Fox News anchor Bret Baier says Trump was ‘clearly’ not being truthful in his Fox & Friends interview

Fox News anchor Bret Baier on Friday said that President Donald Trump had not been truthful during an interview with his network.

The chief political anchor was reporting on news that the chief financial officer of the Trump Organization had been granted immunity by federal prosecutors

“You wonder if he may have known when he was sitting with [Fox & Friends host] Ainsley Earhardt about this or the possibility of this when he was talking about that flipping sentence,” Baier said.

During Earhardt’s interview, Trump said that flipping “almost ought to be illegal.” The president also denied that he knew about payments that his longtime attorney, Michael Cohen, had made to his alleged mistresses.

It is unclear whether Weisselberg told prosecutors that Trump had knowledge of those payments. But in making his guilty plea, Cohen said that the payments were made with Trump’s knowledge. Trump was also caught on tape discussing with Cohen how to pay off a Playboy model’s story about an alleged affair.

“I mean, the president’s rollout of explaining this has not been clear,” Baier said. “The Washington Post says it’s a flat out lie in their fact-checking. I think you could look back at the statements and clearly he was not 100 percent truthful as he laid that out. You’ve got his answer to Ainsley Earhardt, saying he knew later on.”

Here’s why Fox News reporters are fleeing the network

Two Fox News reporters in the last three weeks have departed from the network, reportedly after feeling frustrated with the cable news giant’s direction and tone in the Trump era.

Adam Housley, a Los Angeles-based reporter who had been a part of the network since 2001, plans to depart the network soon. Two former Fox News employees told Politico that Housley complained of a decline in opportunity for non-pundit personalities.

“He’s not doing the type of journalism he wants to be doing,” one of the former employees said. “And he is unhappy with the tone of the conversation of the channel.”

Conor Powell, who served as Middle East correspondent at Fox News for nine years, reportedly left Fox News for similar reasons. Powell’s former colleague and friend told Politico that the reporter felt like network had moved away from news in favor of opinion.

Both Powell and Housley’s reasons for leaving the network after years of working there, signal frustration over a network that seemed to marginalize the news and those who were reporting it, a problem that has become increasingly unbearable with President Donald Trump in office.

“Conor was growing increasingly embarrassed by the channel, by the positions, by the relentless blind defense of Trump,” Powell’s colleague told Politico. “If you’re overseas and doing important work like Conor was, you can certainly focus on the work and tell yourself, ‘Hey I’m doing important things and I’m just going to focus on this and ignore all the rest.’ But it just became impossible to ignore.”

Though former employees said Housley had cited similar objections to the direction of the network under Trump, his exit statement was more diplomatic. He released a statement via a Fox News spokesperson that said:

After nearly two decades at Fox News, I have decided to leave the network and take some time in northern California to raise our two young children closer to my family, which includes running the family winery and even coaching their sports teams. I could not be more proud of the journalism I did at the network, from war zones, to tsunamis, to watching miners pulled from the ground in Chile, I am grateful for the extraordinary opportunities to have a front seat to history and cover news all over the world. A huge thank you to the many Fox employees, especially behind the scenes, who have supported me every step of the way. We are friends for life.

But reportedly, unrest at the network is shared widely by reporters. “Many Fox News employees I talked to would jump at an opportunity to leave if there was one, just out of frustration,” a former employee told Politico. “There is a frustration with being tied to the Trump administration. At the end of the day, journalists want to report facts.”

“Lots of reporters are very unhappy with directions of FNC [Fox News Channel] right now,” an individual close to Powell told the Wrap. “Fewer news shows. More opinion shows. Less resources for reporters to report.”

However, it’s unclear what avenues are even open to former Fox News employees once they leave. Neither Housley nor Powell have new jobs in media. In fact, in Powell’s farewell statement posted to Facebook, he said: “After nearly 9 years I have decided to resign from Fox News. Those of you who have spoken to me in recent months, you will understand why I am leaving FNC. . . If anyone knows of any jobs in media and journalism please contact me.”

The kind of conservatism propagated by FOX News and Rush Limbaugh only resonates in the United States. Ayn Rand was only popular in the United States. I doubt that any of her books were translated into other languages.

An American liberal can move to any affluent democracy and feel at home. An American conservative has nowhere else to go.

Florida attorney general slammed for ‘auditioning’ to be a Fox News host while still in office

Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi is receiving criticism at home for “auditioning” for Fox News while serving in elected office.

The Miami Herald reports that the Republican A.G. flew to New York City for three days of hosting “The Five” on the cable television network.

“Call it an audition of sorts for Bondi, who wraps up her two terms as attorney general in January. Cable television is often considered one of several potential landing spots for Bondi, according to her friends and political allies,” the Herald reported.

One Fox News personality even publicly praised Bondi for the tryout.

