CNN’s Jake Tapper ‘could spend three hours’ listing Trump’s lies about the caravan — but here are just a few

President Donald Trump’s press conference Thursday was riddled with lies, many of which he’s repeated at his campaign rallies for the past few weeks.

“Before we talk about this with the panel,” Tapper began. “Just a few fact-checks, I could spend three hours.”

He explained that the president’s claim that asylum seekers that are caught never show up for their court date is an outright lie. The Department of Homeland Security reports 76 percent rate of those appearing. PolitiFact concurs.

Second, Trump claimed that there are an estimated 20 million undocumented immigrants in the United States. That number has come down from Trump’s initial exaggeration of 25-30 million he quoted the previous day. His own government puts that number at closer to 12 million.

“He said that they had started building the wall. No,” Tapper corrected. “If you’re talking about the concrete wall that president Trump talked about on the campaign trail [in 2016]; no, they have not started building the wall. There’s been some improvements to fencing and things along the border, and the wall itself that President Trump talked about they have not started building that.”

Tapper noted that Trump claimed Republicans are in unison on the issue of immigration, which also isn’t true. If they were, a bill would have been passed by now. So far the moderate wing of the GOP has broken with the Tea Party wing and Trump sides with the latter.

Meanwhile, Democratic consultant and CNN commentator Paul Begala remarked that all of this is to distract from the “caravan of Republicans” coming to take away health care from Americans.

CNN host Don Lemon is under fire after a disturbing, on-air rant in which he declared that “white men” are the biggest terror threat to the United States, noted that "there is no white-guy ban" and wondered aloud, "what do we do about that?"

“Cuomo Prime Time” namesake Chris Cuomo and Lemon were discussing the recent shooting of two black men in Kentucky that is being investigated as a hate crime when his Monday guest and colleague took the conversation off the rails.

“I keep trying to point out to people not to demonize any one group or any one ethnicity, but we keep thinking that the biggest terror threat is something else," Lemon said. "Some people who are marching towards the border like it’s eminent. And the last time they did this, a couple of hundred people came and they, you know, most of them didn’t get into the country. Most of them got tuckered out before they even made it to the border,” Lemon told his CNN colleague. “So we have to stop demonizing people and realize the biggest terror threat in this country is white men, most of them radicalized to the right, and we have to start doing something about them.”

Lemon then pondered solutions as Cuomo-- a privileged white male whose father was a Democratic Governor of New York -- looked on.

“There is no travel ban on them,” Lemon said. “There is no ban on… you know, they had the Muslim ban. There is no ‘white guy ban.’ So what do we do about that?”

Cuomo responded by telling Lemon he was “making the right point.”

Although the bizarre diatribe was quickly denounced by critics, CNN did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Fox News contributor Deroy Murdock said the racism coming from the left and mainstream media has become “breathtaking,” pointing to Lemon’s comment as the latest example.

“Lemon’s latest spurt of acid is a most unusual plea for national unity. ‘We have to stop demonizing people,’ and then, just two words later, a blast of divisiveness worthy of a machete,” Murdock said. “Painting with a roller rather than a mere broad brush, Lemon slams millions of his fellow Americans. He does not say they are wrong, mistaken, or misinformed. Rather, that are a ‘terror threat.’"

Murdock continued: Even worse, Lemon advises, ‘We have to start doing something about them.’ I shudder at the thought of what Lemon has in mind.”

CNN and Lemon had already been widely condemned for different rhetoric on Monday’s episode of “CNN Tonight." Lemon injected race into a discussion of topics including the anti-Semitic, Trump-hating gunman who killed 11 worshipers in a Pittsburgh synagogue last week and the Trump supporter suspected of sending mail bombs to Democrats.

“The right-wing group killed a woman in Charlottesville. This guy is a right-winger who killed the people in the synagogue. The right-winger sent bombs to CNN and to Democrats. I don’t see Democrats killing people,” Lemon said also said on Monday.

Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La., who survived a 2017 assassination attempt by a Bernie Sanders supporter while practicing for a baseball game with fellow GOP lawmakers – made it clear on Twitter that he heard the comment and responded with a simple emoji of eyes watching and his spokesperson offered a statement condemning the remark.

“Steve Scalise was nearly assassinated by a leftist who came to a baseball field with the specific intention of murdering several Republican members of Congress. While that reality may be inconvenient for the narrative Don Lemon is trying to push, the fact remains that Democrats do in fact have an issue with political violence that cannot be ignored or swept under the rug,” Lauren Fine, a spokeswoman for Scalise, told Fox News.

“CNN Tonight” host Don Lemon said Americans need to “realize the biggest terror threat in this country is white men.”

Lemon’s comments about white men being a terror threat went largely unnoticed until Daily Wire reporter Ryan Saavedra circulated the video via Twitter on Tuesday night – promoting critics to slam the CNN host.

Saavedra’s tweet resulted in thousands of comments slamming Lemon as everything from “racist” to Unbelievable.”

Fox News Senior Political Analyst Brit Hume responded, “I could hardly believe he actually said that, but the video shows he certainly did. Remarkable.” Donald Trump Jr. tweeted the video captioned, ‘Imagine the outrage if you changed ‘white men’ with any other demographic?”

Monday was labeled as a “new low” for CNN by conservative strategist Chris Barron and that was before Saavedra unearthed Lemon’s comment. The same day, anchor Jake Tapper didn’t push back when far-left GQ Magazine columnist Julia Ioffe declared that Trump “has radicalized so many more people than ISIS.”

Ioffe eventually apologized and was allowed to go back on CNN later in the evening, where she made another batch of controversial remarks.During a conversation about anti-Semitism and racism on "CNN Tonight," Ioffe declared that Trump supporters condone heated rhetoric turning into hate.

“You can’t overestimate the power of the bully pulpit of a president. The things he says, and the things he doesn’t say and the ways in which he says them. The way in which he condemns racist, when you can see it’s so half-hearted. It’s like a kid being forced to do something,” Ioffe said. “It’s not just the freaks… it’s also, kind of, the silent majority of Trump supporters that think this is OK, that continue to support this president despite what he said.”

Ioffe then essentially said Trump supporters overlook hateful rhetoric in exchange for tax cuts as Lemon told her she “hit the nail on the head.”

CNN’s “Reliable Sources with Brian Stelter” newsletter – considered required reading by elite members of the mainstream media – did not mention Lemon’s controversial comments.

“The American Left, of which ‘objective journalist’ Lemon clearly is a leader, is good at only one thing -- psychological projection. Rather than contend with their own flaws, they accuse others of bearing them. Lemon and his ilk accuse President Trump of being racist and divisive, which serves as incredibly thin cover for their own racist, divisive rhetoric. The only good news here is that the American people increasingly see past the Left's psychological self-delusion and recognize these people as what they are… increasingly violent bigots,” Murdock said.

Actually Don Lemon is right about this and doubled down citing this report from the Government Accountability Office. And their data only goes back to 2016 and there have been many more domestic terrorist attacks by white men since. And they don't even count things like the school massacre in Parkland or the Las Vegas massacre. You can look at the numbers yourself but the characteristics are very familiar to anyone paying attention. In fact we can also see Trump pushing many of these same themes right now.

CNN’s Anderson Cooper busts Trump on his wild week of lies — including claiming fence repairs are ‘building the wall’

On Thursday, CNN’s Anderson Cooper slammed President Donald Trump and read off a laundry list of lies the president has spewed out.

Trump has toughened up his rhetoric on the caravan crisis ahead of the midterm election, even though it won’t reach the U.S-Mexico border for nearly two months.

Trump lied and said that there are nearly 25-30 million undocumented immigrants in America, even though the number is closer to 12 million.

Trump also lied about asylum seekers and the border wall.

