Police in Austin have released surveillance video showing a car plunging seven stories from a downtown parking garage and striking another vehicle as it lands in an alley.

The video released Thursday shows the car landing atop an SUV then rolling upside down onto the ground. Moments later, people run to help the driver escape.

Police say the July accident happened when the woman drove through retention wires on the seventh floor, hit a building across the street and plunged to the alley below.

The SUV's driver wasn't hurt. Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services officials said at the time that the woman was treated at a hospital.

Jorts wearing bandit wanted for Walgreens robberies in St. Louis County

St. Louis County Police are looking for a man who they say has sticky fingers and no style. They call him the "Jorts bandit."

Officers tweeted this picture of him last week saying he wears jorts and robs Walgreens. "Contact us or the fashion police if you can identify."

The suspect was spotted again Monday hitting another Walgreens. This time they say, "his disregard for the law is as offensive as his disregard for fashion trends."

Speaking of police and fashion, but not necessarily the fashion police, the Rhode Island State Police have been named "Best Dressed State Police" several times.

 

I was just out in the yard splitting firewood and got to thinking about some of you boys. Because other than out shooting you I also bet I can swing an ax or a sledge hammer harder than any of you. Just hit that wedge so fucking hard with one blow it splits the log and the wedge sticks in the chopping block. God it feels good to hit something so dead solid perfect and feel that power.

And I am sure some would ask; "Well if you are disabled how can you do that?" And the answer is simple. One when I have that handle in my hands my right arm can lift it and the left one goes along for the ride. And then once its above my head I can put my whole body into the downward swing. And then years ago I had a true professional teach me how to swing a sledge hammer like a precision tool. Because that's what it is. And if you do it right you fit every once of the power into one square inch. And then of course good ol' grandma who had me out there chopping and splitting wood when I was 10 years old and we had two fireplaces to feed.

And while I can't do it all day everyday. I can still do it today and it feels like the next best thing to fucking.

Alberta woman finds mother-in-law's lost ring

A Canadian woman who lost her engagement ring 13 years ago while weeding her garden on the family farm is wearing it proudly again after her daughter-in-law pulled it from the ground on a misshapen carrot.

Mary Grams, 84, said she can't believe the lucky carrot actually grew through and around the diamond ring she had long given up hope of finding.

Grams said she never told her husband, Norman, that she lost the ring, but told her son. Her husband died five years ago.

"I feel relieved and happy inside," Grams said this week. "It grew into the carrot. I still can't figure it out."

Her daughter-in-law, Colleen Daley, found the ring while harvesting carrots for supper with her dog Billy at the farm near Armena, Alberta, where Grams used to live. The farm has been in the family for 105 years.

Daley said while she was pulling the carrots and noticed one of them looked strange. She almost fed it to her dog but decided to keep it and just threw it in her pail. When she was washing the carrots she noticed the ring and spoke to her husband, Grams' son, about what she had found.

They quickly called Grams. "I said we found your ring in the garden. She couldn't believe it," Daley said. "It was so weird that the carrot grew perfectly through that ring."

Grams said she was eager to try the ring on again after so many years. With family looking on she washed the ring with a little soap to get the dirt off. It slid on her finger as easily as it did when her husband gave it to her.

"We were giggling and laughing," she said. "It fit. After that many years it fits."

Shock lobster: ghostly, translucent crustacean caught off Maine coast

In a lobster-fishing career spanning more than 40 years, Maine resident Alex Todd thought he had seen it all. Then, last month, he hauled in a white, almost translucent crustacean which he called “by far the weirdest one I’ve caught”.

Todd was fishing off the north-east of Chebeague Island, about a five-mile haul from Portland, when he dragged in the lobster.

“I was definitely surprised,” he said, adding that he has caught lobsters that are “half red, half blue” before. This one was unique.

“It was like it was clear but with white under the clearness and a blue tint,” he said. “But you couldn’t see organs or anything under the shell, it wasn’t to that level.”

Todd had to release the lobster as it had a notched tail, indicating it was a female potentially carrying eggs. Days later, it was caught again.

“My uncle caught it,” Todd said. “We released it and last week he caught it again and re-released it so it’s still hanging around.”

Todd said he had since heard of another person who had caught the white lobster.

The Maine Coast Fishermen’s Association offered an explanation for the condition of the shellfish.

“This lobster probably has a genetic condition called Leucism which isn’t a total loss of pigment (which would make it an albino) but instead a partial loss,” it said in a Facebook statement. “This is why you can still see some hints of blue on the shell and colour on the eyes.”

Todd said the story of the lobster had echoes of a situation from a decade ago.

“One time there was a blue one around here,” he said. “It was a blue notched female and people kept catching it for a month or so.”

Around 10 people caught the blue lobster before it vanished, he said.
