The "age of consent" varies all over the world! When I was in the navy, stationed in Spain in the late 1960s the legal age of consent was 12 years old! However, I didn't know that at that time. They raise it to 16 in 1999!

 

I know, and if you are in a foreign country, and their age of consent laws are lower than your own country then that is something you have to decide for yourself, if you go by your own countries laws, or the country you are visiting. If I went to a country where the legal age of consent was lower than 16, like 12 for instance, and saw someone I fancied that was older than 12 but younger than 16, and they were behaving like an adult, I would probably go by the laws of the country I was visiting. If on the other hand, the person was behaving like a child I would stick to my own countries laws.

 

Agreed. Part of maturing is what's expected of you; if you aren't expected to be sexually mature until you're 18, chances are you're going to be mentally unprepared before then. If you're expected to be able to consent at 12, however, yourself and society will better prepare you for that at such a young age. But hell, I will only rarely be attracted to anyone under 23 anyway

 

Its like the child soldiers of various wars around the globe: Do you think they are just children playing? No, they are fully matured by battle, as young as they are. The point is that the social environment you are in controls how mature you are, and how responsible you are expected to be for your own actions, at any given age. If they lowered the Age of Consent laws in this country I'd support it if my social peers also made sure that sex education and maturity guidance was a priority.