“[He] claimed that only 3 percent of asylum seekers show up for their court hearings, according to the most Justice Department, 75 percent of [show up]” Cooper said. “So claiming only 3 percent of asylum seekers show up is completely not true. I mean, it could be funny if it was just some pundit making stuff up, but this is the president making stuff up.”

The president also said construction of his new border wall is underway. As we’ve shown you time and time again, it is not. They’re repairing existing fencing,” Cooper said.

GOP chair goes bonkers after Jake Tapper points out Trump’s racist video: ‘I know you want to change the subject’

Republican National Committee Chair Ronna Romney McDaniel was confronted by CNN host Jake Tapper on Sunday after she falsely insisted that Democrats had not tried to work with the President Donald Trump to pass a comprehensive immigration bill.

“[T]he president’s closing argument in the midterms is focused on fears of undocumented immigrants,” Tapper told McDaniel, noting that Trump had promoted a racist advertisement that is “factually, it’s not true.”

“Do you have any concerns at all about this web video?” Tapper asked.

“We don’t want people being deported and being criminals and then coming back into this country,” the GOP chair replied. “We know good people are trying to get into this country too. They see the prosperity, they see the economic growth.”

“We need to find a way to fix our immigration system” she continued. “Democrats won’t work with us.”

“You don’t have any issues at all [about the video]?” Tapper tried to say — but McDaniel spoke over him.

“To say [the president] is only focusing on one thing is false,” McDaniel opined.

“It’s factually inaccurate and it’s racially incendiary,” Tapper said of the video. “You don’t have any issue with that?”

“I have an issue with our immigration system that’s not being fixed,” McDaniel shot back. “And the Democrats won’t work with the president and we have caravans coming. In eight years, asylum claims are up 700 percent. By the way, what about the 12,000 kids that have come here unaccompanied?”

“You know what?” Tapper interrupted. “I completely agree with you that there needs to be a big immigration reform bill and Democrats and Republicans need to come together. President Trump is inaccurately blaming [Democrats] for putting a cop killer, for letting him into the country — for letting him into the country! The last time he came into the country was under George W. Bush!”

“Regardless, we don’t want him in the country!” McDaniel shouted. “This is exactly why our immigration system is failing.”

“Is it the Democrats fault?” Tapper queried.

“It’s a systemic failure,” McDaniel admitted.

“Yes!” Tapper exclaimed. “That’s true! It’s a systemic failure! That’s my point! It’s a systemic failure. Democrats and Republicans. That’s the failure but [Trump] blamed it all on Democrats.”

“But who is the party saying, let’s fix it, Jake?” McDaniel said. “Who’s the party solving every problem right now?”

The GOP chair then attempted to deflect attention to the economy.

“I know you want to change the subject,” Tapper smiled. “Republicans control the House, the Senate and the White House.”

“They should be fixing the immigration problem,” McDaniel ranted.

“Democrats — the minority party — should be fixing the immigration problem?” Tapper asked.

“We only have 51 senators,” McDaniel complained.

“It’s not the Senate,” Tapper observed. “You couldn’t get legislation through the House.”

“I do not see a single Democrat saying let’s bring this country together,” McDaniel griped, ignoring Tapper’s point. “They can’t even tout how good our country is doing right now.”

‘A lie’: Watch slow motion video of CNN’s Jim Acosta prove White House staffer touched him four times

The White House released a statement Wednesday making it sound as if CNN White House correspondent Jim Acosta “placing his hands” on a “young woman” without her consent. The video of the incident shows nothing of the sort. Indeed, the White House staffer was the one who touched Acosta without consent.

Raw Story slowed down the video and paused it on the incidents of contact showing the four impact zones. The first case, the White House staffer reached over Acosta’s arm, touching him as she reached for the microphone. She then is seen making a second go for the microphone over the top of Acosta’s arm where she touched him a second time.

The final encounter came when she reached under Acosta, who was gesturing to President Donald Trump at the time. The third impact zone was Acosta’s right hand, holding the microphone. Acosta can be seen pulling away and his left arm, gesturing toward the president, comes down as the White House staffer straightens her arm, making the fourth point of contact.

