Oh boy.

It's going to be tough to choose as there are so many good tales here yet again. I still have a few to read, but with a week's grace for voting that won't be a problem. Great work once again Ejls/CAW SOP and even greater work all you authors!

 

Okay, so now we have to choose, huh? Just great. I get to cut thirteen stories from my list (difficult to whittle it down that far) and then rank the other three (damn near impossible).

Sometimes it's easy to cut a story from my "short list". I look for creativity, good story-telling, an understandable plot, strong characterizations, the ability to evoke a reaction from the reader, overall flow, a basic grasp of the rules of written English, and an overall sense of care given by the writer to his/her work.

Most entries this time had most of those things. That means eliminating entries from my voting list will be real work.

Congratulations to everyone who entered. Your stories make choosing a challenge. That's a good thing.

Congratulations and thanks also to ejls -- she thought of this idea in the first place, and over the course of two dozen "official" CAWs and a few off-shoots, people on this site have shown real talent. This is a nice little writing community we have here.

 

What is the criteria for being allowed to vote?

 

In the past its been a brain. "One brain, one vote."

Anyone with an account could vote, but socks don't get extra votes and couples get one each. That seems fair to me, but Ejls gets to set the criteria.

In the blink of an eye the results will be announced and we'll all be put out of our misery.

All the trying to pick up perceived hints or slip ups , sussing the writing style , the is it's or isn't it's will be over.

Maybe there should be a competition to see who guessed the most authors right !

Seriously though , I don't know about the writers but I can't wait to find out.

It's going to be hard and it's a dirty job but somebody's .....

And I for one hope the CAW never ends. It seems to me , it brings out that need to create in the authors, . And they create some spectacular work.

This is my first reading, in real time, and the first voting, other than in my own head! It certainly won't be my last.

So in some slightly sadistic way I'm going to enjoy the voting. There I said it. .

I want to thank all the writers for making my decision of what three stories to vote for nearly impossible. Very well done all.

 

I have been unable to find the time to read the stories this time around. As a results of this I am unable to vote.

If the group feels my story should be pulled from the competition for this please let ejls know so she can drop it.

 

Nonsense. There's never been a rule saying an entrant had to read all the other stores. I agree that it would be unfair to vote without having checked all the entries, but your story should stay.

We still have several days. Get busy reading. There are some great stories here.

 

So that's what we've been missing, Brootal comments. Definitely no reason to withdraw.

 

I actually wondered why he hadn't picked apart all the flaws in my entry.

C'mon, Broot. Read. Even if you don't comment until after the voting is done, don't pass up these stories. There are some good ones.

 

I'll read my top 15 again and see which ones grabs my eye the most this time round.

 

I have no clue where my three votes are going! Maybe it's time to bring out the CAW dartboard again.

 

I've come to the conclusion that writing the story is not actually the hardest part. The works that have been submitted by most of you writers is absolutely top class. I think a ten page spread sheet might help me with the voting.

 

Technically, anyone can vote.

The preferred requirement for voting has been for the person to have read all the entries. I mean really, how can you vote for a winner if you haven't read all the stories to judge which is "the best"?

 

I have managed to read through the stories and now need a day or two to digest them. I think I have my top three picked out and that bothers me. I usually have more trouble picking which ones to vote for. Noe of the stories really affected me on an emotional level this time (not even my own) so my heart will not make the decision.

Am I turning into a heartless prick?

 

I think you should go re-read the comments you made. Some of them are quite the opposite of heartless, with some of the stories touching you.
