Pics is a bad word around here lately.

Hey, I did 5 star (*****) rate your story, like I did all the others in the CAW. Just cause some readers might look for more stars.

 

Why haven't the dingoes been able to keep their numbers down? I would think that the dingoes would be going into a feeding frenzy with all those rabbits.

The recent discussion about pics in stories made me think when I was putting the finishing touches on this one. Here, I'm not sure what images I could use to really enhance the thing. Sure, I could come up with a pic of a corner bar from the late 60s or a girl in what would have been a daring bikini at the time. I could probably find an image of a girl in lingerie translucent enough to let you know she wasn't clean-shaven. Pics of girls in the shower having fun with a guy aren't that hard to find.

But why? I don't give THAT much physical description in my writing these days. I have a picture in my head of what the location and the people look like, and I try to write enough of it to lead the reader. We'll see if it worked this time.

 

Simple equation: more prey (rabbits) than predators (dingos) plus an abundant food supply for a few years = population boom of the rabbits.

Even a large dingo could only eat three or four average sized ones at a time before his gut is filled.

You have a mass of rabbits swarm your crops the damage done can be immense, especially when the numbers mass in the hundreds to thousands.

 

You also have to remember that rabbits were an introduced species into Australia. They were not natural prey for a dingo.

We're getting a decent field this time -- fourteen so far, I think -- and there are a couple days left to submit.

I hope our current CAW SOP creates a "CAW #18 Reading Phase" thread as soon as possible after the writing deadline. Often, we're given a day per story for reading before the voting begins, which at this point would mean a two-week reading period. After that, we'll need several days to vote. In the past some Hosts have made the Voting Phase last nine days to include two weekends.

Another question: How many votes will we be able to cast? Sometimes, with a larger collection of stories, we get to place two votes. Not sure if that can be done with a site-structure poll, but it's something to consider.

I posted that comment before reading the story but have to say that I would have voted positive even if it was NOT a CAW story - that was good writing.

 

Reminds me of the story my grandpa told about carling rabbits into enclosures and beating them all to death with shovels in the 1930's. Ever heard a wounded rabbit? If you haven't you don't want to.

 

I've heard those stories: as for a wounded rabbit - yes I have heard its cry, and no one should seek to hear it.

 

There must be a lot of people like me who are waiting for the official thread to post all of the links, before starting to read.

 

I am. Fifteen stories and counting is a good collection. It will probably be easier to keep track of what I read and enjoyed if I work from the official list.

Let's hope we get as good a turn-out of readers and voters this time as we have writers.

I am not yet through reading the submitted stories and wish that Wee Hector has left his work in the comp but, …
Some of the works that I have read have left others in the cold so I already have a short list started. I hope that I can whittle it down to 1 or 2 or possibly 3 by the time the voting thread is put up.

 

I've been doing a lot of reading and editing for people. Sometimes things come together and sometimes they don't. I notice some stories not getting read at all.

 

Alright I don't think my story will be done in time, so good luck to all those who have entered. I will try to post the story I came up with as soon as I can. In the mean time to those who still plan on entering try to use a proof reader, because you don't know how many times this has happened to me, and I am sure others as well.