Acosta even went so far as to say, “excuse me, ma’am.”

The White House staffer couldn’t manage to grab the microphone away from Acosta, so she kneeled at his feet, only partially out of view from the cameras pointed toward the two of them.

While the White House has said they are banning Acosta, they have not said whether the White House staffer will be suspended for touching the reporter without consent.

White House Accused of Using Doctored Infowars Video to Justify Acosta Ban

The White House has been accused of using a doctored video made by far-right outlet Infowars to defend its decision Wednesday to revoke CNN reporter Jim Acosta’s press credentials. During a disagreement at a press conference, President Trump called Acosta a “rude, terrible person” and began to cut him off, but Acosta did not sit down or relinquish the microphone, even when an intern tried to pull it away. In the original footage, Acosta’s hand appeared to brush her arm and Acosta quickly said: “Pardon me, ma’am.” A 10:30 p.m. tweet by press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, however, shared footage that didn’t have the audio, zoomed in on Acosta’s arms, and had its speed altered—making the brush appear to be more aggressive. “We stand by our decision to revoke this individual’s hard pass,” Sanders said in her tweet of the video. “We will not tolerate the inappropriate behavior clearly documented in this video.”

Fox News host Howard Kurtz said on Thursday that while Jim Acosta‘s conduct at President Donald Trump‘s press briefing was out of line, it was a “misstep” for the White House to post a doctored video making it look like he was aggressive with an intern.

“I have never seen a White House correspondent just keep talking after having several questions, refusing to give up the mic,” Kurtz, Fox’s resident media expert, began. “But, with the White House escalating to DEFCON 1 and yanking the credentials, it’s kind of turning Jim Acosta into a journalistic martyr, many in the news business are standing behind him.”

“And it’s shifting the spotlight to what Acosta did to whether the Trump team overreacted,” he added.

Overreact they did. The White House suspended Acosta’s press credentials, and Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders posted a doctored video, first circulated by Infowars personalities, in an attempt to cast his interaction with a female White House intern as “inappropriate.”

“Yeah, I think it’s a misstep one the part of the White House to claim that Jim Acosta was laying his hands on this young intern who tried to take the mic away, the contact was very incidental,” Kurtz said. “I also think it was a misstep for Sarah Sanders to tweet out a doctored video, put out by Infowars, the Alex Jones conspiracy site, that kind of made it look more aggressive then it was.”

CNN’s John King came loaded for bear after President Trump’s unhinged press conference Friday morning, taking a wrecking ball to the president’s many lies, falsehoods, and personal attacks on his opponents.

CNN’s Jeffery Toobin slams Trump’s racist attacks on black reporters: These are not ‘random selections’ of people

On Friday, CNN commentator Jeffrey Toobin said that President Donald Trump’s latest attack on reporters all had one thing in common.

Trump has continued his attacks on reporters. On Friday, he called CNN reporter Abby Phillip’s question about the new acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker “a stupid question.”

He then called veteran White House reporter April Ryan “a loser.”

Toobin said that Trump clearly has a problem with black people since he has attacked Ryan, Phillip, and even CNN’s Don Lemon.

Toobin said that Trump has constantly attacked black people citing, LeBron James, Colin Kaepernick, and Andrew Gillum.

“There is a racial dimension to this. The idea that this was some random selection of journalists he doesn’t like is not the case. It’s always black people with this president,” he said.

Expert: Acosta video distributed by White House was doctored

NEW YORK (AP) -- A video distributed by the Trump administration to support its argument for banning CNN reporter Jim Acosta from the White House appears to have been doctored to make Acosta look more aggressive than he was during an exchange with a White House intern, an independent expert said Thursday.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders tweeted the video, which shows Acosta asking President Donald Trump a question on Wednesday as the intern tries to take his microphone away. But a frame-by-frame comparison with an Associated Press video of the same incident shows that the one tweeted by Sanders appears to have been altered to speed up Acosta's arm movement as he touches the intern's arm, according to Abba Shapiro, an independent video producer who examined the footage at AP's request.

