Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez explains how we can afford her programs, which help people, while we cannot afford to cut taxes for the rich while spending more on defense, and building Trump's Wall.

Speaking of Trump's Wall, whatever became of his promise that Americans would not need to pay for it at all? While I am on the subject of promises, what happened to Trump's claim that he could pay off the national debt in eight years with better trade deals? When is that going to start?

At crucial junctures in history, leadership makes a huge difference. The Great Depression gave us Franklin Roosevelt. It gave Germany Adolf Hitler.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is just starting out. This time last year she was tending bar. Nevertheless, in addition to being drop dead gorgeous, she is charismatic and really, really smart. She talks about problems that concern most Americans. She advocates policies that have majority support, such as Medicare for all,

    https://www.businessinsider.com/pol...lic-option-bernie-sanders-plan-support-2018-3

    raising taxes on the rich,

and raising the minimum wage to #15 an hour,

or plurality support, such as free college.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez thinks fast on her feet. She is going to be impressive in Congressional debates.

The entire human race needs another 10,000 years of civilization in order for Ms Cortez's vision to succeed. This might be over your head though...once again until humankind stop killing each other and destroying all the good things they build socialism will not succeed. It doesn't matter how hard you libs wish, it just ain't happening. Humans are still much too primitive.

A Trump debate should be in front of a panel of experts who would be quick to call him on his false statements. He should not be allowed to preach to a choir of his poorly educated white followers.

Ah yes, the avowed socialist who was for tax cuts before she was for raising taxes.

SOCIALIST DARLING ALEXANDRIA OCASIO-CORTEZ CALLED FOR TAX CUTS WHEN SHE WAS RUNNING A BUSINESS, NOW WANTS TO RAISE TAXES TO FUND HER RADICAL AGENDA

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the upstart Democratic Socialist who shocked the political world in the June primary when she defeated 10-term incumbent Rep. Joseph Crowley of New York, once advocated for tax cuts when she was running a business of her own, uncovered news reports from 2012 reveal.

Ocasio-Cortez, 28, is a dues-paying member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), an organization that calls for the abolishment of capitalism and argues that “private corporate property is not only wrong, but also nonsensical.” Her campaign platform calls for instituting a single-payer health care system, a federal jobs guarantee and housing as a human right, radical and expensive policies she says will be funded through raising taxes on corporations and high-income Americans.

But Ocasio-Cortez appeared to have a different outlook on capitalism and taxes in 2012 when she was running a business of her own, Brook Avenue Press, an incorporated publishing firm for children’s books set in the Bronx. As a business owner, she came out in support of a bill that would provide tax deductions for business start-up costs, arguing that taxes directly impacted her business profits.

“You don’t really make a profit in your first year,” Ocasio-Cortez told the now-defunct DNAinfo when she was 22. “To get taxed on top of that is a real whammy.”

Ocasio-Cortez was then a member of the Sunshine Bronx Business Incubator, a city-sponsored business hub that attracted dozens of entrepreneurs trying to get their businesses off the ground.

“You see a huge return on your investment here,” Ocasio-Cortez told the New York Daily News of her involvement with the Business Incubator. “People pay $500 an hour for consulting that we get for free by the water cooler.”

During her time in the business world, the self-proclaimed socialist tweeted out multiple articles by Paul Graham, an English-born entrepreneur and venture capitalist.

    ocasio cortez capitalist.jpg

She even gave entrepreneurial talks at Boston University, her alma mater, where she touted her partnership with the Sunshine Bronx Business Incubator designing “entrepreneurial curricula for those interested in launching their own enterprises.” Her primary interests were in “entrepreneurship and developing innovative, healthy, enterprising communities for generations to come,” according to her speaker page on Boston University’s website. (RELATED: DNC Chair: Socialist Ocasio-Cortez Is ‘Future Of Our Party’)

Ocasio-Cortez’s talk of the values of entrepreneurship, profits and lower taxes in 2012 are antithetical to the values she now espouses as a member of the DSA, an organization that marches the streets calling for the abolishment of profit.

    democrat socialists abolish profit.jpg

Ocasio-Cortez now rails against laws that cut taxes for businesses, such as the tax reform bill signed into law in December, which has been widely praised by small businesses. She claims the tax savings produced by the bill could have paid for health care and free public college for every American.

The enterprising capitalist-turned-socialist is now being touted by high-ranking Democrats as the future of the party.

What you said does not refute what I said.

Although there is popular support for much of what Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez advocates, 2016 was probably too early for her kind of politics.

Trump won in 2016 because he pretended to care about the poorly educate people he pretends to love. He did not run as a conventional Republican, but as one committed to preserve popular middle class entitlements.

