Rookie kicks Eagles past Giants with 61-yard FG

The Giants are 0-3 after a losing a 27-24 thriller to the Eagles in Philadelphia. Here's what we learned:

    1. Eagles rookie kicker Jake Elliott made one of the greatest field goals in NFL history with a 61-yarder as time expired to win a topsy-turvy game. But Elliott would have never been in that position if not for a shanked punt by the Giants' Brad Wing to give the Eagles a shot at a last-second drive. Carson Wentz and Alshon Jeffery also deserve a huge assist for a difficult 19-yard connection, the longest reception for the Eagles all day, to set up the field goal with only one second left on the clock.

    2. Eli Manning and the Giants' offense finally heated up against a banged-up Eagles defense, but it was ultimately too late. Trailing 14-0 after 29 drives with only one touchdown all season, the Giants reached the end zone on three straight possessions to open a 24-point fourth quarter. New York focused on short throws and a hurry up offense to save their beleaguered offensive line, but a complete lack of a running game (again) and inability to make the Eagles pay early for their injuries came back to haunt the team. At least the real Odell Beckham was back, with a ridiculous pair of touchdown catches highlighting a nine-catch performance.

    3. The Eagles will be grateful to get a win on a day they were missing four key pieces to their secondary entering the game, and then lost star defensive tackle Fletcher Cox (calf), emerging linebacker Jordan Hicks (ankle) and running back Darren Sproles (wrist) to injury. Winning a division game like this despite the injuries is a great example of managing the schedule, putting them at 2-0 in the division while the Giants go to 0-2.

    4. Do the Giants have a rush defense problem? The Eagles controlled the clock most of Sunday with 193 yards on the ground, a surprising total considering the presence of Damon Harrison, Jason Pierre-Paul and Olivier Vernon up front for the G-Men. Wendell Smallwood and LeGarrette Blount both ran well, helping the Eagles average more yards-per-play on the ground (4.9) than through the air (4.7).

    5. All the ball control appeared to wear down the Giants' defense late. After New York took its first lead of the season at 21-14, the Eagles' offense rallied to score on their next three possessions to win the game. After a shaky first three quarters, Wentz played his best with the game on the line.

The Goddam donkeys showed why we so love our football team; they managed to come off of a schooling of Dallas and demonstrate that indeed, they can still play high school football when the occasion requires grounding fans relative to their dreams of another super bowl win.

No matter. It's a long season.

All right. Time to set the record straight on the NFL National Anthem thingy.

First, it is indeed an irony that the 1% who are NFL members have elected to dissrespect the millions of Americans who have sacrificed so much to defend their right to protest and provided so much of the opportunity to make Millions playing a game they love.

More than almost any other group of Americans, these athletes have both the means and the opportunity to make a positive impact on what they perceive as injustice. Some do. Some who dissrespect our Military members by sitting on their ass during the anthem and presentation of the colors also contribute to "worthy causes". But, disrespecting our military is not productive, does not have a positive impact on the issues they care about, and in the end, does little but piss off their fans.

Now on the other side we have the pompous gas bag calling them "sons of bitches" and calling for their firing. This is about as productive as sitting on one's ass while the national anthem is played and the colors presented. While it might feel good for the moment, all it does is piss off people.

Shooter expected better from our President.

But then, Shooter had hoped that the players sitting on their collective asses would realize that their publicity moment had passed, and find more productive ways to address the issues. Now what with the pompous gas bag blowing off steam, the publicity moment has returned.

So, we'll suffer through a few more weeks or months of watching these Millionaire athletes sit on their collective asses while the debate rages on. Meanwhile, the injustice and discrimination will continue.

And again, the protest is not against either the flag or the military, but Trump's idiotic rant.

    Get a grip, people.

Sproles tore ACL, broke wrist on one play
Eagles running back Darren Sproles tore his ACL and broke his wrist on the same play in Sunday's win over the Giants. Coach Doug Pederson confirmed the injuries Monday, saying it's a "devastating" loss. The versatile Sproles has nine returns for touchdowns, including seven on punts.

Bears lose safety Demps to broken arm
Chicago Bears safety Quintin Demps suffered a broken arm in the 23-17 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers and will be out an indefinite period of time.

Falcons hold on to beat Lions thanks to NFL rule
Matthew Stafford's pass to Golden Tate was ruled to be just short of the goal line in the final seconds, overturning the call on the field and allowing the Atlanta Falcons to hold on for a 30-26 win over the Detroit Lions on Sunday.

    Cowboys/Cardinals in less than a 1/2 hour.

The equality is going downhill due to strict concussion protocols and politics so I don't blame you. You have to look real hard to find a great game on Sunday these days but yesterday had a couple but statistically that doesn't say much.

Fewer parents are putting their kids into football so the pool will dry up eventually. Ratings are down and this latest scandal won't help them.

7-0 Arizona early in the 1st.

You can't say enough about the tenacity of Dak Prescott. Not only is he earning his "C" as the captain of the cowboys but he shows that he won't back down to anyone as he did an acrbatic flip over 2 defenders to punch one into the endzone to even the score at 7's going into halftime.

I hope that some that are butthurt get over themselves fast and get back to watching sport IF you did before the weekend once again changed America for the better as far as awareness goes but for worse as far as divisiveness goes ...

