my dad's in the hospital, which is very sudden and unexpected, and will be having open heart surgery this morning (Monday the 25th) at 7:30 am California time. He thought he had indigestion, but it ended up being his heart. The dr. gave him a 95% survival rate, but needless to say I'm still upset. I did get to talk to him tonight though and he was in good spirits. My sister is supposed to call me tomorrow after his surgery.

 

Your father will be in my thoughts Lioness.

Sorry to hear that, Lioness. Your father and family will be in my thoughts and prayers. My Father has had two attacks and three surgeries. I know the feeling.

Thanks you guys for all your kind thoughts, wishes and prayers...you've really touched my heart!!! I've been holding up pretty well, but I am worried about him. I haven't been able to see my dad for 8 years and you just never know.

I did get to kid with him a little tonight. He said the night nurse was coming in shortly to shave him for his surgery so I told him not to enjoy it too much.

 

well at least he's in good spirits about it! hope the "night nurse" isnt a man!

 

Lioness wish him as good a recovery as I have had or better if possible.

I thought mine was indigestion too and a maalox made it better.

but the next morning my pulse and blood pressure was half the normal values.

 

I'm sorry to hear about your father Diane. I'm sure everything will end up fine. I'll keep him in my thoughts for you.

 

fuck...I go in for open heart on Wednesday. I've had heart problems all my life, and I have survived 5 surgeries. W00t. I'mma come out alive on this fucker for sure. . I find it interesting that other people can relate to heart conditions.

lol no I'm saying I've had open heart surgery before, so I know what someone going through that feels like. I'm also kinda tired, mixed with hyper so my post came out horrendous. Anywhoo. I hope anyone, and everyone who undergoes any type of heart surgery comes out on top. I've survived my fair share of heart surgeries (open and not), and I strongly believe that the risk of not surviving one is so slim it shouldn't even be brought up.

 

I know it is probably all the worse because you cannot be there with him. Unfortunately I understand the shock and worry of a father being in the hospital...because daddies are suppose to be invincible, right?
I'm sure he will be fine, especially if the doctors seem hopeful. The fact that they gave you a percentage of survival instead of a "oh, he'll be okay..." response (the kind I got for my father) usually means they are not blowing sunshine up your ass.

I hope yours goes well, 94ranger. What is the recuperation time for open heart surgery, btw? My dad will be in the hospital 4-5 days and then I don't know if he'll have to go to a convalescent hospital or what or get to come home.

 

I think his night nurse is a woman!! And I know he would appreciate everyone's support and I don't think he would be too shocked that his daughter is here...but after heart surgery might not be a good time to find out though.

 

I've actually had heart problems since I was a baby. I was on a respirator, and I had oxygen till I was about 2, and every year or two since then I've gone in for check ups. So far, I've had a stent, and and a re-routed aorta, and now I'm going in for either a Pacemaker or a bigger stent. They're not sure yet, but all I know is, I'm just glad to be alive, and I hope I can come home the next day. That's all I have to say. I'm really sorry if I sounded rude in my very first post in this thread. I wish your father the best of luck. Having a heart condition is not easy, and it impairs me from doing normal things like running, or any type of big time sports. I do bike alot, though.

Don't worry, I didn't take your post to be rude. It did make me feel somewhat more hopeful about my father's surgery today. And you would be able to come home the day after heart surgery? That's amazing!!
