Well, I worked at a film festival for a few years and I've attended a few around the country. Generally, they only want films that haven't shown in their region before, so the filmmaker is shooting himself in the foot by traveling around the US and screening it, IF he wanted festival exposure and the possibility of festival awards. Distributors go to festivals looking for films to pick up, so he's cutting his chances on that happening as well. As for the Oscars, there are very specific rules for entering films and one is that they have to have a commercial screening for a week in Los Angeles and Manhattan. It cannot be shown on cable first. There are other rules too. So if he doesn't follow the rules it doesn't matter how good it is, he can't submit it to the Oscars.

 

There is nothing wrong with hiring illegal immigrants or educating them as well as providing medical services to them.

 

What part of the word "illegal" don't you understand?

 

England has a large influx of illegal workers that help with fruit and vegetable picking. This is basically because most English workers, regardless of being unemployed, will not do this type of labour.

So what is a fruit or vegetable farmer supposed to do? Should he hire illegals that will do the job, so he can get the produce off the fields and to the customers. Or should he insist on hiring legal workers, but watch his crop rot in the fields and lose valueable income.

The fruit and vegetable farms around Kent and The Vale of Evesham are good examples of this dilemma.

 

Basically that goes on with a lot of agrarian regions within the United States as well. Why hire someone that demands higher pay but won't work half as hard as someone willing to work harder for half the pay. It's a situation that has existed for quite some time.
I don't necessarily agree with many immigration laws, but I do understand why they're necessary.

 

There is a LOT wrong with hiring illegal immigrants and providing them with non emergency health care.

We are a nation; that means something, but only if we control who can cross our borders and live here.
Your idea of "open borders" essentially says you place no value on this nation.

Providing health care-- and for that matter free education and a laundry list of other benefits costs us a lot of money, which is the point of this thread.

It also greatly trivializes the effort legal immigrants put out to come here and become citizens. If you talk to just about any legal immigrant, they feel more strongly about illegal immigration than so called citizens; if they had their way, we'd run them back across the border at the point of a gun.

I'm all for legal immigration; come, bring your language, your food, your culture........share with us, join us!

But if you come illegally, I say get your ass back across the border, get in line, and do it right.

 

first off megagifs you must be either an illegal or want to be illegal to believe that its ok to hire illegal workers at any level that is why we issue work visas and allow migrant worker permits

illegals cost millions from our economy every year and will continue to do so until those that provide income and care for them are stopped

i own a beef ranch, a restruant, a gun shop, and we board/ train/ and sell horses without using 1 immigrant worker
and we are profitable because my workers have money to buy what they need which supports the local economy and gives people in town the funds to expand and spend more

Since white men "Illegally Immigrated" (I.E. the Indians preferred that they not come to America) that makes illegal immigration now acceptable, and anyone opposing it a hypocrite?

 

actually, the point I'm trying to make is that more than a couple of the people on here (and a whole lot elsewhere in the 'real world') who are screaming about the "evil effects" that illegal immigrants are having are hypocrites, because that's how their ancestors got here. are we clear?

My ancestors came here legally in the mid 1800's. I will take no responiblity for what the English,spanish and French did to the Native Americans. My ancestors were German and they tried to live in peace along side the Indians that were living in the west and midwest. Most of them fought against slavery thats why the whites in Texas at the time drove the German settlers out or flat out killed them.

 

Native means born in that location,it doesn't matter where your ancestors came from.
