Random question, idk if it's entirely off topic, but I've notice in your sig it says you're Deaf (capitalized). I have nearly 100% hearing loss in my left ear and moderate hearing loss in my right ear. I don't really identify as Deaf (the capitalization is important!), but I'm certainly going deaf. What is the nature of your deafness, if you don't mind my asking? Do you consider yourself part of the Deaf culture?

I have been diagnosed with Meniere's disease, I have spells of vertigo (I don't drive for this reason), and my hearing is sometimes better or worse on certain days. Because the hearing loss is rather one sided, I have trouble locating small sources of sound like if someone's phone is ringing. I can hear very well if I'm listening to a single source of sound, such as a person speaking, but if there are two or more sounds competing for attention, it becomes very difficult to understand either.

 

i was born deaf. i grew up in a world of silence. not hearing. but i am proud of my deaf heritage. when you're doing very important things for some people, it tends to be part of the history that shaped the world through our actions.
