Hi ,pretty new to this and although i spend most of the time on the smuttier side(no excuses) of the forums ,there are some really interesting stuff to read and this is probably a bit boring but what is the earliest memory you guys remember and how vivid is it?

 

It goes back much further than most of you.. My biggest fond memories come from the share-cropper days of our family.. The farm that we worked on was a major producer of Strawberrys, the planter was a horse drawn piece of machinery, that had two shallow running plows that ran in the soil, spreading it slightly, and we would reach down with a strawberry plant and put into that opening, and as the rear wheel came over it the soil was pushed back together.. In one, could have been disasterous, I fell off and was run over by the rear wheel.. See I was young and a little short especially in the arms,, and had to lean over further...

The thing that I found the most interest in was during harvest migrant workers would come and help with the harvest. Gypsies they were called, and the word stuck for fifty years. Now I know that they were mexican, that lived a gypsie life style..

At harvest time they would come in their beat up trucks, cars, and wagons. ( right out of Grapes Of Wrath). Mom and Dad would tell me to stay away from them, They were different, spoke a different lanuage, and lived much dirrerently than us..... They were allowed to camp and live in our barnyard. They always cooked over an open fire, In by eyes they were OK If mom and dad went to town, I would sneak out to them and ask questions, and they would try to answer.. usually there was a few that could talk my lanuage.. Midwest.

My grandmother, who lived with us, finally said the thing that kept me from further association.. She did not do it on purpose. But one day I ask what they were eating, and she said probably mostly pork, but then she causually added, "they some times eat stray dogs" From that day on I kept a close leash on my prize German Sheperd dog..

My age at the time.. 3-4-5, after that we moved to another farm..

What I think is my earliest memory is having a picnic in a park on a hill near where I lived. I remember trying to walk around and falling over a lot, but the clearest detail was the boys who were flying a kite nearby.
I can still feel that magical awe and fascination that only a small child can feel about simple things.
My mother has a very small b/w photo that she thinks was taken on that day.......I'm wearing a huge nappy (diaper) and was probably about 18months old.

 

Don't know if this is THE earliest but it is one when I was 3 - we were about to move house and walked round to view. I though we were moving there and then and piled all my toys into a wooden wheelbarrow and shoved them round there (and back). You'd think my parents would have told me!

 

I'll have to give you my second earliest memory first, becuase there is a slight problem with my earliest memory.
My second earliest memory is when I was about two years old and we were standing in the doorway of a barn watching my grandpa and another man working with a horse. When all of a sudden the horse just blew up. It started bucking and kicking with it's ears laid back, and even trying to bite my grandpa. Splinters flew when it's hooves hit the sides of the barn and sounded like thunder, and it was deadly serious about doing bodily harm to the humans abound it. It was panderlerium as Jeff Foxworthy says. Both my grandma and my mother tried to grab me and get me out of the way at the same time, and instead crashed into each other and missed me because this was the best show I'd been to and had no intention of leaving.
The problem with my earliest memory is even though it's just as vivid and has been with me all my life, the memory is of my great grandmother holding me in the most sure and powerful hands I've ever felt and welcomeing to the family. The problem is there is a picture of her looking into my basonet when she visited at that time and I'm only four days old. I'm still pondering that one myself.

 

You Knew I Couldn't Resist It

I remember sitting in a 12 x 15 washbasin being bathed. I remember:

the bandage when I was circumsized, peeing, and asking my mother how long I had to keep it on.

when I was small enough to fit under a chair. Thinking, wonder what they would do if they couldn't find me. Getting under the chair in a corner of the very large room 50 x 20, and watching them hunt for me. I still have the chair, or rather my son does. I don't think I could have been over 2 to fit.

Oh yes, I feigned sleep when they found me. I NEVER TOLD ANY OF THEM ABOUT THIS. Who says infants and toddlers can't think, plot, joke.

my father holding me up to touch the ceiling, 18mo to 30mo likely.

standing up in the seat by my grandfather, (the same chair, by the way), and asking him if I could taste his beer.Checking a ruler, I couldn't have been over 26 inches tall.

sitting in little tub in the backyard playing with my cellulose fish. The first fish I ever saw. (No plastics in those days. I guess a year to 2yrs.

Thank you for this delightful thread. Not my memory, but one of my students, 12yrs old, a lovely girl told me she could "remember coming out" of her mother.

But I have known people who say they just can't remember anything before they were 6.

 

My earliest memory was, I was about 2 and was watching my dad shaving, then my mom called me to breakfest and I ate Co-Co Puffs cereal. Then my dad left for work and I finished my cereal then I went to the bathroom climbed onto the sink and tried to shave but instead of a razor I used my mother's bobbiepin to shave with. Classic huh.

Some scientists actually belive that during and after childbirth, the baby is so traumatised that it doesn't remeber the event or anything after it until about a year later (aka 1 year old babies start to remeber memories).

 

okay then ummmm...

my earliest memory, well I have two and I'm not sure which one comes first.

Both of them are from when I lived in MA and the first one is going like a mile down the road from our condo to visit a farm with horses, sheep, and various other animals. My second one is from I think when I was about 1 1/2, and it was going to the beach which was about 20 minutes away from our condo. I remember how rocky it was and I remember seeing the ocean for the first time in my life and how different it and sand felt. Other than that it's pretty much bits and pieces

 

I think they are full of shit. Re my student that remembers being born.

 

I was very young but I'm not sure how old I was. There was a big oak tree outside my bedroom window. I remember having shades on the window and at night I could see the tree branches through the shades. Of course, being very young, I thought there were monsters out there. My father would come in and try to explain it to me, but I was just sure it had to be a monster.

I don't rememeber much before age 11. It's all way to fuzzy. Heck, even 3 years ago is fuzzy.

 

To a little kid it was scary. It's funny now but I've never forgotten it.

okay another memory I have is when I was about 3 and getting a batman raincoat and some legos for my bday. There back on topic *whew*

 

Totally serious, and nothing to do with sex.

My first memory is of the road outside my house, with a table, running the length of the road, and covered in a white tablecloth. It was a party of some kind. The whole street was there, and I can remember sitting outside my house, opposite a girl - older than me - who was wearing a white dres with a pink sash.

This memory was very vivid, and when I described it to my parents in response to a "what is your earliest memory ?" question they were surprised, but confirmed every detail. It was the end-of war (WW2) victory celebrations, and I was 23 months old. (The little girl's name was Hilary Lawrence, and her family moved away before I was 3 !)

oh and I thought of another one, when I was 3, I was chasing my older bro around the house because of whatever reason and jumped at him over my sofa and crashed right into a lamp. Only got a few scrapes but boy were my parents pissed
