This is emergency contraception for her to use if she has had unprotected sex or if a condom breaks. It is not to be relied upon all the time. Then she needs to get on birth control pills or some other kind of hormonal birth control (patch, shot, etc.). Planned Parenthood is a good place to go. They can give her information on all the options available and help her decide what's best for her. Fees are on a sliding scale based on income. They have been around for 100 years. Preventing unplanned pregnancies is their life's work. Use condoms until she has been on the knew birth control for a full menstrual cycle OR WHATEVER THE DOCTOR TELLS HER. Condoms are certainly better than nothing for birth control, but they are only about 85% effective, vs. 99% for birth control pills and IUD's. Though you are each other's one and only lover, that will not likely be the case forever. It would be a good idea to start using condoms anyway, because in this day and age, it is the only disease prevention we have. 20% of the population has genital herpes in the U.S. and 50% will get HPV (some strains cause cervical and other cancers). There are plenty of other STI's. She should look into getting the vaccine for HPV (Gardasil) if she hasn't already. You can also get this vaccine and it will protect you from genital warts and anal cancer. If you live outside the U.S., she should go to a clinic as soon as possible ( and I mean in tomorrow if possible, not in two weeks) and let them know she had unprotected sex so that she can get whatever kind of emergency birth control is available in your country. You'll enjoy sex a lot more if you don't have to worry about unplanned pregnancies and diseases. Be responsible. If you aren't ready to use birth control and condoms, you aren't ready for sex.
