CAW 12 VOTING

Here's how voting works:

1. In order to officially vote, you have to send a PM (private message) to CAW SOP.

2. In the message, you may list up to three stories to receive votes from you. You need to indicate which one gets your first place vote, second place vote, and third place vote, like this:

1. This story's name
2. That story's name
3. This other story's name

If you do not indicate by number, but you list three in a row, I will assign your vote just like above. If I cannot discern, I will send you one PM. If you respond, good. If you respond and I still don't know, tough, your vote will NOT be counted. This isn't rocket science.

3. A first place vote is worth 5 points. A second place vote is worth 3 points. A third place vote is worth 1 point.

4. You do NOT have to vote for three stories. You can vote for two or one. If you vote for two, I will assign 5 points to the first story, and 3 to the second. If you vote for one story, I will assign 5 points to that story.

5. Voting ends on September 2nd at Noon. I will post the results as soon thereafter as I can.

6. I will be personally vetting each voter who has less than 100 posts in the forum. If I feel that there is any attempt to manipulate votes, I may disallow a vote. If I think sock voting is taking place, I will consult with staff to assist in further determination. If sock voting takes place, I may disqualify the story. Please play nicely.

Anyone wishing to know, I had a very hard time narrowing the stories to even three; this is one of the best CAWs I have seen and marvel at the stories we have, the next one will probably be immense as well.

Anyhow:

My votes went as follows, the first and second being so close that over the last two days, I had to reread the stories multiple times to finally decide which to which.

Dizzy with "The Wall" comes in first here.
WantSomeFun with "Lori" is in a wire tight second.
ELP with "Tristane of Eloise" breathing down their necks for third.

My guess is that, as in the last CAW, you can reveal your votes here AND PM the CAW SOP OR you can keep your votes anonymous. This will give us some idea of how the voting is going but we really won't know until the winners are revealed at the exciting finish. It would be neat if they announced the third place winner first and then the second place winner an hour later and then the first place winner an hour after that.

If I am reading the message correctly, the only votes which will count will be those sent by PM. This does not preclude, however, making your decisions known in this thread.

Commenting here WILL let the authors know how many are actually participating and I will say that my vote has already been cast. Like Snow said, this competition was very tough to judge for me due to the quality of the submissions.

I agree this time it was really hard for me to pick a clear winner. As I said before everyone in this CAW deserved to win. I was having a very hard time picking my winner in the first place then Horse snuck us a peek at the voting letting on that we could choose three.

At that Point I thought getting to pick three would be a little easier but in this case it wasn't. It still meant eliminating 6 other stories aside from mine(which I never vote for). I read and re-read them all changing my mind everytime I started to re-read the next one again.

In the end one stood out, more only because I lived a summer like was described in the story, it was the summer of my first real true love and the one girl I regret the most losing. She's married with two girls now and I wish my story would've had the same happy ending as the one in "Loni" but alas it wasn't meant to be.

My second and third place pics were due to both writing and story itself. Again it was really hard to pick and I apologize to those who were left off my top three it wasn't because I found you lacking. These CAWs are getting so much better as before I was a member I would read them and awe at the stories put fourth then, and I now find it an honour to be writing among you.

I felt that the entries were so good this time I can't as of yet think of what I might possibly write about next time. I put a lot of my heart into this last one and my creative mind feels wiped out right now. Does anyone else go through that?

Dizzy, you asked if anyone else goes through that? Yes. I hope my brain recovers enough for the next CAW challenge.

ALL of the stories on this CAW are exceptional (mind you I do not count my own in that, as I wrote it) and the works show how many true masters of masters we have in the forum; both those who read and write, and those who critique them as well. I could only have imagined if we would have had twenty or more such stories to select from; I have no idea how I would be able to do so.

Just remember, watch out for our beautiful Siren of the Sea; or you may wind up being lunch with the fishies. (ejls - its meant to be a joke:excited:; as based on your story I imagine you would have more creative endings for us all.)

 

While there is nothing prohibiting you from sharing/posting your vit(s), I will not do so. My reason is simple. I don't want my vote to potentially influence someone else's vote, and it COULD happen.

I may PM the people that I vote for to privately congratulate them, but there should be some suspense and if everyone posts who they voted for, well, there will be no suspense.

Just food for thought.

 

Your right Horse that would take the suspence out of it. But luckily I'm sure that not everyone will. In every contest we had those who shout out their choices and those like yourself who don't. I always figure for everyone of us who post our choices there are lots were not seeing so I never assume to have any idea of were things are which keeps the suspence for me.

 

Alright I read a couple more I know I have about one more week left before I cast my vote but with the few that I have read this is going to be one tough challenge. Great work again from great writers. Good luck to you all!

This means I have to choose! I'm not sure that choosing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd will be any easier than having only one vote! Not with the field of entries we have this time, anyway. :wall::wall::wall::wall::wall:

 

Is it only me?

When I went to vote, I found that I had to re-read the first few paragraphs from each story to refresh my memory as to what each story was about and how the story made me feel.

Then I had to make a cheat sheet for my top three entries.

Good Luck to all the writers.... This is my first time reading & voting. I was extremely impressed with the level of talented writers this forum has. I also appreciated the differing ways some of you took the challenge.

 

My vote actually went to the three stories which stayed in my mind the most. I have a nasty habit of re-reading stories even after I have put the book away and those were the three which got my vote this time around. I will say that the one which I voted best was not the one that I most enjoyed, either.

 

Voting Update:

I can report that 5 votes have been cast, and 7 of the 10 stories have received votes so far.

I just want to make a plea to all the readers. In most of the CAW's there seems to be only 50 or 60 votes cast. Out of hundreds, or thousands of readers, why so few care to cast their votes? I know only logged in members can vote, but we have more than that logged in. This ends up being the same main group of writers and friends all supporting each other. Nice, but where are all the devoted readers? They did not vote. Please. All of you that have never voted, log on to CAW SOP and cast your vote. I know there are more reders out there. Support the hard work that these talented writers have put in. Don't make this a "Good Ol' Boys (or Girls) Club. Just my view point. I love all the stories. Even the ones that don't win. Thank you writers.

 

These clubs you speak of are simply the end result of writers doing their part to campaign for votes. If everyone promoted their work on this site and attracted new readers, we'd have a decent sized pool to determine our winners.

 

This is the exact opposite of my views.

We write the stories for the contest. That's it. If members want to read them then that's fine and if the organizer and others want to promote the event then that's fine too but we are contestants, our stories are there to be read ( if someone wants to) and considered the one against the other.

 

I agree, I write stories that I hope people will enjoy, I'm looking for readers not so much to vote for my stories as to give me feedback to become a better writer.

I write stories and talk on the forum to people but I don't do anything to promote my work over anyone elses. From my point of view there are no "Clubs" here, it's an open forum and we writers like to talk to one another.

As there is no prize to be won in the CAW except maybe some self confidence in our own writing it doesn't do us any good to try to sway votes, I find it better to promote the event not the contestants.

On that note I say again good luck to everyone for the amazing work done in this contest and I can't wait to see who wins!

 

My reference to the Good ol' Boys club was not meant derogatory. I was refering to the fine people who are on here in support of each other. I was hoping to get more readers to respond to their work. As this IS a contest, it does matter how many votes come in. Yes its possible to have a contest with only the ten writers voting, but what good is that. True most write for the joy of writing. But it adds to the enjoyment when others respond with favorable comments, and give feedback. How would you like to be an actor in a movie that no one watched? Is it really just for the love of acting without the fans? I was just trying to get more fans involved. I hope these comments are taken as encouragement and not start into another debate as so many other forums get into.
