2. Hello,

You can now get verified on forum.

The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

I need to be able to recognize you in that picture. You need to have some pictures of your self in your gallery so I can compare that picture.

Please note that verification is completely optional and it won't give you any extra features or access. You will have a check mark (as I have now, if you want to look) and verification will only mean that you are who you say you are.

You may not use a fake pictures for verification. If you try to verify your account with a fake picture or someone else picture, or just spam me with fake pictures, you will get Banned!

The pictures that you will send me for verification won't be public

Why do socks feel the need to 'troll' when their trolling skills equal that of a chimpanzee with downs syndrome?

Now time for my real question:

Do you feel that the M4/M16 platform is reliable in the harsh sandy and rocky environment of Afghanistan or maneuverable enough in close urban combat? Does it have enough kinetic energy (ass behind the round) to put a threat down and keep them down, or do you feel that the 5.56 round is lacking in that capability?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the .30 caliber round. It has been well proven for over a hundred years. The issue with firing multiple shots in a "sniping" senario (I assume we're talking about shots taken from 400 - 1600 meters) is muzzle climb. Every gun has it. Remember that when the round is fired, tht gas has to go somewhere, even with the .22 rifle. Now firing a .30 caliber round is going to make the muzzle jump, and even it is only 1/8 inch off from your point of aim, multiply 1/8 inch x the distance to your target and the shooter will miss the target completely. The .30 is a great round for grazing and suppressive fire though.

I think the M4/M16 weapon system is a great weapon for combat. Would I like to have a bigger bullet launched from it? HELL YES, but I'll play the cards I was dealt, so to speak. Eugene Stoner was pretty dang close to on the money when he came up with this design. We have tweeked and toyed with his original design very little in the last 60 years. As we know, the average Soldier is supposed to be capable of engaging targets out to 300 meters. After that, the bullet starts to get affected by gravity and it starts to run out of gas.

The M4 is a versitile and agile weapon. It's good for fighting house to house and is ready in an instant to go outside and shoot down the street. Today's modern 5.56 ammo (whether it's M855, M193, or any other variant) is A LOT more reliable than it's kin of the 1960s and 70s. And lets just keep in mind that shot placement when engaging the enemy is absolutely critical and a CNS shot will stop any combatant dead in their tracks, so to speak.

USA Buys Enough Guns in 3 Months to Outfit the Entire Chinese and Indian Army

Law abiding US citizens bought on average 3,177,256 guns every 3 months in 2008
(AmmoLand.com).

In just 3 months Americans bought enough guns to outfit the entire Chinese and Indian armies combined.

You also bought 1,529,635,000 rounds of ammunition in just the month of December 2008.

"You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass."
- attributed to Isoroku Yamamoto, Fleet Admiral and Commander-in-Chief of the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) during World War II

My question:

Is Admiral Yamamoto right?

Did the Japanese invade the US mainland?

As long as he thought he was right, that's all we needed to convey.

I think you really blew this one and might have exposed yourself as a fraud.

I'm now soldier but I've been shooting 30 calibers for close to 60 years and that bullet starts dropping the second it comes out the barrel and I've never experienced or even fucking heard of muzzle climb.

I didn't know that you are now a soldier, Stumbles.

However, I am not an experienced rifleman like you are, but I have heard of muzzle climb, it was just a topic on the Military Channel and how they are fitting muzzle brakes on some M-16's to counteract it.

So I looked it up and found this:

http://guns.wikia.com/wiki/Muzzle_climb

As far as the trajectory of the round, when firing a weapon the most green novice knows that you must aim above your target to compensate for gravity. There is a point where you can not aim high enough to overcome gravity if the distance to the target is too great for the load and the round. I do believe that is what the true "real soldier" was talkiing about.

Ten guy nailed it. Nicely done sir.

I think stumbler got confused by realsoldier's explanation though. It was a little weird to read but if you look over it again its an over simplified explanation of muzzle climb in automatic weapons, or semi auto weapons fired rapidly. The only reason bolt action rifles don't have extreme muzzle climb is because of any muzzle brakes (military rifles) or a very slow fire rate. The rifle still recoils, its one of those immutable laws of physics but it doesn't climb like say an M240 light machine gun fired off hand, unsupported.

Pay no attention to the dolt stumbler. As ALWAYS, he is running his mouth about something he knows nothing about.

The only thing stumbler knows how to do is spam up a thread with his stupidity.

Re bullet drop :Ballistic coefficient, range, muzzle velocity, wind etc have a lot to do with whether a trajectory is flat, drops or is parabolic.

Re muzzle jump :This contractor takes down targets at 800m in semi auto with no muzzle jump issues:

Re .30 Cal :Stoner's AR10 (7.62mm) was modified to by a couple of guys to 5.56mm (thus called the AR15) at the behest of the US military,Armalite later sold the AR15 rights to Colt.Colt produced several variants, the CAR15,the Colt Commando,XM177 etc (the principle mod being the forward assist) and the US military adopted the M16 labelling and a futher dozen or so variants ensued....yada yada M4 etc.

Re sniping and muzzle climb: First of all the "multiply 1/8 inch x the distance to your target" where did that come from...Felix's bag of tricks? Snipers do not rapid fire to the extent where a follow through shot sequence is affected by muzzle climb.

You might want to re-read the "real soldiers" initial post on the subject, with particular mind to this little snippet:
To me, this is where he points out that multiple shots are not the norm in a sniping situation AND that muzzle climb is one reason for that. What I hate to see, is a guy who comes in here with apparently good credentials and he gets sniped by others who are only wannabes or attention whores.
