  2. Hello,

You can now get verified on forum.

The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

I need to be able to recognize you in that picture. You need to have some pictures of your self in your gallery so I can compare that picture.

Please note that verification is completely optional and it won't give you any extra features or access. You will have a check mark (as I have now, if you want to look) and verification will only mean that you are who you say you are.

You may not use a fake pictures for verification. If you try to verify your account with a fake picture or someone else picture, or just spam me with fake pictures, you will get Banned!

The pictures that you will send me for verification won't be public

    Best regards,

    StanleyOG.

I wanted to be a teacher (a guy who lurks adult forums wants to be a teacher?! Think of the children!!!) but recent events in education have sullied that dream for me. I've been re-evaluating my life and what I want, and I noticed that I really like Philosophy. I've been looking this up online ,and apparently there are alot more jobs out there for philosophy majors then I first thought. Anyone wanna help convince me that I should pursue a degree in Philosophy?

Any liberal arts degree is essentially the same as any other. Do what interests you.
You'll end up in the business world regardless.

No, I'd be more likely to talk you out of it. But you could still be a teacher. And with a PhD, you could even teach other philosophy students. :)

    1) Locate Monty Python Live at the Hollywood Bowl-several of the skits are philosophy related, including a sing along with the audience, but the song is a learning tool for philosophy majors.

    2) The guys of Monty Python all had Masters degrees in philosophy from Oxford University. Brilliant guys all.

With that said, you need a masters degree to be taken seriously today. With that, at best you'll end up teaching. Still, you'll be better off than a lot of teachers today, who are so without that it appeared that they cheated their way through college and school and they rely on their union to save them from their own incompetence.

Here's one of my favorite articles of all time (written in June 2006) about business, philosphy and the useful application of both/either:

Well, actually teaching Philosophy would be a dream come true, but I dont know if that's really viable in this job market. Is there a good chance I could make that happen? If it doesnt, I need the degree to help me get another job, so I was just wondering.

There's a guy I heard about that majored in philosophy. He got a job writing abstracts for scientific papers. He got bored doing that and opened up a motorcycle repair shop and wrote a book about philosophy on the side. He was interviewed on NPR. That is where I heard this story. :)

    Ah! I found the story...

I don't think there are too many jobs out there that REQUIRE a PhD, other than teaching at the university level. Whether you could wangle a tenure-track job teaching philosophy is not clear, but if that's truly your dream come true, you ought to pursue it. There are a LOT of colleges in the world.

    Philosophy is a worthy pusuit.

But if you wish to be a good professor first, and foremost you must be a good practitioner.
Seek to be a good student, first, last, and always.
Then not only do your students learn the material, but they also learn how to be a good student by your example.:-H
I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you would never fuck a student for a grade.:-~
What you do is you fuck the A students.
    It's like they're reward, you know?:lol::roll:
    Sorry, I couldn't resist that one.
But seriously, I would never discourge someone from seeking to better themselves, and I have found that my own limited study of the subject has had a positive effect on my life, and has helped me to live a more satisfying life.

    *edit*
Shit! I fucked up the headline, and they won't let me fix it.
If I'd put another s in we could safely call that a Freudian slip, but this is kinda iffy.

That was an amazing read! I had to trudge through it at first, but when it got to the point, it really had me hooked! Thanks, I feel more confident about this. My favorite line.

"In a sense, management theory is what happens to philosophers when you pay them too much."

That made me laugh. But its not about the money. Honestly, I just love the subject and I want to study it more, I was just afraid I wouldnt find a career once I was done with that. It's good to know that wont be the case. Thanks, everyone.

I found philosophy to be one of the most interesting subjects I have ever studied. Most philosophy majors become teachers and if you can become tenured you will be set...maybe. The educational system in America needs fixed in my opinion, our high schools need to prepare students who don't go on with real job skills. I keep seeing all these college graduates and the majority cannot find jobs. I would only pursue something if my heart tells me so. +
