  2. Hello,

You can now get verified on forum.

The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

I need to be able to recognize you in that picture. You need to have some pictures of your self in your gallery so I can compare that picture.

Please note that verification is completely optional and it won't give you any extra features or access. You will have a check mark (as I have now, if you want to look) and verification will only mean that you are who you say you are.

You may not use a fake pictures for verification. If you try to verify your account with a fake picture or someone else picture, or just spam me with fake pictures, you will get Banned!

The pictures that you will send me for verification won't be public

A friend in Malibu is being evacuated; for some reason this fire had flown under my radar.

    Be careful and safe!

There are 4 major (1000 acres or more) wildfires burning across our state at the moment - and no rain in sight for the foreseeable future. The Camp Fire in Butte County is the largest and most destructive so far. It's going to be a very rough end to a very dry Fall out here in the West :nailbiting:

I've lived in California most of my life and this is the first time I've ever heard of a whole city being evacuated.

I'm just settled in at our motel. We're about 50 miles from the Camp Fire in Butte County. It's smokey but most of it is going South from me.
The place I am staying is full of evacuees and the city of Paradise is pretty much burned to the ground from what I have been told.
there was a brutal North Wind that spread it out of control but fortunately its died down so that will help. I'm hearing they're evacuating parts of Chico now.

Hope everything works out for you Rixer. Damn shame about all these fires. They're terrible, so much destruction.

I will be fine, thanks Mr Smith. It's far from my home so it's safe and I'm about 5o miles from it and will be a little further where we're headed tomorrow. I feel for all those who are losing everything right now. Then there's the pets and other animals in danger from the fire that really gets to you. And it ain't over yet....

Good to hear you guys will be fine. Yeah, it's absolutely devastating to those who lose everything they've worked their entire lives for. The deaths from this fire are tragic, I believe it's about the worst fire I remember. So glad you guys are among the lucky ones.

Somehow the image of @Rixer with his leg up watering his favorite tree to save it sticks in my mind...

    Stay safe, everyone.

Tragically I just read a story where they are finding bodies in burned out cars.

And its hard to imagine just how terrible it is without being there. But the pictures and videos I have seen are horrendous.

Oh crap that's fucking terrible. These fires can just come up before you can get out. Some are down dead end roads. That north wind cranked the fire up they couldn't do much of anything.

I’m lucky to be about 4 hours from the fires, but the smoke is pretty noticeable in the air even down here

A dear friend bought a home in Chico last spring. She’s currently in Seattle with her daughter, and out of her mind with worry.

      It’s awful.

Thank you very much for your kind offer, @even keel . I'm pretty far away from it, so I'm definitely safe down here in the Bay Area. :)

This is just so incredibly tragic I hate to even think about it. And from what I am seeing on the news right now things are still out of control.

We're almost 200 miles away from the fires, and this is the amount of smoke we have here. I can't even imagine how bad it must be for people in the area trying to drive to get out of there.

That is so fucking horrible. Literal firestorms leaving nothing but total devastation behind.

And I am not even going to post the story but it says 9 dead now and dozens missing.

Back in the 80's when I was in the newspaper business Yellowstone caught fire. And visibility was cut to 10 feet. Literally. We went to a football game and when they kicked the ball off you could see it for about 10 feet and then both teams would just stand around until the ball hit the ground because with just 10 feet notice there was no time to react.

Most the state was like that. And the DEQ was sending out notices saying don't worry about it. The smoke is not all that harmful. But since I was in the newspaper business I remembered when the DEQ was trying to get the people in one of the larger towns to knock of their wood burning stoves because when they got temperature inversions the smoke would just hang in the town and they said it wold kill you.

So I would not spend much time outside if you can help it.

Firemen have a much bigger chance of getting cancer than the normal population.
I would avoid being in the smoke at all times possible.

after utterly destroying a town of nearly 30,000 - the Camp Fire in Butte has made its way to the outskirts of Chico, CA - a city of 90,000. We are hoping for favorable weather and wind conditions, but at only 20% containment, this thing is not done yet :-/