The Cardinals burned almost 6 minutes off the clock in the 4th and settled for a FG to bring the score to within 4 points at 21-17 but Dallas just put on a clinic and had their way with the Cards as they drove 80 yards in 4 plays in less than 2 minutes to make it 28-17 Dallas with 5 to go.

The Packers took care of the Bears 35-14 on Thursday night.

Full slate of games this Sunday. It's all about the football man.

Will KC and Atlanta Falcons remain unbeaten ? I think one of them may be 3-1 after Sunday and KC or the Falcons could be the only unbeaten team left on Sunday

This is the kind of statement only an uninformed person could make ...

The NCAA has very strict rules as to conduct and protocol that keeps them inline but being a person the deals with the college ranks on a continuing basis I for one know that all is not as it seems "under the lights" of the TV camera's.

    AND its "snowflakes" btw. ;)

Both great teams and examples of teams that don't generally get the recognition that they deserve due to their geographical location.

Falcons or Chiefs | Which is worst undefeated team in NFL?
    And then there were two.

We’re talking about undefeated NFL teams, of course, and heading into Sunday night’s game at FedExField, we fully expected to be talking about three of them today. But the Oakland Raiders were not up to the task against the Washington Redskins, so here we are with the remaining pair — the Kansas City Chiefs and Atlanta Falcons.

These two remaining undefeated teams are two very different and interesting squads. We’re not going to attempt to determine which will go unbeaten the longest — the parity of the NFL, in which many games are determined by only a play or two, make that a near impossibility. But we can take a look at how each has performed so far in 2017 and determine which is least deserving of its 3-0 status.

    Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons, of course, are coming off an incredible Super Bowl run that resulted in an even more incredible Super Bowl collapse and stunning defeat to the New England Patriots. But early season predictions of the Birds suffering depression from that loss have proven to be misplaced.

Atlanta opened with a six-point win at Chicago, proceeded to handle the Green Bay Packers 34-23 in Week 2 (despite being outscored 13-0 in the fourth quarter), then escaped with a fortunate 30-26 victory at Detroit on Sunday. In fact, if Brian Poole had not managed to get his fingers on Golden Tate’s shoulder pad before he fell across the goal line, we wouldn’t even be having this conversation.

So that’s three victories, two of them on the road, and a seven-point margin of victory average, which ranks as the third best in the NFC.

The Falcons have a star-studded roster, particularly on offense. The running game is great with Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman. The line is good. Julio Jones is one of the best receivers in the NFL, and Mohamed Sanu is a strong receiving mate.

Leading them all is Matt Ryan, who based on his 2016 season should be among the best quarterbacks in the league. Last season he led the NFL with a passer rating of 117.1. This season’s mark of 99.2 is more in line with the rest of his career — and the 4-3 TD/interception ratio is a bit concerning — but you have to figure that with all those weapons around him, he’ll improve those numbers as the season progresses.

On defense, the Falcons have been a bit below average. Their 66 points allowed ranks 18th in the NFL, they’ve forced only two turnovers and they’ve allowed the 10th–most passing yards in the league. On the other hand, they have held teams to a decent 5.0 yards per play and have managed to hold Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers (90.7 passer rating) and Detroit’s Matthew Stafford (80.2) in check.

It hasn’t been the most impressive 3-0 start for the Falcons, but undefeated is undefeated, and they figure to get better as the season progresses.

    Kansas City Chiefs

During coach Andy Reid’s tenure, the Chiefs have been consistently very good while simultaneously showing little sign of being an actual championship threat. They made a statement that that could change this season when they ran away late to an impressive 42-27 victory over the Patriots at New England in Week 1.

The Chiefs then followed that up with a narrow win over the Philadelphia Eagles (currently 2-1) in Week 2, and on Sunday held on in front of 26,000 NFL fans for a 24-10 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chiefs were outgained by the Eagles and Chargers.

After Week 1, it looked like Alex Smith was a new man, as the notoriously conservative passer torched the Patriots with long passes to Kareem Hunt and Tyreek Hill. There were some theories put out as to why Smith was playing differently, including the possibility that he was spurred to adjust when the Chiefs drafted gunslinger Patrick Mahomes in the first round.

But since then Smith has reverted to form as the guy who quickly checks down — though it must be pointed out that he has been doing it better than he ever has, possessing a 7-0 TD/interception ratio and an NFL-best 132.7 passer rating.

In addition to Smith, the Chiefs have largely been successful thanks to the emergence of Hunt, who has 401 rushing yards on 8.5 yards per carry, a solid defense that has 11 sacks, and a plus-4 turnover margin. They are second only to Jacksonville (12.7) with a 12.0 average margin of victory.

    In conclusion …

Through three games this season, it’s quite clear that the Chiefs are the better of the NFL’s two remaining undefeated teams. The victory over the Patriots plays a large role in that conclusion — not just that they beat New England, but how they did it. They seem to have the ability to beat teams in different ways, with athletic offensive players like in Week 1 or in grind-it-out affairs like in Week 3.

With that in mind, we should point out that it could very well be a different story by the end of the season. The Falcons have better top-to-bottom talent on offense and they already know what it takes to carve a path to the Super Bowl. Sometimes, it can be a benefit to have survived some stiff challenges earlier in the season before a team’s players get their legs fully underneath them.

Either way, there are 30 other fan bases out there who would gladly take the title of NFL’s “worst undefeated team.”

They are doing well so far and to take out an undefeated team such as the Falcons shows they are no fluke ...
