I just wanted to add as a parent my major concern is that at that age they tend to be too emotionally vulnerable.
The relationship is so emotionally consuming and disruptive to the teen and interference adds more turmoil.
They need guidance, nurturing and support. Keep them focused on their life goals, education career etc.

4-5 years age gap is nothing. My brother is about that much older than his wife. And they did start dating when she was 17. God knows how many years together, two kids... good for them So being 17 doesn't mean all your choises are wrong. And to be honest - I don't evin think people will look at you weird.
