I love all people rich and poor but in those positions ... STFU Trump.

Words like that are not meant for public consumption ... whether right or wrong !!!

 

Without context I can't comment on Trump's statement. But I'll tell you this, employers in quite a few fields run credit checks on prospective employees. Can't have dirt poor Joe handling temptation. As far as words for public consumption, everyone needs to put on their big boy pants and suck it up. A refined orator Trump will never be.

 

It's absolutely tone deaf. Putting aside politics and knowing that he's not articulate - the point is he thinks that being rich and making billions equates to good money management. Ignoring the fact that this isn't always true, I personally get his sentiment. However it doesn't reflect the realities of America. A vast majority of America doesn't have investment income. A vast majority of America cannot play the financial games the rich play. And that's what most of his financial folks are pushing for. It becomes an endless cycle because they are making it easier for the wealthiest to acquire more wealth which in turn shuts out the little guy even more.

I'm largely unaffected. Both my husband and I make in the low 6-figure range (each...combined we're still low 6 figures lol). But I look at some of my friends and they keep getting shut out of the game. Opportunity isn't equal. The game is absolutely rigged. He's just making it worse. But I also get what he's trying to say. He just doesn't know what it's like to not have money.

This is the exact problem only you've taken it down to the entry level. While only a part of it, this is a key statement on the cycle of poverty. You are poor therefore you are not trustworthy (which is asinine). Since you are viewed as untrustworthy, you can't get a job that helps getting you out of poverty. And because you can't get out of poverty, you are continuously looked as as untrustworthy. Or lazy. Or uneducated. Or dangerous. <insert description here>.

True, while one has to have a mind for the complexities of the US financial system, one also doesn't have to be a billionaire...hell even a millionaire...to do the job. There are plenty of CFOs or business oriented minds in the financial services industry that can figure out how to bring relevance to commerce or treasury needs. As well as being closer to those who are disenfranchised and work on "rich people solutions"

 

Well, we've always known Trump is a pompous gas bag with no filter between his mouth and his brain.
Shooter for one finds it sometimes refreshing to hear the gears grinding away in that head.

So; as JPT noted, these words are not for public consumption, but certainly apply no matter who sits in the oval office.

I hate to break it to you... but that is the name of the game. Make money, not lose money.

 

Truth be told, I wouldn't want someone with a history of bankruptcies running it either.

 

I have to agree with Trump. Would you hire a financial adviser that lived in a trailer and drove a 87 Dodge?

A credit check is one thing but there are many professions that are inhabited by people who are not motivated by money per se. Scientists, teachers, care professions to name but a few. Surely for any position you want the person best qualified to do that job and in many instances having an eight figure bank balance does not necessarily mean you are qualified!
