  2. Hello,

You can now get verified on forum.

The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

I need to be able to recognize you in that picture. You need to have some pictures of your self in your gallery so I can compare that picture.

Please note that verification is completely optional and it won't give you any extra features or access. You will have a check mark (as I have now, if you want to look) and verification will only mean that you are who you say you are.

You may not use a fake pictures for verification. If you try to verify your account with a fake picture or someone else picture, or just spam me with fake pictures, you will get Banned!

The pictures that you will send me for verification won't be public

    Best regards,

    StanleyOG.

Removing a book from a 6th grade reading list is not the same as banning it. I think this issue might be a tad overstated. Call me when they yank it out of the library and book stores and burn the thing.

That being said, I find every form of censorship obscene.

ah, and conservatives get the knickers in a knot when misguided liberals complain about Twain's language. I guess stupid exists on both sides of the political divide.

Most Southern states are aghast at the thought of Mormons, I can not believe that they actually listened to a complaint from them.

But as OT said the book was removed from a 6th grade reading list, it was not banned.

If they can then the newer generations will NEVER learn anything of great value because as you pointed out, most of the greats have experimented at some point with these substances.

wasn't there a movement in the seventies that supported forcing everyone to do LSD? I've never done research on it, but i've heard about it during tv documentaries and it was talked about in "Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas" (which i never did read the last two chapters off xd)

There is a lot of prejudice against Mormons already. I don't see why it's such a big deal to use one of the many other Sherlock Holmes books.

I actually think I support them taking it off the reading list. The author wrote tons of short stories, I'm sure they can find one that is fine.

This would seem to me to be the best response.....but also I see more twisted religious people forcing their idea-s down someone else-s throat....
It happens so often you would think I'd be used to it by now .... it pisses me off actually.

I moved away from Va. for just such reasons. I lived across the river from D.C., and there were way to many underemployed lawyers. And folks were way to likely to sue for good or worthless reasons. People there were willing to blame everything on others. We(they) still had blue laws through the 70's. I really do not like people telling me what I can and cannot read, listen to, watch, or buy.

This is too much! Some people have too much time on their hands, or want to play the `big shot'. First the ban, then the burn?

You name it and somebody out there is offended by it. It is typical Christian hypocrisy, by their standards the bible should be banned(violence, incest, etc). It makes absolutely no sense to keep children in the dark about the realities of life unless of course one wants them to grow up to be ignorant and narrow minded. Why not instead have a discussion about the book and talk to them about the evils of prejudice?

yeah banning books is like banning thoughts, and controlling the way we think and controlling our voice, hey wait isn't there a constitution or some thingy that protects that? nah i'm probably wrong..

The Constitution forbids the government from outlawing a book.

This book hasn't been outlawed. One particular group has decided not to use it. No law says that they have to use it, and certainly the Constitution does not.

These books weren't written for children in the first place so no loss to the long-dead author.

But this is a bit ridiculous. It was written in 1886. I highly doubt it could portray mormonism anywhere near the way dumbed-down shows like South Park do.

The sale of books and other forms of media are outlawed all the time in the US when they are deemed obscene.

Which this isn't. It's an omission on my part, which doesn't affect the specific case here.
