I was forced into therapy for over a decade. It drove me into a suicidal depression, drug and alcohol abuse. I'm still dealing with the effects of the depression (it comes and goes). The doctor I was forced to see is still allowed to practice and I received no apologies for what was done to me.
I don't believe it works. I'd rather trust family (cant trust any of mine) or friends. Getting help from people you know is better than dealing with someone who only cares about how much money they can milk from you.

 

QUESTION;

What exactly are you attempting to accomplish for yourself to live the life that you want?...by seeing a therapist?

 

Therapy does work, but all the things the therapist is going to tell you you already know yourself, you just need to come to terms with them and accept them.

 

as with anything in life you will get just as much out of therapy as you are willing to put into it
if you dont trust the person or arent comfortable with them you will never be honest
first 5 questions to ask should be simple
what about males created a fear reaction in you?
is this fear based on attraction/ sex or culture/ societal differences and expectations?
are you fearing a true connection with them or rejection or violence?
have you had previous bad or negative experience with men or even boys/ were you abused?
does this fear in any way hamper everyday interactions at school or work or even in general daily activities?

understanding the reason for the fear is more important that the fear its self

 

In my opinion, the only person who can help is you. However, if a therapist can get you to help yourself, then they are helping you in a roundabout way.
But it's all up to you.

 

Anybody that goes to see a therapist needs their head examined.

to see if my therapist can get me comfortable around men, but i just quit therapy last week so never mind

woman but my parish priest is a man and i talk to him a lot.

i don't trust men's hands, so my parish priest is no problem.
anyone male that's nonromantic is ok.
but males on dates are romantic, so can't date them
but i've had 8 romantic girlfriends and no problem

I'm not sure I've read a more ignorant thing about therapy and the motivations/success rate of those who choose it. Just Wow.

I went to once a week group therapy after returning from Vietnam. Nothing serious, I just missed the adrenalin. Two years later, and I was better. It sure helped me.
