Bill Maher warned Democrats this week that they are "blowing" their chance to beat President Trump in 2020 by "coming across as unserious people who are going to take away all your money so migrants from Honduras can go to college for free and get a major in 'America sucks.'"

"All the Democrats have to do to win is to come off less crazy than Trump. And, of course, they’re blowing it," Maher said Friday on his HBO show, “Real Time with Bill Maher.”...

"Now, do I want Biden to be president? Not really. But Biden is the only Democrat who beats Trump in Ohio," he said. "He’s like non-dairy creamer. Nobody loves it, but in a jam it gets the job done. I can’t figure people out, but they just like Joe. Maybe it’s the familiarity. He’s like a McDonald’s when you’re in Europe."

"Fatigue is the best thing we've got going for us. The majority of Americans aren't tired of winning, they're tired of looking at his fat f---ing face!" Maher explained. "It's hard to beat an incumbent in a good economy. Every incumbent since FDR has won if they avoided a recession leading up to an election year and consumer confidence is sky-high. ... The voters that Democrats need to win, moderates who have Trump fatigue, will vote against a good economy, I think, just to get back to normalcy, but they won't trade it away for left-wing extremism."

There is little I can add. This is no time for Democratic primary candidates to be debating on who can do the most to restore forced school busing, who can spend the most white tax money on programs to close the economic race gap (which is caused by the IQ race gap, but that's a topic for another thread) and who can do the most to help more third world immigrants to escape the social dysfunctions they bring with them to our country.

The Democrats need to concentrate on winning the votes of whites who have become disgusted with the orange monster in the White House.

Bill Maher is one of the liberals that I kind of admire.

He questioned Islam at one point in a panel discussion and Ben Affleck went apoplectic yelling we shouldn’t even be talking about this!

When Maher asked why can’t we talk about this Affleck went into full adolescent overdrive. “Because it’s racist and gross” he said, pouting

First of all Islam is not a race and no idea should be above discussion.

This kind of thing is why people think liberals are opposed to free speech.

Everything secular liberals hate and condemn about the religious right and the Bible Belt is far more true of Muslims and Islam. Nevertheless, secular liberals think that Muslims and Islam should be above criticism.

 

Islam and Ben Affleck. Two jokes one sentence. Does this make me an honorary Republican?

 

Actually, I think Maher right. In fact, I think extremism has reached both parties and people are getting sick of the infighting and inability to compromise on anything. I'm sick of it all.

My respect for him pretty much dropped to zero when he said he was rooting for a recession to get rid of Trump. He even says, "people will get hurt but..."

"Cuz my desire to get rid of Trump is way more important than your desire to keep the job that puts food on the table to feed your family, pay your mortgage, and other stuff that would never affect me if I lost my job right now."

It depends on what people find entertaining, the fellow has a show on HBO and makes pretty damn good money. I'd venture a wild guess and say he's doing better than most of the people here.

Shortly after Barack Obama was inaugurated president Rush Limbaugh said, "I hope he fails." He meant essentially the same thing as Bill Maher. Limbaugh wanted the economy to fail.

 

Now, there are countless ways a President can fail, and they are not all predicated to a successful/failed economy. He didn't mention "economy", "recession", etc.

Maybe on his "spread the wealth around" comment? Or, his feeling the need to "fundamentally transform" America?

 

People upset about Mahers comment re Economy, I wonder how they feel about Dobbs comment on using a truck to move protesters who are in your way?
