The NYT article was about communication with Russia. We know there was communication with Russia because Flynn was fired over it.

You really do not understand how intelligence works or what the difference between wiretap and surveillance is.

If there is a foreign target under surveillance and their communications is being collected and you call, text, or email the person; your information will be collected as well. You will be unmasked if there is suspected criminal activity.

Per all Republicans and Democrats on the Intelligence Committee in Congress and Senate, there was no wiretap.
