It sounds like he was on his way out anyway. By doing it this way he was probably able to feel some type of connect to the people there, regardless the opinions of its virtue. Death is a very bonding experience. If he coundn't go it with friends and family, perhaps those who tried to talk him down as well as his provokers let him know that at least for this moment his actions meant something to someone.

that's so sad, he must've had something emotionally wrong with him. being provoked on the internet, (they said he was well-liked as a person) would not bring someone to kill themselves. even to do that to get people's attention and to say "hey look what you made me do", is not enough, because think about it- if your dead, how do you know what the outcome is?? from what his brother said, it sounds like people got along with him pretty well. that's terrible. i've known quite a few people that have committed suicide. it's a selfish thing to do, and the family never really gets over it.

 

Maybe this poor man just didn't want to die alone. I doubt that he committed suicide because a few told him to. He was 42 and his brother is quoted as saying he would not have been easily influenced. He had a history of problems, according to the article. May he rest in peace.

 

right. it's just too bad no one saw that he had emotional problems before that happened.

 

I just don't get it...I have seen some pretty dark times but they have never been so dark that I saw no hope

 

He tried to kill himself 4 times in 4 years. People knew he had issues.

 

I find it absurd that people want a ban for this type of chatroom. The chat room was peripheral.

 

It is unfortunate, but is this really some type of pinnacle?

 

It's always easy to find a knee-jerk reaction to an easy target, without looking at the whole issue.

 

I would think net suicide was only a matter of time but actually I'd have thought it would have happened before now.

But I think is serves as a good example of how fruitless it is to try and save people from themselves. And how passing laws to restrict what other people do because some individuals might harm themselves by it should be seen for what it is, and Chunky said, a knew jerk reaction to very complex problems.

I also think some people will do anything for attention, but he won't do it again. And he never even heard the applause.

 

Somewhere way down in the text they wrote that this was an accident.
I a man comits suicide, how is that an accident?

The story didn't hint at this but there is a kind of sexual fetish that involves asphixation and masterbation. The object is to pass out at the point of orgasim and they find everything from farmers to County Attornies hanging from them. They are supposed to have a fail safe that realeses the chokeing mechansim but some times the fail-safes fail.

But this seems to me to be more of a case of I double dog dare you.

 

Often times I don't give people enough credit, but I gave this guy more than that.
