In September 2017, House Speaker Paul Ryan traveled to a Harley-Davidson plant in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, to tout the Republican tax bill, which President Trump would sign later that year. “Tax reform can put American manufacturers and American companies like Harley-Davidson on a much better footing to compete in the global economy and keep jobs here in America,” Ryan told workers and company leaders.

Four months later and 500 miles away in Kansas City, Missouri, 800 workers at a Harley-Davidson factory were told they would lose their jobs when the plant closed its doors and shifted operations to a facility in York, Pennsylvania — a net loss of 350 jobs. Workers and union representatives say they didn’t see it coming.

Just days later, the company announced a dividend increase and a stock buyback plan to repurchase 15 million of its shares, valued at about $696 million.

It’s a pattern that’s played out over and over since the tax cuts passed — companies profit, shareholders reap the benefits, and workers get left out. Corporate stock buybacks hit a record $178 billion in the first three months of 2018; average hourly earnings for American workers are up 67 cents over the past year. Harley-Davidson is an American symbol, and President Trump has trotted it out as an example of business success. But as it’s getting its tax cut, it’s outsourcing jobs and paying shareholders. https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/com...d-rewarded-shareholders/ar-AAxD6bK?ocid=ientp

When Trump and the Republicans were pushing their tax cuts as a great benefit to the middle class and US companies that would use the windfall to invest in facilities in the US, create more jobs, and increase wages the Democrats called a bullshit on them and said US corporations would just use the money for stock buy backs and more profits.

And that is exactly what is happening. But it wasn't like the Democrats were psychic or anything. They were simply pointing out that tax rip offs are something the Republicans do every time they get into power. And they always promise if Americans will just go along with huge tax cuts for the 1% and corporations the benefits will trickle down to them. And they have done that several times beginning with Reagan and it has never worked once.

Good for York at least. They could sure use it.

But yeah... not at all surprising.

What did anyone expect from Republican tax cuts for the rich? This comes out to $26.80 a week. Don the Con's conned white blue collar workers will be able to buy a few more beers at the local tavern every week.

When we had strong labor unions blue collar workers did not need to rely on largesse from the GOP. With the Democrat Party backing them up they they had the power to force their employers to give them raises.

    Why am I not surprised?

Factory jobs will continue to go to low wage countries, or they will be taken by robots, despite the "better trade deals," Trump talked about during his campaign.

Unfortunately, it has worked politically with white blue collar workers. Most whites who have not gone to college vote Republican. When will they learn?

Republicans are less likely today than a decade ago to be college graduates, Pew [Research Center] found. That's a striking fact in a country that has steadily grown more college-educated...

Overall 50% of registered voters identify as Democrats or as independents who lean Democratic, Pew found. By contrast, 42% either identify as Republicans or lean toward them...

Democrats have benefited from two of the biggest shifts in recent years — the movement of women and college graduates in their direction.

On the other side, Republicans have gained loyalty among white voters without a college degree. They now hold a bigger advantage among that group — which remains the largest demographic group in the electorate — than at any point in more than two decades. Republicans have also gained in rural areas...

White college graduates side with the Democrats 53%-42%. As recently as two years ago, white college graduates were evenly split.

    Conversation overheard between a Russian PR Hack and an arrogant elite liberal;

RPRH; Keep slinging your shit at Trump. Something is bound to stick.
AEL; But, we're running out of things to sling at him.
RPRH: Make something up. You're college educated, use your imagination.
AEL; Well, but what about honesty and fair play and accuracy and debating the issues, not attacking the candidate?
RPRH; Now you're sounding like a conservative. Are you an informant??!?
AEL: The correct term would be "spy".

And yet that doesn't even remotely refute the fact that his base is suburban.

What that study seems to ignore is that Republicans vote in much higher numbers than Democrats, who will give excuse after excuse for it.

So, you are allowed to talk, but whenever anyone points out the corruption in your beloved Trump administration, you go ape-shit and start calling people names...

I may be an arrogant twat, but at least I am not a loyal Trump supporter, willing to accept the corruption that is Trump.

Nothing to say about how Trump billed his tax cut as a method of job creation, and how that money would be used... Oh never mind!

Again, shooter, like most deplorables, voted against clinton, not for trump.
No matter what trump was, the alternative was worse.
The surprise is that trump is actually doing a much better job than anyone thought possible.
Which is why butt hurt unsupporters are spewing all this shit about trump, most of it so ridiculous and so obviously wrong that it doesn't even need a response.

"The surprise is that trump is actually doing a much better job than anyone thought possible."

And Jethro Bodine graduated the 6th grade, he got a lot of credit for doing much better than anyone thought possible.

And will you respond if I ask about Trump having the most corrupt administration in modern history? That is kind of the topic. Trump said that there tax cuts would create jobs, but this is proof that they couldn't even save existing jobs. No one is using those tax cuts except to line their pockets.

So much for draining any swamp...

Well, first of all, no shooter won't engage in a meaningless debate with a pigeon about which administration is/was the most corrupt.
Second, since trump's election the economy has lit up. Unemployment is nonexistent, wages are up, and when was the last time so many employers paid bonuses?
Stocks are up, confidence is up, and the only cloud is the endless unsupporter allegations, rumors, and innuendo.
Trump is a pompous gas bag, but he's getting the job done that he said he would. He's done more in less than 18 months than he was expected to in his first term.

If you really are convinced trump is so bad, find someone better.

Ok... You only say you won't argue because you know the numbers tell the truth.

      19 indictments
      5 guilty pleas
      Etc...

Now prove everything you just spouted...

Unemployment is not non-existant, and what level it is at has nothing to do with Trump. If you follow the trend of what Obama did, then nothing that Trump did was significant. Hell, even the black unemployment trend follows what Obama did...

And please back up this "He's done more in less than 18 months than he was expected to in his first term."

      Your pigeons are laughing...

The problem with your rant is that Harley had announced the plan to close its plant long before the tax cut bill.
So, just more butt hurt unsupporter spew.
