North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-un has ordered an increase in security at such sites to stop more “hostile elements” deface the statues and murals.

Increasing numbers of bronzed figures and paintings have been produced in honour of the three Kim leaders as the current despot tries to piggy-back on the popularity of previous rulers.

But with famine and starvation frequently sweeping the country, citizens are furious at the imbalance in the country and there is a growing anger at Kim and his one-party government.

In particular, citizens are frustrated at the increased focus on nuclear weapons and war when they and their families are going hungry and have taken aim at the monuments in protest.

One citizen told a South Korea-based news agency security lighting was now being used to stop anyone attacking the statues or other monuments.

He said: “Agencies have constantly been saying 'Use lights to illuminate statues and paintings of the three generals of the Mount Paekyu bloodline and thoroughly care for them to ensure that hostile elements cannot damage them'.”

And a Japan-based expert confirmed disgruntled North Koreans were targeting the statues as symbols of the state’s problems.

Professor Shigemura said: “Local authorities have no choice but to increase security around these monuments because it could cost them their jobs, or worse, if such protests begin to spread.

“Younger generations of North Koreans have little respect for Kim Jong-un and we are beginning to see that come to the surface.

“Despite all his promises, Kim Jong-un has had no significant successes and the people know it. People want food and better living standards, they do not care about nuclear weapons and missiles and they are asking why so much is being spent on them when they are hungry.”

This news story seems too good to be true. Perhaps it is. It is difficult to get reliable news from the Hermit Kingdom. Express seems to have a right wing bias. Little in this news story is attributed to anyone with a name.

Nevertheless, the news story is plausible. A dictator cannot govern entirely by fear. People need to enforce the orders of the dictator. If they do not feel loyalty to the dictator they will only do that as long as they think other enforcers do not feel the way they do. When the enforcers look at each other and think, "They hate him as much as I do," the dictator's days are numbered.

The two most famous totalitarian dictatorships in the twentieth century were the Soviet Union under Joseph Stalin and Nazi Germany under Adolf Hitler. Right before the beginning of World War II most Russians were better off economically than they had been under the Czars. Most Germans were better off economically than they had been under the Wiemar Republic during the 1920's. This, rather than propaganda, is the ultimate reason for the loyalty Stalin and Hitler enjoyed.

The Kim dynasty has done nothing to better the lot of the people of North Korea. Kim Il Sung provoked a war with South Korea that resulted in the devastation of North Korea. Kim's son and grandson have lived like multi millionaires in a country where starvation is a leading cause of death, and most North Koreans suffer malnutrition.

The average height in North Korea is about two inches shorter than it is in South Korea. That is evidence of malnutrition and disease when growing up. Visitors to North Korea notice how thin most people are. Nevertheless, the North Koreans can see how fat Kim Jong Un is.

It is a capital offense in North Korea to listen to South Korean radio stations and to watch South Korean television programs. Use of the internet in North Korea is sharply restricted. Nevertheless, it is difficult for me to believe that most North Koreans are not aware of how much better life is in South Korea. That demonstrates to them what they are capable of under a decent government.

We can always hope. For North Korea relief is one bullet away.

In North Korea no one is safe. Kim Jong Un has ordered the deaths of high ranking officials. A high ranking official with access to Kim Jong Un who fears that he is next on the hit list may take advantage of that access.

I hope he aims well. There is an old saying, "When you hit a king you better kill him."

After the invasion of Normandy was sucessful there was a failed assassination attempt on the life of Adolf Hitler. About 5,000 people were executed.

If the assassination attempt had succeeded there may have been a military coup against the Nazi government. Gen. Erwin Rommel, Herman Goering and many other ranking members of the Nazi government knew that the war had been lost after Normandy.

Who is going to overthrow Kim DL??? Kim surrounds himself with only the most loyal military personal. He treats them and their families very well.

He has also shown them what happens when he doubts their loyalty. Fat Kim will fly before a North Korean civil war takes him out...

