He's thinking now that Strozks "Not once in my 26 years of defending our nation (everyone stand and salute please) did I allow my personal opinions effect my actions".

So anyway, just for fun, how about we list our favorite lies as told to us by our government people, elected and otherwise.

And, so this isn't taken over by one political extreme or the other, you have to post one from each party. If you can't find a lie from both parties worthy of posting, you probably ought to go play somewhere else.

How ironic since Trump is the biggest and consistent liar to ever hold the office of President followed by his entire administration. The American people cannot believe a fucking word they say. And it is just common for them to have two or three different stories going at the same time on any given issue. But they are really bad at lying because they get caught at it daily.

FWIW, there are plenty of men who don't consider oral sex to be "sexual relations", especially in the South. Sure, it's bullshit, but believe me, there are plenty of men that operate under this unspoken rule.

As for big, fat lies, there's GHW Bush's "Read my lips. No new taxes." and GW Bush's whole "weapons of mass destruction" bullshit about Iraq.

Since Trump was first a Democrat, then an Independent and finally a Republican before he became the full-on leader of the Trumpian party, any combination of statements from him ( as long as they are dated from his appropriately designated affiliations ) should qualify.

 

You're missing the point. Republican strategist looked at the coming generation of Republican candidates and realized they were a pretty nasty bunch. It seemed everyone of them had a glaring weak point that could be exploited by the opposition. For example, George W. Bush had that awkward thing about signing up for the Air National Guard and not showing up for duty, to avoid going to Viet Nam. He's up against John Kerry, who led men in combat. The solution to this sticky problem is to call Kerry a coward and claim family influence was the reason he was awarded a Silver Star, Bronze Star, and three Purple Hearts. Cadet Bonespurs later used this tactic to say, "I like people who weren't captured," about John McCain.

At one time, lying would have been a real weak spot in a candidate, but not today. Since it's difficult to find Democratic liars, they have to go back and cherry pick as many lies as possible. We have to remember, defending a liar is a tough job. People who believe implausible lies are generally thought to be stupid, so the lie defender has to walk a thin line. Who will pay attention to a stupid person? It's best to avoid talking about the President and concentrate on lies from the past. The new standard is, "whatever people want to hear, or at least accept at the moment." This works great on a campaign, but not so good when you get elected. The people who are paid by President know better than to use the word "lie" in any context. It's a firing offense. Just ask Hope Hicks.

President Trump has always had a problem absorbing information. He doesn't read very much, so has to rely on the people around him for information. The Iran Treaty and the Nafta Trade agreement don't come in picture form, so when he said each was the worst agreement ever, he was just repeating what he was told. He has no real idea what's in either. This lack of information leads him to say things a more aware person would avoid. He never actually read the reports about Russian hacking of voter registration roles, so that wasn't foremost in his mind when he repeated the old script about "no reason it would be Russia."

He's been saying that since day one, so on day 500 and something, it's a bit much to expect him to shift gears, especially with Putin only a couple feet away.

 

Bill Clinton should have said, "I did not sleep with that woman." This would gotten his point across, and not been a categorical denial of all sexual contact.

In southern culture, the line is very blurry and tends to move when you're not looking. As one woman told me, "It's not cheating until you've seen me naked."

At least it is in the eyes of the law, "southern culture" notwithstanding....

 

Makes sense that you support Trump, you hold the bar so low for him that even at 70, it doesn't require much for him to step over it...

And no, lying is not a job requirement. If that were the case, every campaign promise would be worthless and any statement made in office would be suspect.

This is nothing more than an excuse to allow Trump to lie unfettered. Go play your games on your home planet.

You didn't have to. Trump is demonstrably the most prolific liar in American politics... The whole point of this thread is to minimize his lies by pretending you are being "bipartisan" by bring up one lie told by someone from each party.

But my point of bring up Trump is your insistence that "lying is a job requirement for politicians." That phase is your excuse for Trump's myriad of lies...

 

Yet the left has no one that is better than Trump or anyone who can beat Trump in 2020....
