  2. Hello,

You can now get verified on forum.

The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

I need to be able to recognize you in that picture. You need to have some pictures of your self in your gallery so I can compare that picture.

Please note that verification is completely optional and it won't give you any extra features or access. You will have a check mark (as I have now, if you want to look) and verification will only mean that you are who you say you are.

You may not use a fake pictures for verification. If you try to verify your account with a fake picture or someone else picture, or just spam me with fake pictures, you will get Banned!

The pictures that you will send me for verification won't be public

    Best regards,

First off, welcome to one and all taking the time to read this.

Since the KAW was created in that off-time between CAWs and a CAW is currently running, I would wish to take advantage of the lengthy writing time given by the CAW-host and get this baby up and running.

    First off, the rules:

    I. Obviously the most important one in this competition, no CAW winners are allowed to enter. Previous KAW winners I would like to take part if they want to (except the Host of course which will be me)

II. Since I will not be here except Fridays and Sundays, this will be an "open" competition, that means that you will have to post the story on the Forum in the Stories section. The name of the story will need to start with: KAW 3: "Name of your story"

III. Co-op writing is allowed, as long as the two, three, four, six of you are happy with how the story gets posted, I have will have no problem.

IV. This compy will run over the period of when you read it today (27 July 2015) up until 31 August 2015. **

    Theme:

In the passed two KAWs the themes were open, but since I am a bit of a maniac, I want a theme for this competition. And no the theme is not about maniacs, it will be SCI-FI.

Now I don't care what sort of Sci-Fi genre you use, as long as the story can be read and at least an inkling of science fiction can be found, even if you just mention a microwave oven in a story based in the 1700's. Feel free to stretch this idea as far as you want to, in Sci-Fi nothing is impossible since it is called Fiction for a reason :)

    Participants:

If you ever wanted to join a CAW, but was daunted by the sheer presence of the names and talent participating, come sharpen your sword here. Though not as highly coveted as the CAW, the KAW is still a good place to sharpen your skill and take in the advice of the experienced writers and through that become better. So I say again, one and all are welcome, unless you are in the CAW winners circle.

    **
If this date is fine with ahorsewithnoname then it remain as is.

    Stickied this.

Interesting theme. People were chatting on the CAW thread about stretching boundaries, and this should inspire it too. Some excellent writers did well in this genre -- Huxley, Orwell, Wells, Verne -- and it's a big part of popular culture. Some people have heard of Star Trek and Star Wars. But not all sci-fi is futuristic, is it?

This could inspire the type of story some people wrote for BlackRonin's CAW #13. Fantasy worlds can be light or dark, or sometimes both. Here, writers can do anything from tentacle sex to revisionist history.

    This should be good.

I've just written a whole series with more or less SCI-FI in it. Now I've got to think of something new. The theme is a bit open, more constraints make it easier to think of an idea.

We just post the story when we feel like it? There's no particular writing period?

Stex the writing period ends on the 31st of August.

Or if I am mistaken and the voting phase is part of the time table then I will have to edit the rules a bit.

Am planning to stop the writing two weeks before the CAW and then have a read and vote period of two weeks and the results shoukd then be finished before the CAW reaches its own end.

Everything looks great, only thing is that it says 31 August 2017...that's 2 years from now! :) If we can get one of the Mods to change that to 2015, I think you have a winner. SciFi is one of my all-time favorites. If life permits I may write a non-entry for fun. Good luck!

I've got a reasonable idea now, I think it could be a good one. It may even have novel elements, at least ones I don't ever remember reading about before.

I am seriously at a loss with this one.

ok here we go sci-fi short for science fiction defined as:
Science fiction is a genre of fiction dealing with imaginative content such as futuristic settings, futuristic science and technology, space travel, time travel, faster than light travel, parallel universes and extraterrestrial life. It usually eschews the supernatural, and unlike the related genre of fantasy, its imaginary elements are largely plausible within the scientifically established context of the story. Science fiction often explores the potential consequences of scientific and other innovations, and has been called a "literature of ideas" - as per Wikipedia

    hope that helps

    Very good post, pars!

While sci-fi technically isn't about the supernatural, it IS about other realities. I don't see why the ghost of Abe Lincoln couldn't be retrieved by a time machine to give speeches about the Confederate flag in the year 2300. Maybe Walt Disney comes back to haunt the 100th anniversary celebration at his park. Maybe zombies are really corpses inhabited by ghosts other than their own. It seems like the big limitation here is the wildness of a writer's imagination.

People should have fun with this one.

I'd go for "The world as it isn't", but it must be plausible. Whatever deviation you have from reality must have a rational basis or its fantasy.

A regular story takes the world as it is and makes a story. I've known people who call that "Earthbound" fiction. (Not a compliment.)

Sci-Fi, also called "Speculative Fiction" by those who want to be taken seriously, will ask "what if?" And go from there.

The future is the natural home of SF. Lots of what ifs. Alternative histories can be interesting. That's writing about the past's future. The what if was in the past.

I had a thought for a what if. What if Queen Victoria had died giving birth to her first child. Where would that have left your Debutante's Ball?