Jang Song-thaek (Korean: [tɕaŋ sʰʌŋtʰɛk]; also romanized as Jang Sung-taek, Chang Sŏng-t'aek and other variations; January or February 1946[2] – 12 December 2013) was a leading figure in the government of North Korea. He was married to Kim Kyong-hui, the only daughter of former North Korean supreme leader Kim Il-sung, the only sister of former North Korean supreme leader Kim Jong-il and the aunt of Kim Jong-un, the supreme leader of North Korea.[3][4]...

In December 2013, Jang was abruptly accused of being a counter-revolutionary and was stripped of all his posts and expelled from the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK). His photos were removed from official media and his image digitally removed from photos with other North Korean leaders.[9] On 13 December, North Korea state media announced he had been executed.[10] There have been external reports that many members of his family have also been killed.[11][12]

Those at the top of the North Korean dictatorship know that no one is safe. Kim Jong Un can turn on anyone at any time.

I would rather Rocket Man flee than successfully crush a rebellion or launch some of his nukes. Nevertheless, I doubt many countries would give him sanctuary.

Iran might. Nevertheless, it is a long flight from North Korea to Iran. The U.S. Air Force would have plenty of opportunities to shoot down the criminal's escape vehicle.

Be nice if it were true.
    Who knows.
One thing is sure , sooner or latter the people will be pushed to far ,
and some will start to revolt.
When that finally reaches a trigger point , it will be to late , it will become a tidal wave of revolt with frightening exponential growth ,
and no amount of state murder will overcome it.

In this day of miniaturisation and innovation , it is not possible to suppress information for ever.
The masses will eventually be more informed.

In the end , if your all dying of starvation anyway , you might as well die fighting.

The only question is , how long until it reaches the crucial flashpoint.

    Has that sequence started ?
We won't know until there's mass mahem.

If they are caught they will probably be executed. Nevertheless, the fact that some North Koreans have the courage to do this tells other North Koreans that they are not alone. It tells them that many others hate Fat Kim and his dictatorship.

If the killing of people does not change the opinion of the people the next step will be to get rid of millions of people.
Send them to another country. What country do you think will be asked to take in all of the people?

    Here's the thing.
It is certain that North Koreans know their situation isn't comparable to South Korea, or for that matter, much of the world.
It's hard not to know that when one is starving and one can see that one's neighbors and family are also starving.

But the North Korean populace has been brainwashed for several generations to believe that Kim is their savior, their "God on earth". They have also been brainwashed to believe that the West, and America in particular, are the evil demons who are starving them.

A similar situation existed with prewar Japan; the Japanese had been told for generations that Hirohito was a "God on Earth" and he transformed the country into a mob of ruthless killers. Even after Japan was defeated he was still their God.

It would be nice if North Korea rose up and deposed Kim, but it is unlikely.

I can't count all of the people in the US that thought they were ''God on earth'' but the result , thank ''God'' always had the same outcome for them and it was never a favorable one for any of them. I think.

There are a few - a Very few - who lived to a ripe old age and died of natural causes. As to the rest, well, monumental tombs are where dead folks are kept. Not living gods.

The Romanians overthrew Nicolae Ceaușescu. Fat Kim may end the way he did, in front of a firing squad. As soon as Gorbachev indicated that the Soviet Army would not shoot at demonstrators in Eastern Europe, the Communist dictators there were through.

It really is hard to guess what most North Koreans think of Fat Kim, though. They may be encouraged by vandalism of statues of the two previous Kim's. That vandalism may anger them.

    It is possible.
    unlikely, but possible.

It is far more likely that IF a North Korean ends Kim's rule, it will be a disgruntled military leader, a servant, or a body guard with close access to Kim. And, it is a certainty they won't be hailed as a hero by the masses. The execution would be widely publicized, and brutal.

If Kim is deposed in some way, his successor will determine how it goes in North Korea; if he continues to rule as Kim did, not much will change. If he makes the "mistake" of opening the borders or giving access to the outside North Korea will change literally overnight, and Shooter thinks, for the better.
