Trying it without lube was exceptionally brave of you but crazy!

It is possible for women to not need lube (or to be self-lubricating if the moisture runs down from the front first). But it's very rare and probably not very wise anyway given the possibility of causing tiny abrasions.

Some women love anal sex and practically prefer it, some love it some of the time, some enjoy it some of the time, some can endure it occasionally while others simply can't take it. It's impossible to say yet where on that continuum you are.

If you want to enjoy the experience and get into it, my advice is to take as long as necessary to get used to your arse being a sexual organ first.

OK here's a masterclass on teaching a woman how to have and enjoy anal sex. Male POV, necessarly. The general principles are (a) lube, lube and more lube (b) s-l-o-w-l-y (c) the woman is acclimatised to coming with things in her arse, not lying there and getting rammed.

1. Start by licking and tongue-fucking her arsehole a lot, to get her used to the idea of it being an erogenous zone.

2. Bring her off with conventional oral sex while gently pressuring her arsehole with a well moistened finger or thumb. Work up over several sessions to pushing in, as she gets used to it. Build up that again to a couple of fingers.

3. Lie her on her tummy, put a hand under her fanny and bring her off with your fingers while going at her arsehole with your tongue.

4. Bend her over, open her up with your tongue and fingers, push massive amounts of lube into her arse with your fingers, lube up a moderate width dildo which does not have a pointy end and SLOWLY work it in. Don't stick it all in, just a couple of inches will do. Then, when she's got her breath back, start working it gently in and out while massaging her clit with your other hand. After a while, flip her over onto her back and bring her off with your tongue while the dildo is still in her arse. You can rock it back and forth gently while you are licking.
