I received a call, and was told my father passed away. My house guests have been giving me support, and space to come to terms with the news. I can't get a flight out until Tuesday with it being a holiday, and find myself helpless until I can be there for the arrangements.

These lovely ladies even set up a space in the garden they built for me out back of my home. Privacy, the darkness, and several drinks haven't really helped at all, but in a few minutes, I'll be going back out to this space they created for me, where I'll likely consume many more, and reminisce. Maybe cruise a few threads here as a diversion. I don't know, I just feel lost!

Things where always so stressful between my father and I. There where so many times that people felt they couldn't put the two of us in the same room without there being a conflict of one sort or another. So many times people would leave whatever space we where in for fear things could come to blows. He had that volatile a temper, and it seems I just didn't have enough sense to simply walk away.

But he was my dad!
And even with all the drama, my heart breaks, and I feel broken.

 

I'm sorry to hear mate. You have my thoughts and ear if you feel like venting.

Sometimes you don't realize how much you actually love or care for someone until they are gone ... I hated my dad until years after he passed away and then I worked around the anger to see he wasn't as bad as I thought him to be in certain ways.

I want to thank everyone for their kind thoughts.
To those who've held opposing views from my own in the forums, and at times we've exchanged rather mean spirited comments, I want to acknowledge your kindness, and thank you for your support during this time of turmoil.

It's heart-lifting to know that even among people who under normal circumstances are at odds, that during one persons trials, adversaries, and friends alike band together in support of one persons time of grief. It's a kindness I won't forget.
That being said, maybe as a species, there's hope for us after all. Many thanks.
