From what you have posted on this forum, you can't even identify with the left very well.

However, being that you are a Democrat, what makes you think you can speak for Republicans regardless of economic status?

@tenguy, you know that isn't true. The election of Barack Obama was a sign we were ready to try putting the worst of our past behind us and accept that we could be better than we have.

Then Trump took the idea that maybe Obama wasn't quite really an American by becoming the face and primary motivator of the Birther conspiracy loonies, and suddenly being a racist, homophobe and bigot was acceptable, at least in the minds of his demented followers.

He has never to my knowledge made a sincere effort to back away from that, and his behavior directly correlates with the empowerment felt by the Alt-Right. No one would have believed that running a car into a group of people no matter their political beliefs would be an acceptable form of reply without Trump's rallies where he constantly exhorted the crowd to commit violence against his detractors and the press, saying he had their backs if they did.

Ms Meyers was a peaceful protester and was murdered for it. And Trump owned it by saying there were good people "on both sides", ignoring the fact that "good people" don't commit murder with an automobile or any other weapon. Certainly they don't do it in this country over political differences, not matter how Kushner's friends in other countries or how his Puti-Poo act.

No. My ideals inform my judgement. And you are ignoring history and it's consequences. Nothing happens in a vacuum. Without Trump the Alt-Right would be a largely unknown and ignored fringe movement. He gave them a national voice by bringing Steve Bannon into the White House and by making the Birthers into a household word.

It is incredibly amusing go me to watch the Trump supporters try to deny reality and suspend disbelief that the Democrats didn't really win anything. When Democratic wins are happening even before they officially take over. Because the handwriting is on the wall and they know it. And it takes a real blind parrot Trump supporter not to see it.

Three weeks ago, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) raised a few eyebrows with some candid comments about his plans for the next session of Congress. Despite the Affordable Care Act’s growing popularity, the Republican leader told Reuters that his party would likely try to repeal “Obamacare” if given the chance.

It would, McConnell added referring to the midterm elections, “depend on what happens in a couple weeks.”

Exactly three weeks later, the Kentucky lawmaker looked at the election results and came to a very different conclusion about what’s possible. The Washington Post reported:

For eight years, Republicans waged a war against Barack Obama’s health-care law, holding dozens of repeal votes, filing lawsuits and branding it a dangerous government takeover.

On Wednesday, they effectively surrendered.

The day after crushing midterm election losses handed Democrats control of the House, `

McConnell specifically told reporters, “I think it’s pretty obvious, the Democratic House is not going to be interested in that,” referring to possible ACA repeal.

The Senate Republican leader added that lawmakers could tackle health care policy “on a bipartisan basis.”

I know better than to expect such an outcome, but that’s not crazy. Congress could, in theory, approve some fairly obvious and non-ideological fixes to the current system, which would help consumers, strengthen markets, and be politically popular.

But putting pipe dreams aside, one of the major questions in the immediate aftermath of the 2016 elections was how quickly Republicans, controlling all of the levers of federal power, would tear down the Affordable Care Act. In the immediate aftermath of the 2018 elections, those concerns are now gone.

This is not to say the broader threats are over. As we discussed the other day, the Trump administration will still take steps to further undermine “Obamacare,” and a Republican judge in Texas is poised to try to gut the law any day now.

But at a minimum, the public won’t have to spend the next two years wondering whether Congress will strip families of their health security.

Yet, I don't recall you saying anything about Obama's war on cops. He'd been demonizing since he got in office. From his "the police acted stupidly" in July of 2009, to implying racism was in play when Michael Brown was shot (he wasn't helping little old ladies to cross the street after church when he was shot).

There are few things in this world where there are actually more than one set of facts and truth. What you have are people either unintentionally skewing that truth due to ignorance, or intentionally doing so to try to convince others that they and what they want are right. Those individuals oft times try to merge black and white until it is a shade of gray, the intent to pull it that much farther toward their desires.

Me, I'm not that smart. Black is black, white is white, and extenuating circumstances simply shift that black or white one way or another on a scale. Just because someone thinks this is right, or wants it as their opinion and thus, claim that they're being disrespected if you do not agree with their opinion or shut up about it, is simply flatly wrong. I simply state the way things are. I'm not bright enough to maneuver and weasel things into that shade of gray to try and shift opinion one way or the other.

However, if anyone doesn't like what I have to say, wanting to claim it is simply opinion, then they are more than welcome to ignore me. This gray mare is too old to change. Ain't happenin'.

Laurie Roberts is no bleeding heart liberal. The conservative columnist for the Arizona Republic has been deemed “the queen of mean” for her often extreme rightwing positions.