Earlier, Shapiro noticed that frames in the tweeted video were frozen to slow down the action, allowing it to run the same length as the AP one.

The tweeted video also does not have any audio, which Shapiro said would make it easier to alter. It's also unlikely the differences could be explained by technical glitches or by video compression — a reduction in a video's size to enable it to play more smoothly on some sites — because the slowing of the video and the acceleration that followed are "too precise to be an accident," said Shapiro, who trains instructors to use video editing software.

Sanders, who hasn't said where the tweeted video came from, noted that it clearly shows Acosta made contact with the intern. In her statement announcing Acosta's suspension, she said the White House won't tolerate "a reporter placing his hands on a young woman just trying to do her job."

While the origin of the manipulated video is unclear, its distribution marked a new low for an administration that has been criticized for its willingness to mislead.

The White House News Photographers Association decried the sharing of the footage.

"As visual journalists, we know that manipulating images is manipulating truth," said Whitney Shefte, the association's president. "It's deceptive, dangerous and unethical. Knowingly sharing manipulated images is equally problematic, particularly when the person sharing them is a representative of our country's highest office with vast influence over public opinion."

CNN has labeled Sanders' characterization of Acosta's exchange with the intern as a lie. Its position has been supported by witnesses including Reuters White House correspondent Jeff Mason, who was next to Acosta during the news conference and tweeted that he did not see Acosta place his hands on the White House employee. Rather, he said he saw him holding on to the microphone as she reached for it.

"The irony of this White House video involving Jim Acosta is that if it is found to be doctored, it will show the administration to be doing what it accuses the news media of doing — engaging in fake information," said Aly Colon, a professor in journalism ethics at Washington & Lee University.

Several journalists and organizations — including the American Society of News Editors, the Associated Press Media Editors and the Online News Association — demanded Acosta's press pass be reinstated.

"It is the essential function of a free press in every democracy to independently gather and report information in the public interest, a right that is enshrined in the First Amendment," said Julie Pace, AP's Washington bureau chief. "We strongly reject the idea that any administration would block a journalist's access to the White House."

The New York Times editorialized in favor of restoring Acosta's pass, saying it signaled Trump's view that asking hard questions disqualifies reporters from attending briefings. The newspaper said that if Sanders was so offended by physical contact, "what did she have to say when her boss praised as 'my kind of guy' Rep. Greg Gianforte of Montana, who was sentenced to anger management classes and community service for body-slamming a Guardian reporter last spring?"

CNN has been a frequent target of the president, who has characterized journalists as enemies of the people and who routinely accuses the mainstream media of spreading "fake news." And Acosta has been one of the more visible thorns in the side of the White House. During their verbal altercation on Wednesday, Trump called Acosta a "terrible person."

Still, it's rare for the White House to pull the so-called hard passes from journalists.

During Lyndon Johnson's presidency, the Secret Service denied clearance to Robert Sherrill, a reporter for The Nation who had gotten into physical fights with government officials. During the George W. Bush presidency, Trude Feldman, who worked for various news outlets, was suspended for 90 days after security cameras recorded her looking through a press aide's desk late one night. In the 1970s, President Nixon tried to get Washington Post reporters banned from the White House.

Despite losing his White House pass, Acosta is expected to travel to Paris this weekend to cover Trump's trip to meet with world leaders.

What hypocrites.
The public has had to endure "doctored" photos and clever editing from the media for decades. The Times cover photo of OJ Simpson comes to mind, as well as intentionally unflattering photos and video of politicians.

What is not in dispute is that Acosta refused to give up the microphone when the intern tried to take it from him. He apparently thought his theatrics were important enough that being aggressive with an intern would be just fine.

Apparently, despicables think so as well.

Acosta is a fucking arrogant bully who has, for a long time, inserted himself into stories as opposed to reporting them. He has no business calling himself a reporter.

That is the real story here.
