I often wonder about the guys and girls who work in the Porn industry as its a huge business and I wonder if they make a decent living from it which I sincerely hope they do..

Naturally some will be more successful than others but I would be interested to hear from any Porn professionals if they have made a good living from all their efforts or if anyone here has any knowledge of the industry..I'm not asking for specifics about their earnings but as its a short career I hope they make a good few hundred thousands and set themselves up for when the day comes and everything heads south and the phone stops ringing.

Now before anyone gets the wrong idea I am not looking at getting into porn..I am just interested..I'm not the performing in front of an entire film crew type..I know thats dull of me..

Call me old fashioned..

So any thoughts or experiences please share.

I know women make a ton if they are popular and even have their own videos/websites. But men on the other hand don't make nearly anything only the most popular ones make great money but even then its nothing compared to women. I saw a website once that showed the incomes of most well-known porn stars I forgot what it was though.

 

I agree with zx132--gals make much more than the guys. Many use their porn careers to boost their careers as dancers as that's where they can make a fortune. Also, the successful ones always have their own brand of dildos, vibes, pussy replicas, etc. I read an interview with one male star who does gay films because that's where the money is, even though he is straight. I used to go to a site that had lots of porn reiews and they had a huge list of all the porn stars who had died--lots of suicides and AIDS. It's not as glamorous a life as many think.

Decent living? It depends upon your definition of the word decent. A few hundred thousand is a gross underestimate, this is piece work. Your pay depends upon how active you are.

 

Guys make jack shit. Women can make some ok money. Unless of course you become a big name, then you make some decent $$$

 

There aren't too many who are able to make a lot of money at it for a long time. Generally their careers are short lived. The women get paid more than the men and generally if a guy wants to make a living in porn he will have to do gay porn, even if it's just "gay for pay." The females also have their own websites and get income from private appearances.

People like Nina Hartley and Ron Jeremy that have been in porn for decades are rare. Either people get tired of watching them or the stars get tired of fucking for a living. Some former porn stars get behind the camera and start directing like Candida Royalle.

Actress Traci Lords started in porn when she was 16 (with a fake ID) and made 80 to 100 x-rated films before she was busted for being underaged. She actually only made one legal porn film when she was 18. All the ones she made as a minor were taken off the shelves and destroyed. she was shunned by the porn industry for costing them so much money in lost revenue. Then she studied acting and is fairly successful in mainstream films and TV.

I recently read that Bree Olson is trying to make it as a legit actress. She hasn't made a porn film in a year and is taking acting lessons. However, since there are over 200 films she's starred in that are readily available, I think she's going to have a tougher time that Traci Lords being accepted in Hollywood. Acting is a fiercely competitive business and there are plenty of pretty young blonds in L.A. that don't carry the porn baggage that Bree has.

Women it all depends on what they'll do for money, once signed they can average 2000 to 3000 a video hour. I'm not sure you're right about that. There's a certain novelty appeal associated with having someone in your movie who has made her living fucking on camera. I think that's why Traci Lords has been cast in a few movies...because I can't imagine anyone was that impressed by her acting skills. The producers/directors probably just thought that some people would go see the movie just to see her. The same is true of Sasha Grey, and I'll bet it will be true of Bree Olsen. She'll benefit, at least a little bit, from her own notoriety...and the fact that she was one of Charlie's angels.

 

does anyone know much about how female porn stars do when they are done making porn? I occasionally see stories where teachers are fired for making a porn movie 20 years ago. I would think it sticks with you for life and may make it hard to keep a regular job later on.