“While at Fox News studios, she also appeared on Sean Hannity’s show. Hannity congratulated Bondi on the co-hosting position,” the Herald noted.

In a statement to the Tampa Bay Times, Fox News claimed that the Florida Commission on Ethics, “cleared Pam Bondi to appear as a co-host of The Five and travel to New York.”

Fox News did not respond to the Herald‘s request to list any precedent for an elected official hosting a show on the network.

‘What is he talking about?’ Fox News’ Shep Smith erupts over Trump’s rambling attack on Google and Facebook

Donald Trump met with FIFA executives to celebrate North America’s successful bid to host the World Cup in 2026.

Afterwards, Trump took questions—and maintained again that Mexico will pay for a border wall, as he promised in the 2016 election.

“The wall will be paid for, very easily. By Mexico. It will ultimately be paid for by Mexico,” Trump said.

Then Trump went into a confused and rambling rant about social media and search.

“Google is really taking advantage of a lot of people, and I think that’s a very serious thing,” Trump claimed. “What Google and others are doing—if you look at what’s going on at Twitter, if you look at what’s going on at Facebook—they better be careful because you can’t do that to people. We have tremendous—we literally thousands and thousands of complaints come in, and you just can’t do that. Google and Twitter and Facebook, they’re really treading on troubled territory and they have to be careful”

Fox News host Shep Smith reacted after airing the clip.

“Mexico will pay for the wall, as we all know,” Smith said mockingly.

Smith then asked a correspondent to explain what Trump’s confused rambling rant was about.

“This new thing—today’s new thing. Not a thing, but a thing,” Smith said. “Which means nothing…. What is he talking about? ‘Treading on troubled territory.’ ‘You can’t do that.’ Do what to people?”

Trump’s beef is with the news, because he tends to be criticized for his poor management of the country and allegations of corruption.

“It seems to be the news itself, because around there it’s not good. The fake news tends to be pretty good to him, the real news tends to be pretty unpleasant,” Smith said.

Those who bray loudest about their love for the United States turn out to hate a high percentage of people who live in the United States, even American citizens. Sarah Palin exposed this attitude when she said that she liked to stay in "pro America" parts of the country. Presumably people who live in cities like San Francisco and New York are not real Americans.

The House Committee on Un-American Activities betrayed this attitude with its name. Can you imagine a Committee on Un-Canadian Activities, or a Committee on un Mexican activities? I can't either.

Fortunately, HUAC no longer exists. Nevertheless, for several decades it kept a sharp look out for un American activities, which usually consisted of doing things that were protected by the First Amendment.

Fox News reporter: Conservatives would have exploded if Obama had acted like Trump

On Thursday morning, President Donald Trump once again railed against the media on Twitter, posting “The hatred and extreme bias of me by @cnn has clouded their thinking and made them unable to function,” he wrote. “But actually, as I have always said, this has been going on for a long time. Little Jeff Z has done a terrible job, his ratings suck, & AT&T should fire him to save credibility!”

The president’s latest rant gave Fox News media critic Howard Kurtz pause.

“The president of the United States should not be calling for the firing of two heads of private companies simply because he disagrees with and doesn’t like their media coverage of him,” Kurtz said. “It’s using the bully pulpit in a way that feels like a personal grudge, especially in the case of Jeff Zucker, who had been on leave after surgery for serious heart problems.”

“If President Obama had said, ‘Hey, Fox News, you should get rid of Roger Ailes, because I think their coverage of me is unfair, it would have been an explosion on the right.'”

Fox News’ Kurtz on Trump Attacking CNN, NBC Chiefs: Imagine If Obama Went After Ailes Like That

Fox News’ Howard Kurtz said today it seems like President Donald Trump may have crossed a line with his latest attack against CNN’s Jeff Zucker and NBC’s Andy Lack.

In two tweets recently, Trump went after both networks––CNN for the Lanny Davis report controversy, NBC for the President’s weird accusation that Lester Holt was “caught fudging my tape on Russia.”

“Donald has every right to to hit back at what he sees as unfair media coverage, including, perhaps especially, this flawed CNN story,” Kurtz said, “but does the President of the United States go too far calling for two executives at private companies to be fired because he doesn’t like the media coverage?”

The Federalist’s Mollie Hemingway said there’s certainly issues both networks are facing, but agreed it’s not appropriate for Trump to weigh in.

Susan Ferrechio, Washington Examiner chief congressional correspondent, noted the back-and-forth sparring between Trump and the press that’s “devolved to a boxing match.”

Kurtz then noted, “If President Obama, who took lots of shots at Fox News, had said, ‘Hey, Fox News, you ought to get rid of Roger Ailes because I think the coverage is so unfair,’ what would have been the reaction on the right?”

