As More Historical Statues Fall...

Human rights is a vague term . I don't you start by defining what that means .
Is freedom from honor killing a human right .
As I mentioned William Tecumseh Sherman created a world of suffering among Native Americans basically calling for genocide .
he was an individual and no one would have a problem with celebrating a statue of him .
There are not a plethora of civilizations that can compare to the Roman empire
Perhaps the Greeks , The Persians and a couple in China . It does not a plethora make.
No, it's not. That's why we have a declaration about them.
It's already been defined.
Yes, of course, but you're shifting goalposts. This topic isn't about honour killings.
Nonsense, there are plenty of people who have issues with him.
Nonsense. There are more than 20 empires that have been larger than the Roman Empire, and at least another 20 that have been similar in size and scope.
Years ago white people had slaves.
Years ago black people had slaves.
Years ago red people had slaves.
Why is it only the white people get blamed for it?
Well I suppose we could bring in the Medes and Persians and the Hittites and the Babylonians . But I don't see them making the impact that is still seen within the Greco Roman period.
Maybe a little bit more with the Egyptian empire .
Just because you don't see it doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
Outside of our clock system how has the Babylonian empire influenced our modern world?
And the assyrian empire?
Perhaps you can think of lingering influences that the Hittite empire has made on our culture .
Your responses are becoming increasingly personal .
It might be worthy of some reciprocation
Have you given any thought to why you are so casually angry?
It's a shame that you are feeding into stereotypes of the angry lesbian .
Our modern world isn't restricted to the USA. It's got a huge influence over the Middle East.
"Our culture" isn't the only culture. There are plenty of other cultures. Just because you don't personally see an influence, doesn't mean it's not there.
That's because you keep talking increasingly about your personal experiences.
Not really, because I'm not. Have you given some thought about why you're so thin skinned?
Well, if it makes you feel any better, I'm not hitting on you.
Doesn't make me feel one way or the other and if you were hitting on me you would be unsuccessful .
Don't flatter yourself.
Too many insults to various members and not a warrant just an insult .
My time is short and I wish you the best
Not all history is pleasant to remember....Which just makes it more important to be reminded.
There is always been a controversy about tearing down the Nazi death camps .
But they're part of the historical record .
I know that there is a difference because the south is celebrating their leaders in Germany is not celebrating concentration camps .
However the south did fight for legitimate reasons . And if it weren't for slavery I think that the South had a better argument
I have been to one of those death camps. It was a very spooky visit.
I never gave a thought about tearing it down, just didn't want to spend my vacation there.
There is a slavery museum not that far away from me.
The English were not blameless in this atrocity to say the very least.
Don't even get me started on the British
They gave mixed messages to Germany before the first world war and if the Germans knew for sure that the English were going to be a part of the opposition the Germans probably would not have entered The first world war .
And then there is Neville Chamberlain who finally declared war on Germany way too late and then did nothing about it for the better part of a year .
And that's just the tip of the iceberg
We do like a good scrap.
I always feel a bit sorry for Chamberlain..There was much more behind the "peace in our time speech" than even historians don't know or won't tell.
Really? Didn't he try to placate Hitler by splitting up Poland...it's why Churchill is one of my heroes because he didn't let Hitler bully him.
If England had told Hitler that we will go to war than he would have invaded UK first and we'd all be goose stepping.
Apologists for chamberlain often say that the British were not ready for war .
But the delays allowed the Germans to become even stronger .
I guess I don't feel sorry for Chamberlain .
He gave away part of what is now the Czech Republic which was not even part of the British Empire.
And the further delays after declaring war on Germany and not doing anything did not help his reputation.
I could get into the hypocrisies of the United States during this time as well but I am trying to stay on topic
Hitler would never have been able to invade the United Kingdom.
The British Navy was too powerful and Hitler did not know what to do when he faced any kind of water .
Other than the U-boats his Navy was a joke .
Even his Navy commander's insisted that he wait until the German Navy could improve itself .
But Hitler was impetuous and almost single-handedly destroyed the German military .
His trying to invade Leningrad killed a lot of his military and Stalin was just as bad!
