I've been in this exact situation before so i would hope that i know what i'm talking about. The way that it had worked for me was to just hang out with him for an afternoon, and to just work your way into it, if he doesn't seem interested, don't push it, nervousness is a part on any first time experience; He just has to warm up to the idea.
