I know I'm revealing the extent of 'sheltering' I've had in my life from topics like this, but it's better to ask now and know the answers, than to go on being ignorant, yes?

So, who wants to tell an old, sheltered lady what all the definitions of the various other-gender specifications are, and do so in language that assumes I'm a Martian (Venutian?) who's never heard of 'gender' before at all!

For instance, some terms I've seen; Tranny/transsexual, lady boy? What are the terms for someone who has had a sex change operation, or someone preparing for one, or someone who was born with mixed sex organs?

And 'CD' is cross-dresser, yes? But not necessarily homosexual? And any other terms you'd enjoy educating me on. Thank you in advance! :rose:

Correct on the hermaphrodite, SuffolkMan. We might call it a "shemale", I think.
WanderingLady, the term "ladyboy" simply refers to a male-to-female transgender, or a very effeminate male.
Tranny/transsexual is one who has experienced a surgical procedure to transform them from male to female, or vice-versa.
One who hasn't gotten the procedure is simply called "pre-op" transsexual, and has been taking the necessary hormones needed to prepare their bodies for either male anatomy or female, which, for example, would enable the male body to grow larger breasts than what they were born with.
CD's are crossdressers, naturally males and females alike could crossdress, and not be gay. Perhaps some men like the feel of ladies' clothing, possibly for sexual arousal, or simply because it feels good, and again, vice-versa for the ladies. And congrats for taking a looksee outside the "shelter", it's not so bad out here

Transvestite/transsexual

A transvestite appears to be a person whose sexual thoughts tend to be the same as the other sex. They are still their original sex.

A transsexual is a person who has had the sex change operation and lives their life as the opposite gender.

Until today I was unaware of the difference, but I met a transsexual in the course of my job. He was pleased I asked the difference - he was getting his address, and name, changed on his account - and he had the papers to prove it!

 

Transvestite technically refers to cross-dressing, though it tends to be used as more of an insult now.

Transgender refers to those who intellectual gender does not match the gender they were assigned at birth.

Transsexual is a medical term, referring to those who are involved in elements of transitioning (such as taking hormones, having surgeries, etc.).

The term "hermaphrodite" has mostly been replaced by "intersex," and refers to anyone whose genitalia falls outside the gender binary (male-female).

I am glad to see that some of my confusions were not mine, alone.

 

I've always been a bit uncomfortable with the terms 'handjob' and 'blowjob'.
It set me wondering whether there might be a better alternative. Then I thought of the way that government organisations like to create acronyms - NASA, for example.
So how about 'Manually Inducing Sexual Stimulation' or MISS instead of handjob.
It would make for some interesting discussions at the pub/bar.

Then I wondered what happens if you create an acronym which is the same as an existing one for blowjob.
Here in the UK one can buy shares in an Open Ended Investment Company, or OIEC.
But perhaps OIEC should also stand for Orally Induced Extreme Coitus
It could make for some interesting discussions at the stockbroker's office

Finally, we seem to get a lot of newbies on this forum wondering whether they are gay or not.
I don't remember a term at all for these folks - how about something like Considering Personal Sexuality (CPS) - (Same as our UK Crown Prosecution Service)
or Wondering On Our Personal Sexual Status (WOOPS)