Fox News political analyst warns America is being run by a conservative Senate ‘cabal’

“America’s politics are being run by a cabal in the Senate that fails to represent 82 percent of the American people,” Fox News political analyst Juan Williams says, writing in an opinion column at The Hill.

Williams cites Cook Political Report editor David Wasserman to support his claim.

“A majority of the Senate now represents just 18 percent of the nation’s population,” Wasserman wrote at The New York Times.

Williams, who frequently offers viewers something of a more left-leaning position than most Fox News pundits and hosts provide, adds, “the 18 percent controlling the Senate have their own right-wing agenda beyond protecting an unpopular president.”

And he warns that if conservative Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, whose confirmation hearings begin the week, makes it to the nation’s highest court, Senate Republicans “will cement a conservative majority on the court for decades in an act that might be described as tyranny.”

Williams notes that the majority of the nation supports abortion rights and ObamaCare, and a plurality oppose Trump’s border and immigration policies and his tax cuts for the wealthy. Yet conservatives in Congress along with President Trump are poised to go against the will of the people and take away a woman’s right to choose, and the right to affordable healthcare, while advancing the president’s unpopular policies

He sums up:

“The lives of over 300 million Americans are being affected by policies foisted on them by a Senate ‘majority’ that represents less than one-fifth of them and a president who was elected with three million fewer votes than his opponent.”

The hosts of “Fox & Friends” on Tuesday appeared visibly deflated after legal analyst Andrew Napolitano told them that President Donald Trump’s latest tweets attacking Attorney General Jeff Sessions would provide “fodder” for special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe.

In particular, Napolitano turned a critical eye to Trump’s tweet attacking Sessions for letting the Department of Justice file charges against Reps. Chris Collins (R-NY) and Duncan Hunter (R-CA), who were respectively indicted on charges related to insider trading and campaign finance fraud.

The Fox analyst said it seemed inappropriate for Trump to weigh in and say the DOJ should not be investigating his congressional allies because it could hurt the party in the midterm elections.

“This is evidence of serious crime here,” Napolitano said. “And there can’t be two standards: One for members of Congress — Republican members of Congress — and one for others. It is the duty of the Justice Department to prosecute crimes when they find them and to bring indictments when a grand jury has decided there’s enough evidence there.”

Later in the segment, Napolitano said that such tweets could be used by Mueller to potentially prove corrupt intent in an obstruction of justice charge.

“When the president says these things — basically, ‘I want to you use Justice Department to help the Republican Party’ — that is fodder for the cannon of Bob Mueller,” he said.

Fox News host brutally fact-checks Eric Trump as he repeats dad’s lies about the Obama economy

Eric Trump appeared on a Fox News podcast on Thursday where he denied basic facts about the Obama economy and argued with the host about basic statistics about the economy under President Obama.

Eric Trump started by repeating his father’s lies about the economy growing an unprecedented rate.

“Name a quantifiable measure in our society that’s not better off now than it was 20 months ago,” Trump said.

“When you say it’s the fastest-growing economy we’ve ever had, that’s not really the case,” host Dave Anthony said. “Even during the Obama administration… Obama had growth of 5 percent.”

“I don’t actually think he had 5 percent quarters,” Eric Trump claimed.

“He did, he had a 5 percent quarter,” Anthony said.

“Alright, I would go back and check that very carefully,” Eric Trump said.

Eric Trump then claimed that Obama “drove pretty much every company out of the country.”

“There’s very little fact-checking of my father,” Eric Trump said.

Later in the podcast, Anthony challenged Trump on his father’s behavior. Eric conceded that the president “fights when he shouldn’t.” But then Trump claimed that the president’s behavior was not the main issue.

“Maybe it’s because I’m a businessman, I look at quantifiable things not sound bytes,” Eric Trump said.

On Thursday, Fox News’ Outnumbered panel slammed President Donald Trump for his conspiratorial tweets about how many people died in Puerto Rico because of Hurricane Maria.

Trump, while tweeting on Thursday morning, disputed the estimated death toll of 3,000 — calling it a Democrat plot to disparage him. Fox co-host Melissa Francis blasted the president’s tweets as “distasteful.” She added, “to take up on the issue of how many people are dead is so disgusting.”

“It cheapens us as a country,” Harris Faulkner said.

Steve Hilton, today’s #OneLuckyGuy, agreed that the current political arguments are “unseemly,” though he also said the politicalization of Puerto Rico started when San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz accused the Trump Administration of inaction. Katie Pavlich lamented the current commotion as a “distraction” when the country could learn from the mistakes of Maria to better prepare itself for Hurricane Florence.

Leslie Marshall panned Trump’s attempt to “turn disaster into political victory,” saying hurricane relief is not something to politicize even if it may not factor into the midterm elections.
