I can see owning a rifle for hunting, or if your raising livestock. But really what on earth do you need automatic weapons, handguns, sniper rifles or that much ammunition for?

Are people THAT paranoid and distrustful of their neighbours? Or just awaiting the Zombie apocalypse?
When I see that much firearms blatantly laying about and in private ownership I can't help but think of third world nations with gangs of marauders roaming about arbitrarily killing anyone who opposes the local Warlord.

I am also given to think that this 2nd Amendment is a tad antiquated, and is really only staunchly defended so because arms manufacturers make a ton of money off of selling to paranoid citizens.

But thank you, you reinforce my commitment never to visit your country, bring in my tourist dollars, because chances are some nut job with a firearm will probably shoot me.

I live in the country and guns are a part of life. With the liberals they think they can create a utopia that is all rainbows and candy. This just does not exist.

I have guns for protection, hunting and just to shoot in my back yard.

But I can now imagine the liberals all going nuts and wanting gun control because of 1 nut job. perhaps we should ban cars they kill how about knives. Kids fall on playgrounds and become veggies so lets ban them.

It's not about banning guns. We have thousands of responsible registered gun owners. Our biggest problem with firearms are weapons being smuggled in from the US.
And you have not clarified the need to own assault weapons or handguns. Sure, you can purchase such items here, but you have to go through a lengthy back ground check and get a special permit to own such things. Add to that you may only fire such weapons at registered firing ranges, they must be transported in gun cases with either a trigger lock or the bolt removed and kept seperately.

As for being paranoid.. do you not think it's justified? Constantly reading about people being shot, bills being passed so that people can wander around freely with military grade firearms on their person, and even with the high gun crime rate, people still advocating their "right" to carry such weapons?

Exactly why do people in the US fear their countrymen so that they feel the need to wander around with such weapons? The british aren't invading and the "injuns" are staying on their reserves.. so exactly why do people feel the need to gather such arsenals? It's not the same as buying vintage cars or collecting rare art peices, these are tools of death, devices thats sole purpose is to kill. That's what guns are designed for. they are not toys.
Want guns to show off? Buy replica's that can never be fired.
And if their that worried about their own countrymen, how do they view foreigners? It is already well documented that many americans think Canada is a base of operations for terrorist cells. You have drones patrolling the border and seemingly paramilitary units as border guards.

So it's not about banning guns, it about making sure responsible, mentally balanced citizens own firearms. Gun control.
As I stated before, I suspect the whole 2nd amendment issue is strictly about making profit.

Is it little wonder many outsiders view the US as the "society of the Gun".

Have a look at your economy goober, we don't get cheques from the US. In fact I am willing to bet a good portion of the metals in your firearms was from Canada. Or are you another one of those propagandist americans that believes the world rotates around the US. We have never needed your aide.

In fact which country allowed planes to land and passengers given places to stay after 9/11?
Which country was there when New Orleans was flooded? Which country has voluntarily sent vaccines and medicines to the US?
Which country had sent volunteers to Korea and Vietnam to held american forces? Which country has been fighting the war in Afghanistan long before your vaunted Marines arrived?
