The people who smoked cigarettes in high school were the ones who did poorly in school and who got into trouble with school authorities and the police. They thought smoking cigarettes made them look tough. I though it made them low class.

Women who are already sexy can look sexy when they do it (and when you're drunk you don't notice the smell quite as much) but only up to a certain point. And most people who smoke don't fit into that category. Don't know what it is. And really let me tell you that the image and idea of being around that is a hell of a lot different from the reality.

I understand what Distant Lover is saying. Smoking really is a working class thing. I grew up around and know so many smokers, not by choice. But unlike others, they don't think it makes them tough or badass. Only sheltered pussies think that. And it also wasn't limited to the type of people he's talking about. I know some really good dudes who smoke. Same with girls.

I think the idea of smoking being sexy or badass or any of that just comes from the way it's used in media and has been for many years to show this or that. And in the outside world, it gives somebody a reason to stand around outside without looking completely creepy. Basically that's the case no matter the venue or situation. If you saw somebody standing or sitting around outside or anywhere else the way smokers do who wasn't a smoker, you'd wonder what the fuck was up with that person. And if you saw a girl giving off the kind of attitude certain girls who smoke did, you'd think she has an attitude problem. The act itself somehow allows people to do things that draw attention or be a certain way that kind of portrays something without the reaction from others it would normally provoke.

But I think really that's an urban thing. Outside of an urban area or like a club or something, it's really quite dumb.
