The co-founders of the political research firm behind a salacious dossier alleging various Russian connections to President Trump's campaign invoked their Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination before the House Intelligence Committee on Wednesday.



Fusion GPS co-founders Thomas Catan and Peter Fritsch were subpoenaed to appear before the committee in a closed-door session on Wednesday but asserted their right not to testify, a source close to the matter told Fox News.

Fritsch and Catan took the Fifth on every question posed by committee members. Another co-founder, Glenn Simpson, is under subpoena for a later date.

 

President Obama’s ambassador to the United Nations has testified that others made so-called unmasking requests in her name, House Oversight Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy said Tuesday.



“Her testimony is they may be under my name, but I did not make those requests,” Gowdy said of former Ambassador Samantha Power during an interview with Fox News’ Bret Baier on "Special Report with Bret Baier."

Power is among the Obama administration figures who made requests to identify Americans whose names surfaced in foreign intelligence reporting, known as unmasking.

Last month, Fox News reported that Power was unmasking at such a rapid pace in the final months of the Obama administration that she averaged more than one request for every working day in 2016 – and even sought information in the days leading up to President Trump’s inauguration

Maybe it is time to take a good look at who was impersonating Power. That should be an easy thing to find out.

 

Damning new evidence appears to show that Hillary Clinton used her office as Secretary of State to confer benefits to Russia in exchange for millions of dollars in donations to her foundation and cash to her husband.



But there’s more. It seems it was all covered up for years by the same three people who are now involved in the investigation of President Donald Trump over so-called Russian “collusion".



The incriminating evidence was uncovered by The Hill (John Solomon and Alison Spann) and Circa News (Sara Carter). Their dogged reporting reveals that the FBI gathered a multitude of documents, secret recordings, intercepted emails, financial records, and eyewitnesses accounts showing that Russian nuclear officials directed millions of dollars to the Clinton Foundation and hundreds of thousands of dollars to Bill Clinton during the very time that Hillary Clinton presided over a governing body which unanimously approved the sale of one-fifth of America’s uranium supply to Russia.

The corrupt scheme is said to have been financed by the Russians through bribes, kickbacks, extortion and money laundering. The FBI and the Department of Justice reportedly had the evidence in their possession before the uranium sale, but kept the matter secret and never notified Congress which would surely have stopped the transfer of uranium to Russia.

Peter Schweizer said a recent report in The Hill revealed that the FBI had evidence as early as 2009 that Russian operatives used bribes, kickbacks and other dirty tactics to expand Moscow’s atomic energy footprint in the U.S.

"Involved in that is a witness, an American businessman, under a gag order, who says that he heard and has information about efforts to bribe the Clintons involving the deal," Schweizer said.

That witness' attorney, Victoria Toensing, told The Hill her client was blocked by the Obama Justice Department from telling Congress about conversations and transactions he witnessed related to the Russian nuclear industry's efforts to win favor with the Clintons and to influence Obama administration decisions.

Brian Kilmeade said it's time for the Trump Justice Department to lift that gag order, so Congress and the American people can discover what he knows.

"There is absolutely no reason, I think, any justification, for this guy to be under a gag order anymore," Schweizer said. "Let him testify before Congress, let him go to the media and tell his story. And then people can decide what they think about what he has to say."

He noted that Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) announced this week that he is launching a probe into the controversial deal.

"He wants to get to the bottom of how this actually happened," Schweizer said.

 

Special Counsel Robert Mueller and his team running the Russia collusion probe are being accused by fellow attorneys of employing aggressive and questionable tactics in past cases, potentially putting a dent in his straight-shooter image.



As the investigation heats up and key players like former White House chief of staff Reince Priebus and press secretary Sean Spicer have been interviewed by investigators, several attorneys with experience in federal cases spoke out with their concerns this week.

Harvey Silverglate, a criminal defense attorney in Massachusetts, wrote an opinion piece accusing Mueller of once trying to entrap him when Mueller was acting U.S. attorney in Boston.

“I have known Mueller during key moments of his career as a federal prosecutor,” Silverglate wrote for WGBH News. “My experience has taught me to approach whatever he does in the Trump investigation with a requisite degree of skepticism or, at the very least, extreme caution.”

According to Silverglate, Mueller once sent someone into Silverglate's office offering to give false testimony for a client. Silverglate said he turned the offer down and noticed the man was wearing a wire.