As president he has ruled as a conventional Republican, cutting taxes for the rich while raising defense spending.

After four years of a faux egalitarian I exect the electorate to be ready for a genuine egalitarian. We'll see.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is only the first. I suspect that there are many millennials who are aspiring politicians with her charisma, intelligence, and political opinions.

Medicare for all, 34 trillion over 10 years that's just 3.4 trillion per year who's going to pay that?
some numbers I have heard if they TAKE everything from companies or families that make over $90,000 a year (Take not tax TAKE) per year that would still not pay for Medicare for all, but hey i'm a MARINE my math might be a bit off

It was proven by the Cock brothers own study that it still saves over $2trillion dollars, the cost that is touted is LESS THAN WHAT WE ARE SPENDING NOW AND GETTING LESS FOR.

The current Medicare system is less generous than 80 percent to 90 percent of insurance plans for the non-elderly.

It has a deductible for hospital care that is fast approaching $1,000, far above that of all but a few private plans.

It has no limit on out-of-pocket costs, no coverage for most out-patient drugs, and no coverage of nursing home care unless it immediately follows hospitalization.

FLASHBACK: Ocasio-Cortez Accused Primary Opponent of 'Avoiding a Debate'

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez recently rejected Ben Shapiro's Twitter request for a debate and dismissed the challenge as "catcalling," but tweets from several months ago show the Democratic Socialist congressional candidate using a similar strategy against her primary opponent.

Shapiro tweeted a video on Wednesday offering to donate $10,000 to Ocasio-Cortez's campaign if she comes on his program for an hour-long conversation "about all the topics under the sun."

Thursday night, Ocasio-Cortez compared the offer to "catcalling" on Twitter.

A tweet from May, however, shows Ocasio-Cortez taking matters into her own hands to get her primary opponent, incumbent Rep. Joe Crowley, agree to a debate with her.

"My opponent seems to be avoiding a debate, and isn’t acknowledging me. It’s just the 2 of us. So weekend I stopped by his office, said hello, & asked for a debate in person," Ocasio-Cortez wrote alongside a photo of her at Crowley's campaign office.

Ocasio-Cortez went after Crowley again a month later, saying she was "disappointed" when he failed to show up to a community debate.

Erielle Davidson, a contributor to The Federalist, said Ocasio-Cortez was willing to engage in dialogue in May, but several months later she has changed her tune.

"I think what it comes down to is she's probably just scared that Ben Shapiro might be able to out-debate her," Davidson said. "She doesn't want to be in a situation where she's going to be challenged."

    Watch more above.

She tried to engage her competition in a debate, and he failed to acknowledge her, to his peril.

That request was appropriate, in that the relevant constituents outfit to be able to listen to their candidates.

This other fellow is nothing but a media whore, looking for attention.

      Kinda like Kim Jong-Un.

Those who say that we cannot pay for Alexandruia Ocasio-Cortez's programs have not explained how we can afford to cut taxes for the rich and corporations, pay for a stupid wall Americans were not supposed to have to pay for at all, while wasting a lot of money on useless military hardware on a military that can't win wars.

When was the last time the United States won a war? The U.S. military is an expensive government boondoggle that does not work. Let's stop killing people in other countries and concentrate on improving life for Americans.

After September 11th 2001 many Americans were going to CUBA to get healthcare, these were the first responders that the US refused to care for, Cuba took them in and cared for them for free and let them come back home. The US government turned their backs on them and Michael Moore helped them as did Cuba.

As members of Congress return to their states and districts to debate the merits of the Democrats' proposals for health care reform, critics of the proposals may repeat the phrase used by some Republicans, newspaper editorials and bloggers that 'the American health care system is the envy of the world."
If so, they should read the results of a recent Harris/Decima poll in Canada that found a 10-to-1 majority of Canadians believed their system was "superior" to the U.S. system. They might also note that a 70% majority of Canadians thought their system was "performing well"; and that a majority favored an expansion of public sector health care (i.e., "government-run" health care in the current debate) over private sector health care.

These are some of the results of a recent Harris/Decima telephone survey conducted between June 4 and 8, 2009 by Harris/Decima among 1,000 Canadian adults.

    The main findings were:

    • A 70% majority of Canadians thought their system was performing either "very well (12%) or "fairly well" (58%). Only 28% thought it was performing "not well at all" (9%) or "not that well" (19%).
    • Most people (55%) favored an expansion of the public sector. Just over a quarter (27%) of Canadians thought that the Canadian system had got the balance between public and private sector health care right. Only 12% favored a tilt towards the private sector.
    • An 82% majority of Canadians believed their country's health care system was superior to the U.S. system. Only 8% thought the U.S. system was superior.
