Can't seem to truly be me with real friends....I wish I could just be open about who I really am....anyone else feel this way?

Being myself is all I have at the end of the day and those who know me well are aware I'm very open, I know also how to tone down my personality when I'm in a mixed social situation

My friends know who I am. No one else matters.

 

I know who I am, so I don't feel I have to be on display as my inner self at all times. I enjoy "behaving like a nice girl" in social situations, all the while knowing the true rebellious slut inside waiting her turn.

Took me awhile to be who I am now. I was a hypocrite and scared to reveal my sexuality to others. Now I openly talk about it and challenge others who question me.

 

I felt like this for years.

 

I feel your pain my friend. I even feel like a hypocrite for the things I say just to hide my true identity. This site had helped me release some of my frustration though. And I've met some good people who are just like me. Keep your head up.

 

I guess I just haven't figured out the balance yet :/

 

If you can achieve inner peace, or at peace with yourself, the outside doesn't matter. My choice/situation is the social norm, whatever the fuck that is. Everyone that knows me, knows I am not homophobic, but, I never act on it unless in the right place. I'm very content with what I like. Some people feel they must stand atop a mountain and hear me roar, I'm not that guy. But, this is just my spin, good luck! : )

 

I was wondering who one is truly is, along the same lines. Are you your real self with friends, with family? With a mask or without? When your inhibitions are weakened due to being under the influence or anger? Are you you in the light or the darkness?
I am good at wearing mask and hiding my thoughts, had to be for a long time.
It is lonely.

Ask speak up.my has been 20 years just did the same thing to me and it was alwaysmy fault the wrong thing to say never acted onGot ignore and neglect..now left with cancer...and he is absolutely vindictive and angry and that does me no good and my marriage is over I'm crushed active and blames me and is messed with my head now do what you need to do people are not honest and NEED TO communicate

 

What I am talking about is that a small group of people know I am bi, an atheist, and that I am okay with polygamy. And oh, the "perverse" thoughts I have constantly.
I have this outward persona of being a somewhat-distant intellectual. A bit curt and cynical, but otherwise kind. Speaking only when I actually have something to say, ext. My dream is to be a Justice of the Supreme Court of the US.
All of these things do not mix, not now anyway. To follow my dream, I have to hide part of myself to get what I want. I am not ashamed, I am worried. To think that the "land of opportunity" would shut people out because they go against the grain is not a fun prospect.

Yeah I mean, the thing is I'm never truly myself no matter where I am or who I'm with. My job certainly wouldn't appreciate my sex drive or the things I am into...it's very difficult and all my perceived opinions about how others will feel doesn't allow me to be myself. I don't even go out and be me in my free time...very lonely feeling. Thank you all for your input and comments and I look forward to chatting with all of you.

 

I am myself, although I do alter my looks, when I am way far from home, but that's what scares the crap out of me sometimes.