But, in a new column, Roberts is chiding Republicans in her state for the way they’re responding to Democrat Kyrsten Sinema’s commanding 20,000-vote lead over Republican Martha McSally in the state’s Senate race.

“Republican Party officials and, of course, even President Donald Trump, are working themselves into an absolute lather over a nefarious Democratic scheme to steal the election,” she writes.

Roberts is annoyed that Republicans have already taken the results to court to throw out votes despite the count not even being final yet.

She is defending the Democrat counting the ballots, mocking Republicans for attacking the official for “allowing eligible voters to vote – AND for those votes to actually count.”

“Given the GOP hysterics, it was clear that things were reeeeally bad for McSally, who took a slim lead early on but steadily lost ground through the week as early ballots continued to be counted,” Roberts writes. “If McSally loses, it seems, it must be because Democrats stole the race.”

I'd I'm not mistaken (I'd have to see each posting in context to be sure) in the first cherry you picked we were discussing the current price of fuel (during Obama's third year in office - wow, going for the 'But Obama!' weren't you?) and I did mention that even though fuel prices had not dropped to Clinton era prices they were at least far below those of the central to late Bush price gouging. Which was, I belive, appropriate when taken in context.

In the second I think I was mentioning that even though I regularly referred to W as a buffoon, he at least respected and understood the gravity of the Office he was entrusted with. Unlike the current occupant of the White House. Again, appropriate in context.

You and others here seem to grab for it like a toddler grabbing for a bottle, unable to wean yourself from it and grow up enough to see the damage your Trump enabling does, like you're tripping on the extacy of being past the days when a black man slept in your White Man's House.

Filmaker Michael Moore on Thursday praised the Democratic Party for winning big in the midterm elections during an appearance on MSNBC’s “The Last Word” with Lawrence O’Donnell.

“It is an amazing victory,” Moore concluded.

“All the points you just made were right on, especially the point that this victory on Tuesday was larger than the Tea Party victory in 2010,” Moore noted. “Larger than the huge wave where the Democrats took over Congress in 2006.”

Top Oversight Dem: I won't be issuing subpoenas like 'candy on Halloween'

Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), who is slated to become chairman of the House Oversight Committee in the new Congress, said on Sunday that he does not plan to issue subpoenas like “candy on Halloween.”

"I'm not one to war with anyone. What I am going to do is do what the American people said they wanted us to do through this election – even in Trump country. They basically are saying that we want transparency, we want honesty, and we want integrity. But they want something else George, they want accountability with regard to this president," Cummings told host George Stephanopoulos on ABC’s “This Week.”

“That’s exactly what I’m going to do if I’m blessed to have that opportunity and this is what the Constitution requires of us. We’re going to do our part,” he added.

Cummings said, however, that will not be "handing out subpoenas" like someone "handing out candy on Halloween.”

“I take subpoenas very seriously. And I plan to, if I have to use them, they will be used in a very methodical way and it must be in the public interest," he said.

The House majority won in last week’s midterms gives Democrats subpoena and investigatory power, posing potential headaches for the White House.

President Trump last Wednesday threatened to respond to any House Democratic efforts to investigate the White House, saying he would counter with investigations “at the Senate level.”

*"If the Democrats think they are going to waste Taxpayer Money investigating us at the House level, then we will likewise be forced to consider investigating them for all of the leaks of Classified Information, and much else, at the Senate level. Two can play that game!" Trump tweeted.

“We’ve got a lot to do," Cummings said on Sunday, adding that he is “laser-focused” on issues including prescription drug prices and protecting those pre-existing health conditions.

But I also want to look at things like the census. We are having some problems right now with regard to the Trump administration wanting to put in a citizenship question, which we know will discourage people from participating in the census," he added later. "Again, we’ve got to look at things like voter suppression. We cannot have a country where we do -- where we have -- it becomes normal to do everything in Trump’s power to stop people from voting."

Cummings also said he wants to look at possible violations of the emoluments clause of the Constitution, which prohibits elected officials from receiving gifts or benefits from foreign governments without congressional approval.

"I think there are probably many of them. We want to look at things like the FBI building fiasco where the president injected himself into that debate as to where it would be located -- we think for his benefit. We got to figure out when is he acting on behalf of the American people in a lot of his decisions or is he acting on his own behalf. But there’s something else that we’ve got to do," he said.

"The president has two years left in his term. He spent almost his entire campaign talking about our infrastructure. We have to sit down -- he says -- he claims -- he claims he wants to work with us. We need to sit down and address the issue of infrastructure. We’ve got bridges and roads that need to be repaired and we’ve got to do that -- and we can do that.
