I can honestly see both sides. I was a 30 yr smoker who gave it up 10 yrs ago. I can understand not wanting smokers standing right outside a building as you pass through. I do not understand why people are not allow to smoke outside in the middle of nowhere. If they are made to move for the nonsmokers, then then nonsmokers should be civil enough to walk around them. It's legal, people. It may not be healthy, but neither is drinking. There's enough of that going on and people aren't in any hurry to close down bars.

 

I wouldn't know what Amsterdam is like as I have never been there.

So what was it like when you were last there ?

Well was it 30ft from people or just the building? It might be to prevent smokers from gatering at every exit and overhang so people aren't forced to breathe it every time they come and go, or go out to take a breath of fresh air.

And automobile pollution is nothing compaired to tobacco-smoke.

 

Which do you think is healthier? Standing 30ft from me while I chain smoke for an hour or standing next to a busy highway for an hour?

I'm not from England, but the accusation that England is responsibe for pollution from an American is fairly laughable.
And first of all maybe you should read what I said before attacking. True, the constitution doesn't directly grant the right to smoke, but it wouldn't be too far of a stretch to say that for the federal government to deny that liberty would be a breach of the eighth amendment, which militates against cruel and unusual punishment.
Secondly, there's a real irony to you accusing me of knowing nothing about the Constitution when you make the claim that the right to smoke doesnt exist because it isn't explicitly mentioned. The key reason why the Constitution has survived so long and still carries so much weight is because it's flexible and non-specific. The fact that you claim that people have no right to smoke because it isn't guaranteed in so many words in a 200-year-old document, a document that to this day includes the guideline that a slave is worth 3/5 of a person, demonstrates an opaque ignorance on your part and is evidence of just how deep into the bottom of the barrel you have to scrape in order to garner any piece of information to support your claim.
To summarise - fuck you, fascist.

Sylv and myself have been to Amsterdam a few times and, in our view, has areas a lot worse than San Fransisco..

We felt safer walking around San Fransisco, at 2am, than we did in Amsterdam...

Edgy is your own viewpoint and perception, so what we would call edgy others may not..UNTIL you have been to a place, YOU can NOT pass judgement on how that place compares to anywhere else...
