  2. Hello,

You can now get verified on forum.

The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

I need to be able to recognize you in that picture. You need to have some pictures of your self in your gallery so I can compare that picture.

Please note that verification is completely optional and it won't give you any extra features or access. You will have a check mark (as I have now, if you want to look) and verification will only mean that you are who you say you are.

You may not use a fake pictures for verification. If you try to verify your account with a fake picture or someone else picture, or just spam me with fake pictures, you will get Banned!

The pictures that you will send me for verification won't be public

    Best regards,

    StanleyOG.

I have lived in Canada for my entire life. I have found that the different areas have a stronger connection to the US than others, like I found Newfoundland, the Maritimes, and Quebec are noticeably different, mostly because of slay(?) resource management and the looks of the buildings, where Ontario and the West seem to have stronger cultural ties to the US. I also know in the past there have been attempts to separate us from the US. There is much money we put into cultural activities, and we have set laws like the radio one, where you have to play a certain amount of Canadian content, so I would like to hear others' opinions on this. Is Canadian cultural independence an issue, and do you agree that Newfoundland and the Maritimes and Quebec are noticeably different?

Public education in Canada is no better than anywhere else ..
    .......... :rose:
But ' the ' writer is correct ... some parts of Canada are more Americanized than others .....
Oddly enough the French in Que "" love their Americans "" .......
Alberta .... were I live is the most Americanized place to live in terms of how it is run economically.
The lower mainland in B.C. ..greater Vancouver ... was as America as American when i lived there in the early 90's ..... until the Chinese invasion .... now I do not know what it is like .....
Central Canadians are not as open as Western Canadians
TV plays a big part in the Americanization of Canada ..... some places have little or no TV conection to the USA ...others have " more TV from America than many places in Amercia " .....
The above statements are generalizations ... times change and so do people ...
An issue " Canadian Culrural Independence ".......only to some ....

    I will quote to comedians ... .
    1. Amreican ............. Canada is like the attic ........... one rarely thinks about it but when one goes up there one is surprized by the wonderful things one finds.
    2. Canadian .......... the USA is that party down the street that you see and wonder about ............ when you are ask over your in awe and elated.

o god, thanks..that actually hurt to read :(

actually..alot of Americans refer to Canada as America's hat...

I like to counter this statement by reminding those people that America is Canada's Toilet ...;)

BUT..to answer the question, I'd say that among Canadians the issue of our cultural independence isn't that much of an issue..unless someone relates us to Americans...then well...there begins the makings of a shit-storm. But other than that, when you look at the amount of Canadian born media that we (Canadians) have at hand, I'm not worried; ex): CBC (radio), tv (the Border..awesome!!!)+all the tv shows that were created in Vancouver...BSG!!.

To the second question, I personally haven't spent much time in the Maritimes, but yea I would agree that Quebec has a distinctly different cultural sense than the rest of Canada, but one could apply the same reasoning to Alberta...

A friend from Michigan used to refer to Canada as the "big states to the north" and stated that several Canadians he knew refered to the US as "the small provences to the south".

I've travelled to Canada about a dozen times, Ontario, Quebec, and Saskatchewan (pretty sure I butchered the spelling). Quebec does seem more independant (both from the USA and the other two provences I've seen) but I think that is primarily a language issue.

Yeah. That sounds about right. Have heard both. I really don't know how it is with other border states, but Michigan is on pretty good terms with our neighbors to the north. So much so, that while not official, Canadian coins are pretty much accepted anywhere (within reason and except in machines).

If you use Firefox, you will have a great "spell check" which you can set to Canadian, as well as US or UK. You may find that using it will help you improve your spelling.
Where are you? N.B., P.E.I., or Nova Scotia. I'm in P.E.I
