Student Claims CNN Rewrote Town Hall Question, Told Him to 'Stick to the Script'

A Florida student claims that CNN rewrote his question for the network's Wednesday night town hall debate on gun violence.

Colton Haab, a junior at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, where 17 people were shot and killed last week, says he did not attend the event when he realized it would be a "total waste of [his] time."

CNN denies that it scripted questions for any of the participants at the town hall, which was attended by Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Sen. Bill Nelson (D-Fla.) and NRA spokeswoman Dana Loesch.

On "Tucker Carlson Tonight" on Thursday, Haab said he was contacted several days ago by a CNN producer who asked him to write a speech to deliver at the event, in addition to questions to ask.

He said after some back and forth, he was eventually provided with a question that was not his own words.

"They had taken what I had wrote and what I had briefed on and talked about, and they actually wrote the question for me," Haab said, agreeing with Carlson that it seemed "dishonest."

He said that's why he decided not to attend the town hall.

"Originally, I had thought that it was going to be more of my own question and my own say. And then it turned out to be more of just a script," Haab said. "And [the producer] had actually said that over the phone, that I needed to stick to the script."

When Carlson asked if he believes other students' town hall questions were reworded, Haab said "absolutely."

"Honestly, it was very shocking to me, because we just went through such a horrific tragedy," Haab said. "For them to take that and make such a big newscast over what they want to hear, it was very upsetting to me."

      Why, no, they aren't.
And CNN isn't in the business of making money.
And the ban the gun lobby isn't politicizing what happened in Florida.

    CNN launches gun control crusade

    Whatever happened to objective coverage?

    2/24/18

Supporters of gun rights are criticizing CNN over a “town hall” it held on gun control. By hosting it, CNN gave these conservatives a choice: Either stay away from the forum, and be attacked as a coward, or go, and be called a “murderer” to the applause of the crowd. Florida Gov. Rick Scott chose the first option, National Rifle Association spokesman Dana Loesch the second.

On its own, the town hall might be defensible. But it has to be seen in the context of the rest of CNN’s coverage. Since the Parkland massacre, the network has been in the advocacy business.

Watch the network, read its website or scroll through its Twitter feed, and the overall message will come through loud and clear: Assault weapons should be banned, Republicans should be put on the spot for their votes to the contrary, and anyone who disagrees is on the take from the National Rifle Association.

When the Florida House decided not to consider an assault-weapons ban, the CNN Twitter account ran a roll call of the Republicans who voted it down along with their NRA ratings. It ran no roll call of Democrats who voted to advance the bill, which would have been just as informative. Only a naif would miss the implicit message: These people belong in a hall of shame.

The website has featured one pro-gun-control story after another.

On air, anchor Brooke Baldwin harangued a Republican state representative from Florida: “The status quo is unacceptable. Why not at least give it a shot and . . . at least consider the ban.”

CNN is taking a different approach to politicians who favor gun control. On Thursday morning, Florida Rep. Ted Deutch, a Democrat, got no challenging questions.

Alisyn Camerota asked two survivors of the Parkland shootings now calling for gun regulation if they knew they were up against the money of the NRA. (They did.) And Camerota didn’t mention the millions of voters for whom the NRA speaks, voters from whom it gets that money in the first place.

Anchors also promoted gun control on their own Twitter feeds. Chris Cuomo retweeted a fake story about a 20-year-old who had allegedly bought an AR-15 in five minutes, and then angrily defended himself from critics when the account was exposed as untrue. When President Trump brought up the idea of arming teachers as a defense against school shootings, Brian Stelter responded, “Music to the gun lobby’s ears?” He could have said, “This will please gun-rights supporters.” But he has never tweeted the phrase “gun rights.” He has never tweeted about the “gun-control lobby” either. He uses hostile terminology for one side of this debate.

The point isn’t that CNN’s point of view is crazy or extreme, or even wrong. Maybe CNN is right that assault weapons should be banned and the NRA taken on. Maybe it is right that Republicans ought to change their position on gun issues. A lot of intelligent and reasonable people think all of these things.

But CNN presents itself as an institution that reports the news straight. That’s the point of its “This is an apple” ad campaign. The idea is that in an atmosphere of pervasive distrust and no shared agreement about what’s true, it’s more important than ever to trust reliable and neutral sources of information. The network is not marketing itself as an explicitly progressive media outlet, the way Mother Jones and the Nation do.

Since the Parkland killings, CNN’s coverage has been an effective refutation of the network ads that promise unbiased reporting. If it wonders why so many Americans don’t trust news organizations any more, here’s an answer: They know that many media institutions are on one side of many political issues, and won’t cop to it.

Reporting on political debates in a neutral manner when you have strong views on them is psychologically challenging. CNN’s apparent solution is not to try. This is not an apple.

You really need to stop spreading this lie.

CNN releases emails to push back on claim about ‘scripted’ town hall question

And you too. It is really fucking disgusting the way people will try to promote lies about this tragedy. And that is especially true for our Liar In Chief.

CNN Gets Expert To Mislead The Public About AR-15s

CNN Uses Gun Expert To Come Down On AR-15.
The AR-15 triggers Liberals. They seem to think that AR-15s are like the 20s Tommy guns. When they think about them they can’t see anything but machine guns and violent shootings. So, of course, CNN found the one man that works at a gun range that would help them sell their guns are dangerous narrative.

The AR-15 was intended to be an upgrade to the AR-10 and meant to be for the military use only. But originally the military was not that interested in the weapon. Years went by and the military finally signed on but they modified the weapon and dubbed it the M-16A1. It was upgraded numerous times until it became the M-16A4 and now the military has moved over to the lighter, more efficient M-4.

The reporter makes firing an AR-15 look painful. He has a rather stressed faced while he is firing. That and the instructor could have helped him in shouldering the rifle better.

    Watch The Video Below.

His instructor Mark Hertling served in the army for 37 years but for some reason does not differentiate between an M-16 and an AR-15. Hertling even goes on to say that guns are dangerous and claims to put the gun in full semi-automatic mode, which is the mode the gun is always in…

This weapon in the wrong hands can be more dangerous than most weapons, because of its capability, to do a lot of damage in a short period of time, and be irreversible.”

Hertling then goes on to say that people that buy the AR-15’s should be heavily trained as the weapon is more dangerous than other guns.

It sounds like CNN paid this military man to say things that fit the anti-gun agenda. All guns can be dangerous when they are used by those who are not trained. Most guns these days are semi-automatic unless you are using a revolver or an older weapon that requires munitions to be loaded upon each shot. So they work the same way every time you pull the trigger it fires a round. This CNN report is out to say that AR-15s are military weapons that are dangerous and cause as Hertling said irreversible damage. All guns when fired will create irreversible damage. A gun is only dangerous to those that don’t know how to handle them properly.
