDS NEVER LISTEN..it may seem that way sometimes , but in the end they could.

Most Cell providers let you access picturemail online. ALL media sent thru texts is saved. U can tell them that anyone that works there..can access them and send them over internet. Scare tactics work sometimes..if they don't believe...go log in and show them.

Education and Being honest and open IS THE KEY!! the more you don't talk about it , or tell them DONT DO IT ...they more they'll want to do it and be less informed. This is new milenium..TALK TO YOUR KIDS before their friends or TV do

 

Personally, I don't think removing a teen's access to the technology is likely to have much positive impact. When I was 15, nobody had cell phones, nobody had laptops, but we sure knew how to give blowjobs and have sex with each other. Kids will find a way.

The best thing you can do for a teen is to educate her long before she gets there, keep lines of communication open, and ultimately, to trust her to make sane decisions.

 

I do feel for you BUT, you should remember that now adays employers look up the potential hire on the net and face book and the rest of the social media stuff that is out there. This could (in the future) damage their way to get good jobs.

Just my thoughts, the kids today have it hard enough they do not need any more problems.