“Years later I ran into Mueller, and I told him of my disappointment in being the target of a sting where there was no reason to think that I would knowingly present perjured evidence to a court,” Silverglate wrote. “Mueller, half-apologetically, told me that he never really thought that I would suborn perjury, but that he had a duty to pursue the lead given to him.”

 

Congressional testimony by President Barack Obama’s former ambassador to the United Nations, Samantha Power, about the “unmasking” of U.S. citizens’ names she requested in hundreds of foreign intelligence intercepts by the National Security Agency, has raised new questions about how the sensitive information was ordered up, and subsequently handled.



Power spoke to the House Intelligence Committee on Oct. 13 behind closed doors, and what she said is still cloaked in secrecy. But on Oct. 17, House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy, who also sits on the Intelligence Committee, told Fox News: “Her testimony is they [the unmasking requests] may be under my name, but I did not make those requests.” Gowdy said little else about the session.

The sheer volume of such requests submitted to U.S. intelligence authorities in her name was already unusual. But if she did not initiate them, then who did, and why? Was the resulting information delivered to Power, as the normal protocols of handling such constitutionally-protected information require? Was she even aware of the gush of highly sensitive and secret information solicited under her name?

 

Shouldn't be too much to ask for.

President Trump on Saturday called for his own Justice Department to publicly release who paid for a salacious dossier that includes unverified allegations about his connections with Russia.



In an afternoon tweet, the president drew attention to how two officials at Fusion GPS, a political research firm behind the dossier, invoked the Fifth Amendment before the House Intelligence Committee on Wednesday.

“Officials behind the now discredited ‘Dossier’ plead the Fifth,” the president tweeted. “Justice Department and/or FBI should immediately release who paid for it.”

 

The hunter will become the hunted.

Robert Mueller isn’t the only person investigating Russia with financial interests in Russia.

California Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff, the ranking member of the House intelligence committee,
reported owning at least $16,000 of Russia-linked investments on his most recent financial disclosure.

Mueller’s investments in Russia could present a clear conflict of interest in how he carries out his investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 President Election.

Mueller Benefited From Ponzi Schemes

Another hedge fund that Robert Mueller disclosed owning was Defenders Multi-Strategy Hedge Fund, LLC. This hedge fund wass run by William P. Sauer, who has been sued by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for running two separate Ponzi Schemes. Sauer ultimately settled the lawsuits for $5 million.

This hedge fund did business under 4 different names during its 9 years of existence.

2. 2004‐2009: BNY Ivy Multi‐Strategy Hedge Fund LLC
3. 2009‐2010: Defenders Multi‐Strategy Hedge Fund LLC

“Ivy Asset Management”, as it was known at the time, fed clients into Bernie Madoff’s Ponzi Scheme and eventually paid $200 million to settle complaints associated with alleged misconduct surrounding this investment. The FBI never investigated any of the people or entities associated with the Defenders Multistrategy hedge fund or other funds that Mueller has invested in.

Tony Podesta and the Podesta Group are now the subjects of a federal investigation being led by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, three sources with knowledge of the matter told NBC News.

The probe of Podesta and his Democratic-leaning lobbying firm grew out of Mueller's inquiry into the finances of former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, according to the sources. As special counsel, Mueller has been tasked with investigating possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.

Tony Podesta is the chairman of the Podesta Group and the brother of John Podesta, Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign chairman. John Podesta is not currently affiliated with the Podesta Group and is not part of Mueller's investigation.

In a statement, a spokesman for the Podesta Group said the firm always "conducts due diligence ... to ensure compliance" and "is cooperating fully with the Special Counsel's office and has taken every possible step to provide documentation that confirms timely compliance."

Is there a single politician who does not and never had any dealings with Russia?

 

This wasn't the first problematic case for the company involving FARA. In November, the Podesta Group told the Justice Department that it failed to file legally required disclosures of White House advocacy on behalf of a foreign government -- in this case India, according to federal filings. The Washington Free Beacon first reported that the Podesta Group was in violation of FARA.

 

As long as Mueller comes up with a result I couldn't care less who he hangs in the process from either side of the aisle.

 

But he isn't really looking for anyone except Trump.
It is making his job a lot tougher when he has to hide everything he finds out that shows the democrats colluded with the Russians.
